The CW released the first look at Azie Tesfai’s Guardian, who will appear in the sixth and final season of “Supergirl.”
Kelly Olsen (Tesfai) will take on the mantle of Guardian in the second half of the final season. The series previously hinted that Kelly will take up the mantle left by her brother, James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), which will come to fruition in the upcoming episode “Blind Spots.” Co-written by Tesfai and co-producer J. Holtham, the episode is said to address racial inequality. “Arrow” star David Ramsey will direct the episode and reprise his role of John Diggle.
“Supergirl” follows the DC character Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), who balances her work as a reporter for CatCo Worldwide Media with keeping National City safe from sinister threats as the titular superhero. The series also stars Tesfai, David Harewood, Jesse Rath, Nicole Maines and Katie McGrath. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter,...

Exclusive: Azie Tesfai, who stars as Kelly Olsen on the CW’s Supergirl, is doing double duty this season. She co-wrote, with supervising producer J. Holtham, episode 12 for the show’s upcoming sixth and final season.
Many actors have directed episodes on the series before, but this is the first time an actor has penned an episode for one of Greg Berlanti’s shows. David Ramsey (Arrow) is set to direct.
“I am so grateful to write for Supergirl‘s final season. It’s been such an honor to play Kelly Olsen, a Bipoc and queer character in the DC universe,” Tesfai said. “Working in our amazing writers room and co-writing an episode has been an immensely educational and empowering experience. Writing is such a passion for me and I’m excited to continue on this creative journey.”

All good things must come to an end, and that includes Supergirl. The WB TV show, which began life on CBS before moving to The CW in its second season, will be ending with the upcoming sixth season. The CW and producers Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti Productions made the announcement today ahead of the production start date for Season 6. According to Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva, “between the delays and Supergirl’s downward ratings trajectory, I hear the producers, the studio, the network and Benoist came to a decision that it was better to end the show with a longer final season.”
“To say it has been an honor portraying this iconic character would be a massive understatement,” said series star Melissa Benoist in a statement on Instagram. “Seeing the incredible impact the show has had on young girls around the world has always left me humbled and speechless. She...

“Supergirl” is officially hanging up her cape.
In a joint decision, the CW and producers Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions have announced that the upcoming sixth season of “Supergirl” will be its last.
Production on the “Supergirl” curtain call is set to begin later this month, and the writers have already started developing storylines for the final 20 episodes, according to sources. The network is aiming to premiere the sixth and final season sometime in 2021.
News of “Supergirl”‘s demise also comes almost exactly four months after the season 5 finale. The series originally debuted on CBS back in Oct. 2015, before moving to CW from season 2 onward.
The most recent season continued to star Melissa Benoist as the titular heroine, who also happens to be Superman’s cousin. She addressed the show’s end via social media.

“Supergirl” will conclude with its upcoming sixth season, The CW announced Tuesday.
The broadcast network says that the creative team behind the Melissa Benoist-led superhero series — which will be the first “Arrowverse” series to come to an end since “Arrow” itself did last spring — “has started developing the storylines for the final 20 episodes” and Season 6 will begin production later this month.
“Supergirl” premiered in October 2015 on CBS before moving over to The CW for its second season the following fall. The CW plans to premiere the sixth and final season, which was pushed from the fall schedule due to Covid-related production delays, sometime in 2021.
Along with Benoist, Season 5 of “Supergirl” starred Chyler Leigh, Katie McGrath, Jesse Rath, Nicole Maines, Azie Tesfai, Andrea Brooks, Julie Gonzalo, Staz Nair and David Harewood, with guest star Jon Cryer.
Here’s the description for that batch of episodes, which ended in May:

Supergirl will be taking her last flight. The CW and producers Warner Bros TV and Berlanti Productions just announced that the drama series starring Melissa Benoist will conclude with the upcoming sixth season, set for premiere on the CW in 2021. It is the second series from the CW’s DC Arrowverse to come to an end following Arrow, which wrapped its eight-year run last season.
Production on all 2020-21 broadcast series was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic. Additionally, Supergirl had been targeting a later start of production to accommodate the pregnancy of star Benoist. I hear the series is slated to begin filming in Vancouver next week, pending a deal with the local unions to comply with SAG’s testing guidelines, which has been a sticking point for a number of Hollywood productions there. The series would initially be filming around Benoist who would join the production later, I have heard.

