The BBC has unveiled an action plan to help “reduce the number of women in severe financial hardship who are prosecuted for licence fee evasion.”
The corporation has been under pressure to help women struggling to pay the £159 ($200) annual fee after a report found 75% of those prosecuted for evasion are female. The BBC has always stressed that prosecution is a last resort and said around 0.2% of the nation’s 25 million license fee holders were prosecuted last year.
A study from an independent adviser, Lola Young, unveiled today, said the BBC will bring in a two-month breathing space rule on enforcement action for anyone in financial difficulty as long as they agree to free, independent debt advice.
The BBC will also extend the simple payment plan that helps spread the cost of the license fee in small instalments over 12 months to unlicensed households, the action plan said, along with working with debt advice charity StepChange.

It’s 2021. The world is gradually emerging from lockdown, blinking in the balmy sunshine as normal life – its pubs, parks, pubs in the park – begin to bubble with life again. One song is inescapable: an intimate electronic track from a little indie outfit from Oxford. “Heat Waves” by Glass Animals is the indisputable soundtrack of the summer, having come seemingly out of nowhere. Or did it?
When a song goes viral on TikTok, it feels organic. The spread of a danceable pop track, memeable sound bite, or classic Eighties love ballad seemingly happens overnight and at random selection. Suddenly, 14-year-olds are choreographing dances and vloggers are outfit-of-the-daying to it. And just like that, a trending track is born. But even a trend can be manufactured for the right price. Increasingly, TikTok influencers are being paid by PR agencies and music labels to post videos using a particular song in the...

The 2022 Brit Awards was a night filled with good music and fun moments at the O2 Arena in London, hosted by Mo Gilligan - with the help of Maya Jama - and held in front of an audience of nominees, presenters, and key workers.
It's be the second time the BRITs has taken place in real life since the pandemic, and we weren't disappointed with the great lineup of performances, including best new artist winner Little Simz, BRITs rising star Holly Humberstone, and best rock/alternative act Sam Fender - to name a few. The roster of live presenters was pretty great, too. Idris Elba, Celeste, Tom Daley, Mo Farrah, and Clara Amfo were among the many.
Keep on reading to find out all the winners at the 2022 BRITs.

Adele led the winners at tonight’s (Feb. 8) Brit Awards 2022, taking home three awards at the prestigious ceremony. The music icon triumphed as she picked up Artist of the Year, Album of the Year for 30 and Song of the Year for “Easy On Me.”
Her victory in the first category made her the first-ever artist to pick up the award, after the show ditched trophies in gendered categories for the first time — replaced by Artist of the Year and International Artist of the Year fields.

Alice leads the end-of-an-era productions, judging the Art Fund Museums prize, and the Forest Fringe's search for a new home
End of an era for blockbuster stage spectacles
What an incredible fortnight it has been for socking great stage premieres in London: first Mark-Anthony Turnage's Anna Nicole at the Royal Opera, then Danny Boyle's production of Frankenstein at the National Theatre, and finally, on Monday, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland at the Royal Ballet, choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon. I couldn't help feeling that each of these lavish productions felt slightly fin-de-siècle – the last of the really luxurious premieres before funding cuts hit? It seemed to me that, of all these pieces, it is Alice that will have the greatest staying power. I can easily see it in the Royal's repertory in 30 years' time. It is by no means a perfect piece: it is a bit too choppily action-packed and abrupt,...
