Exclusive: Over the last year, director and VFX artist Kane Parsons has shot his YouTube following into the stratosphere with the viral success of his mysterious short, “The Backrooms (Found Footage).” It’s the first in a series of found-footage horror videos which have thus far garnered nearly 100 million views and will now be adapted for the big screen by A24, Atomic Monster, Chernin Entertainment and 21 Laps.
Parsons — who’s just 17 years old — will direct from a script by Roberto Patino (Dmz). He’ll just have to wait till his summer vacation.
Details as to the plot of the sci-fi horror feature are under wraps. But in the ’90s-set original short (which you can view below), a young filmmaker’s fall into another dimension leaves him wandering through an unsettlingly yellow, empty and labyrinthine office space, which may or may not be home to otherworldly beings. The film’s title...

In an "elseworld" version of Gotham City, the Joker is dead and maybe Batman had something to do with it... if only he could remember. Batman and John Constantine team up for Batman: Damned #1. Also in today's Comics Corner: Terminator: Sector War #2, Black Hammer: The Age of Doom #5, Curse Words #16, and Seven to Eternity #11.
Batman: Damned #1: "DC Black Label, the highly anticipated new imprint from DC Comics, starts here!
The Joker is dead.
There is no doubt about that. But whether Batman finally snapped his scrawny neck or some other sinister force in Gotham City did the deed is still a mystery.
Problem is, Batman can’t remember…and the more he digs into this labyrinthian case, the more his mind starts to doubt everything he’s uncovering.
So who better to set him straight than…John Constantine? Problem with that is as much as John loves a good mystery,...

Although Brian Wood and Simon Furman are still listed as co-plotters, each issue that comes seems to have Furman’s fingerprints on it more and more. For me, Brian Wood writes a purer story, focusing on the bigger picture, whereas Simon Furman has more of a traditional approach, with a mix of big plots and some soap opera. The first four issues, all Brian Wood, have certainly had a different feel than the following four issues. Not necessarily better or worse, but noticeably different. Although having said that, ‘Macross Has Talent’? Not.a.fan.
Last issue had a whole lot going on, but the main brushstrokes were focused on the Zentraedi assault, and the development of the relationship between Rick and Minmei. The Zentraedi assault saw Khyron, the erratic but powerful Commander launch an assault on the Sdf-1, which nearly succeeded,...

Rebels #5
Written by Brian Wood
Art by Andrea Mutti
Colors by Jordie Bellaire
Published by Dark Horse Comics
Most of Rebels #5 deals with how Seth’s determination is what gets him to accomplish his mission, however lofty it is. Tasked with taking extremely heavy and bulky cannon down to Boston from New York, Seth is dead set it’ll take longer than two weeks. The mission seems to set Seth up for failure, for some unexplained reason, but Seth accomplishes this duty. The issue juxtaposes the cannon transportation mission with Seth’s journey to save his father’s life as a boy. Brian Wood does a good job of showing how Seth was taught to finish his undertakings no matter how long they take. While dragging his father’s body across a frozen land, Seth uses his grit and determination, instilled by his father, to drag him all the way home.