Supergirl returns this weekend but, for one week only, the title will refer to Alex Danvers rather than Kara. Called “Alex in Wonderland,” the sixteenth episode of the Girl of Steel’s fifth season will continue Alex’s adventures through Obsidian’s virtual reality world, following on from last week’s “Reality Bytes.” In that episode, we saw Alex eyeing up her own super-suit for a moment. Next time around, she’ll put it on and take to the skies as she gets a taste of her sister’s life.
Chyler Leigh has been teasing this development for a while, posting a behind-the-scenes snap of herself in the super-suit on social media. These new promo images give us a much better look at the costume, though. As you can see in the gallery below, Alex’s Supergirl suit resembles Kara’s, but with the red and blue swapped for black and turquoise.

Spoiler Alert: This article contains key details about tonight’s Season 4 finale of Supergirl on The CW.
The Season 4 finale of Supergirl packed quite a punch tonight as Melissa Benoist’s Girl of Steel finally squared off against Lex Luthor, the malevolent mastermind of Metropolis as played here by returning guest star Jon Cryer with condescending sneer and big-brain brio. The returning guest star had hinted in recent days that the finale would not only reveal the staggering breadth of Luthor’s evil plans but also illuminate the true depths of his hatred for Superman, Supergirl and all things Kryptonian. The episode, “The Quest for Peace,” (directed by Jesse Warn off a script by Rob Wright & Derek Simon) certainly delivered on that front. “He’s evil, I knew that, you knew that, but I was surprised at how far he takes it with his plans.”

Even though Supergirl has rightfully placed much of the focus on the titular character herself, I can’t help admitting that it’s gifted us with what have arguably been some of the best interpretations of Superman and Lex Luthor in live action. In my view, Tyler Hoechlin’s Man of Steel radiates the good-heartedness and wisdom the icon is known for, while Jon Cryer is downright diabolical and perfect as his archenemy. I’d go as far to say that Cryer is the second best Lex ever, right behind Smallville‘s Michael Rosenbaum.
Of course, we’ve learned of the storied history shared between the Arrowverse’s Superman and Lex Luthor, but we’ve never actually seen them in the same room. While speaking at Fan Expo Dallas though, Tyler Hoechlin stated that he’d very much like to remedy that situation if given the opportunity:

Having been caught up in the developing situation involving Agent Liberty and the emergence of Nia Nal as Dreamer, it became almost easy to overlook how the producers of Supergirl had been building toward the unification of the Elite. In fact, we’ll see them come together on March 3rd during the aptly titled “What’s So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way?,” an obvious nod to Action Comics #775.
As it turns out, the Elite will stick around a little longer than I initially expected, as they’ll continue being a collective nuisance in “Stand and Deliver.” And no, it’s not a re-imagining of the inspirational film starring Edward James Olmos. Instead, it’ll go down like this:
Supergirl Takes A Stand — Between Ben Lockwood’s (Sam Witwer) new push to stir up the anti-alien movement and the Elite’s desire to target Lockwood and his minions,...

If you’ve been on the Supergirl bandwagon for some time, then you no doubt remember how its first season showed Superman only in silhouette, or gave glimpses of his boots while the rest of his figure lied off camera. Fortunately, Tyler Hoechlin suited up as the Last Son of Krypton at the top of the show’s sophomore year, thus forcing us all to stop rolling our eyes whenever the character made a “cameo.”
On the downside, that iteration of Big Blue hasn’t been seen since season 2’s finale, but our attention was grabbed when word got out that an upcoming episode for this fall had been titled “Man of Steel,” as everyone naturally assumed that’d serve as his return.
Well, in reality, that title’s been bestowed in an ironic sense, for the newest big bad, Agent Liberty, will be the focus of said installment instead.

Well. Um. So, that happened. I'm really of mixed feelings about The Librarians Season 3 Episode 9, to the point where I can't decide – even sitting here writing this review – whether this episode was good or completely ludicrous.
The series itself definitely requires a certain level of whimsy in its viewers, but "And the Fatal Separation" definitely took suspension of disbelief to levels of parody.
The Monkey King of Shangri-La came out of nowhere as apparently the guy who's been teaching Jake next-level fighting skills (probably to make better use of Christian Kane's training).
The way Jake and the Monkey King spouted apparently-profound wisdom at each other in humorous fashion indicated that the writers were almost certainly aware of the exploitation of martial arts movie cliches.
A man who eats crackers in bed wakes up feeling crumby.

Ash vs Evil Dead, Season 1, Episode 9, “Bound In Flesh”
Written by Rob Wright
Directed by Tony Tilse
Airs Saturdays at 9pm (Et) on Starz
There’s no time for grief or reflection on the latest episode of Ash vs Evil Dead, “Bound In Flesh.” Last week featured a somewhat shocking moment when Jill Marie Jones’ series regular Amanda Fisher found herself on the wrong end of some deer antlers. Amanda’s death was framed in a particularly brutal, mournful way, which makes the fast-paced, goofball tone of this week’s episode all the more jarring.
Ash (Bruce Campbell) has no time to grieve Amanda, nor does he even have time to deal with his newly born evil doppelgänger, because before the opening title card has splashed across the screen, Bad Ash is dead, blown away by Kelly and Pablo after an amusing back-and-forth to determine who is the real Ash.

Netflix is “open” to investing in original European series and feature films, according to Christopher Libertelli, vp of global public policy at the Us VoD provider.
Speaking at a hearing organised this week by the European Commission on the promotion of European films and TV series online, Libertelli said that Netflix’s chief Ted Sarandos “is open to that, but hasn’t announced any specific plan.”
In reply to a question from André Lange of the European Audiovisual Observatory about whether Netflix would exclusively invest in series or also move into feature films, Libertelli replied: “If Ted Sarandos was here, he would say ‘everything is possible’ and there is no limitation on just doing serialised content.

Two of the students (Roy and Bernardo), bring the laptops home to show their parents. What are their concerns? Do the students need to see the rest of the world via internet, and learn about other nations and cultures, or do they need to learn how to build roads and continue to work on developing the land around them within their own communities? What are the pro’s and con’s when the most remote, isolated areas of the world become interconnected?

Grimm, Season 3, Episode 3, “A Dish Best Served Cold”
Written by Rob Wright
Directed by Karen Gaviola
Airs Fridays at 9pm Est on NBC
This week, on Grimm: Monroe and Rosalee dine out, Nick struggles with his memories, and Adalind mourns Eric
After its two-part premiere, Grimm is back to its usual procedural format this week, as Nick and co. investigate the mysterious deaths of several Portland residents. The series already did its take on the Three Little Pigs, with season one’s “The Three Bad Wolves”, but it seemed likely this Blutbad-Bauerschwein conflict could pop up again. Thankfully writer Rob Wright takes an entertaining approach to the familiar tale of unending blood feuds, and comes up with a decidedly gruesome method of poisoning to spice up the sauce.
Centering an episode on Monroe’s foodie ways is a nice move (man did that food look good!) and a clever...

Grimm Episode 103
“A Dish Best Served Cold”
Written By: Rob Wright
Directed By: Karen Gaviola
Original Airdate: 8 November 2013
In This Episode...
Hank and Nick are called in on an icky case: a guy named Ned Klosterman is found dead, in a tree. His stomach exploded and rained down, leaving a cartoonish hole through his torso. The next day, a second victim turns up. Exact same M.O., but this was a woman, with no known connection between the two victims. The only thing they can find is that both victims ate at a restaurant called the Raven and the Rose in the last couple of nights. Nick tells Juliette about the case, and it sounds to her like bloat, the gastrointestinal illness in which the intestines get tangled around the digestive track, most often seen in fish or dogs.

“The Mob Doctor” diagnosis: Cheesy, pulpy drama From its opening — where a mob goon with a screwdriver impaled in his head needs an emergency removal — to its over-the-top acting of the pilot episode’s “guest star” Michael Rappaport, and everything in between, Fox’s new series The Mob Doctor, which premieres Sept. 17 at 9pm Et/Pt and airs Mondays, is an odd pastiche of mob movie-meets medical drama-meets thriller, with some offbeat humor thrown in. “It’s going to be fun to see how far we can push her,” says co-creator and co-executive producer Rob Wright. Wright is referring to the series’ [...]...

Exclusive: Josh Berman has signed a new two-year overall deal with Sony Pictures Television. This is Berman’s third consecutive overall pact at Sony. The first two yielded two series, Lifetime’s Drop Dead Diva, which Berman created and executive produces/showruns, and Fox’s upcoming drama The Mob Doctor, which he co-created with Rob Wright and also exec produces/runs. Berman just sold a new project to CBS, a single-camera comedy written by The Big C creator Darlene Hunt, based on an Atlantic Monthly’s cover story by Kate Bolick All The Single Ladies. Berman started his career as a junior writer on the first season of CBS’ CSI. He remained on the long-running procedural for six years, rising to executive producer. He went on to create the Fox drama Vanished and spent four years on the network’s veteran procedural Bones, which will now serve as a lead-in for Mob Doctor.

Male antiheroes have been all over television in the past decade, but there haven't been a lot of women filling that kind of role. "The Mob Doctor" hopes to turn that tide a little.
The creators of the new Fox show, which stars Jordana Spiro ("My Boys") as a Chicago surgeon who's in debt to a gangster, say they want to push the lead character through "shades of gray," morally speaking, in the show's first season.
"We're excited to see the character grow and watch what we assume her morality to be change over the course of the season," co-creator Josh Berman said Monday (July 23) at the TV Critics Association summer press tour. "... The show doesn't have to be black and white."
The idea of a character caught between the physician's oath to "do no harm" and the idea of "no honor among thieves" sparked lots of ideas about where the show and Spiro's character,...

Diane Haithman contributes to Deadline’s TV coverage. At today’s TCA panel on Fox’s new drama series The Mob Doctor, show co-creators/executive producers Josh Berman and Rob Wright said they were looking to create in their lead character Dr. Grace Devlin a female lead akin to Breaking Bad’s Walter White, played by multiple Emmy winner Bryan Cranston. That is, someone seduced into a moral gray area. The inspiration for her character is Rob Feiber’s book Il Dottore, based on a real-life physician who came to treat such mob leaders as John Gotti and Carlos Gambino, they said. Although they had the idea for a mob doctor before becoming aware of the book, “it helped convince us that this could actually happen”, Wright said. In the series, shot on location in Chicago, Grace Devlin (Jordana Spiro) plays a doctor torn between the physician’s Hippocratic Oath...

Exclusive: Veteran Bones writer-producer Carla Kettner has signed an overall deal with Sony Pictures TV. Under the two-year pact, she will join the studio’s new Fox drama series The Mob Doctor as an executive producer and will develop new projects. On Mob Doctor, a fast-paced medical drama starring Jordana Spiro as a brilliant young female cardiothoracic surgeon juggling her promising medical career with her lifelong debt as a doctor to Chicago’s Southside mob, Kettner will serve as an executive producer alongside creators Josh Berman and Rob Wright and director Michael Dinner. Wme-repped Kettner spent the last five years on the Fox dramedy Bones, rising to an executive producer this past season. Mob Doctor reunites her with Berman. Kettner served as co-executive producer/exec producer on Berman’s two previous series for Fox, Killer Instinct and Vanished, and the two also worked together on Bones. It’s that time of year, and the networks are revealing their schedules for fall. Fox is always an interesting network when it comes to the upfront season, because they usually don’t have a lot of changes, but they often have fascinating (if doomed) series on the horizon.
The full schedule is below, as are breakdowns of the specific shows, along with trailers, and I want to make sure to point out that they are likely to expire very soon, so you want to catch them while you can.
The really big news for fall is that Glee is moving. The not so big news is that mid-week primetime is still going to be taken over by reality shows. Good news, though not quite news at this point, is that fans of Bones and Fringe are going to get more of their favorite shows, despite the fact that both...

The Mindy Project
According to the Official Fox Description: Created by Emmy-nominated writer/producer and New York Times best-selling author Mindy Kaling (The Office) and starring Kaling, Chris Messina (Damages), Anna Camp (The Good Wife) and newcomer Ed Weeks, The Mindy Project features Kaling as a skilled Ob/Gyn navigating the tricky waters of both her personal and professional life, as she pursues her dreams of becoming the perfect woman, finding the perfect man and getting her perfect romantic comedy ending.
Why We’re Excited: Having already devoured her Tina Fey-esque book (“Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?”), not to mention relished every moment Kelly Kapoor’s talking head popped up in The Office, we’re quite confident that Mindy Kaling’s unique voice will translate quite well to her very own self-titled project.

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the second announced today. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on Fox.
Former stalwart "House" is done, last year's two new high-concept dramas "Terra Nova” and “Alcatraz" fizzled, and ratings juggernaut "American Idol" saw quite a precipitous drop-off this past season. Yet the Murdoch network remains robust with last year's successful launch of "New Girl" and "The X Factor" helping cover up the deficiencies. The new schedule boasts two important elements - another attempt to launch a four show comedy block on Tuesdays despite failed attempts in the past, and the move of "Glee" to the prestigious (but competitive) Thursday 9pm slot.
Several other pilots didn't make the final cut and won't be seen including the spy-as-a-photojournalist thriller "The Asset", the Cuba Gooding Jr.-led legal drama...

Fox has added two new dramas to the three comedies it has picked up for the 2012-13 season.
The dramas are "The Following," a thriller from "The Vampire Diaries" executive producer Kevin Williamson that stars Kevin Bacon, and "The Mob Doctor," about a young physician (Jordana Spiro of "My Boys") who owes a big debt to gangsters in Chicago.
The two shows join a trio of comedies -- "The Goodwin Games," "Ben & Kate" (formerly "Ned Fox Is My Manny") and a show from "The Office" writer-producer-actress Mindy Kaling -- in Fox's lineup for next season.
"The Following" stars Bacon as a retired FBI profiler who's called back into the field to track the devotees of a serial killer (James Purefoy). Shawn Ashmore ("X-Men") and Natalie Zea ("Justified") also star.

Every year, the five major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, The CW, Fox and NBC) order pilots to be considered for the fall season. A pilot, as you may know, is the first episode of a TV series and the final step in a long development process from idea to screen.
From the 87 drama and comedy pilots ordered this year, a new crop of television shows will be selected -- and I read the scripts for each and every one of them. Over the course of this week, I'm walking you through the network's pilot slates, offering a bit of analysis on their present schedules and providing you with a rundown of the drama contenders. (Plus, a little bit of info about the comedies, too.) Of course, not all of these shows will find their way to your TV set -- in fact, most of them you may never hear of again.

Mindy Kaling is moving to another office. Fox has given the green light to two medical pilots, a comedy from Office co-executive producer/co-star Kaling and a drama from the Drop Dead Diva duo of creator Josh Berman and producer Rob Wright. Additionally, the network has picked up to pilot the half-hour El Jefe from comedy veterans Moses Port and David Guarascio (Aliens In America). Kaling wrote the single-camera comedy, in which she stars as a young Bridget Jones-type Ob/Gyn doctor balancing personal and professional life, surrounded by quirky co-workers in a small office. The project, which she executive produces with Howard Klein, has a personal element — Kaling herself is the daughter of an ob/gyn mother and an architect father. If the project goes to series, Kaling won’t be able to return to The Office next season. Like most core cast members, her contract is up...
