Disney has formalized the promotion of ABC Signature EVP Production and Post-Production Carol Turner, officially naming her head of Production for Disney Entertainment Television.
Turner assumed the role last spring as part of the consolidation of production operations across Disney TV Studios, Hulu, Freeform and FX under her in the wave of layoffs at the company, with then-20th Television EVP Production Nissa Diederich and FX EVP of Production Nick Lombardo reporting to her.
That role has since been further expanded and formalized, with Turner now overseeing physical production and backlot functions for both the studios and platforms including 20th Television, ABC Signature, ABC Entertainment, FX Productions, Disney+, Hulu, Freeform and Onyx Collective, with a purview of over 100 current series and pilots.

Hulu has released a first look photo featuring the cast of “How I Met Your Father” that also showcases Industrial Light and Magic’s new virtual production stage, the Infinity, on Disney’s Burbank lot.

The Television Academy’s board of governors has voted vice chairman Frank Scherma to become its new chairman and CEO, a post he will take over from the outgoing Hayma Washington. The election was held Thursday night at a board meeting at which the TV Academy’s annual officer elections were also held.

In ABC Family’s renewal announcement today, there was one bubble series conspicuously missing — Jane By Design. The cable network will not order more episodes of the comedic drama, which is being cancelled after one season. All of the lies finally take a toll on one of the Liars with dangerous results in “Save The Date,” an all-new episode of ABC Family’s hit original series Pretty Little Liars, premiering Tuesday, August 2 (8:00 – 9:00 p.m. Et/Pt).
Emily has been juggling a lot of secrets and lies lately, and with a surprise visit from her father before a big swim meet, the pressure gets to be too much for her - sending her to the hospital. But with the prospect of having to come clean to her father about Danby, Emily realizes she has bigger problems when “A” reveals his/her part in Emily's swim career.
While visiting Emily, Spencer and Aria take the opportunity to try and do more digging around about the cause of Alison's death and how the broken field hockey stick may play a part in the last few moments of their friend's life.

ABC Family has given a back-season order of 22 episodes to the network’s one-hour original drama, Switched At Birth, giving the break-out series a full first season order, Michael Riley, President, ABC Family has announced. Switched At Birth, premiering Monday nights at 9:00 p.m. Et/Pt, will air its summer finale on Monday, August 8th.
The series, which premiered this June with a 10-episode episode order, is scheduled to return in early 2012.

ABC Family has ordered 22 more episodes of its new drama series Switched at Birth. The network calls the pickup "back-season", bringing the total first-season order to the show to 32 episodes. Switched at Birth, which debuted on June 10 with for an initial run of 10 episodes, will air its summer finale Aug. 8 and will return with originals in early 2012. Switched At Birth, a one-hour scripted drama, tells the story of two teenage girls who discover they were accidentally switched as newborns in the hospital. Bay Kennish grew up in a wealthy family with two parents and a brother, while Daphne Vasquez, who lost her hearing at an early age due to a case of meningitis, grew up with a single mother in a working-class neighborhood. Things come to a dramatic head when both families meet and struggle to learn how to live together for the sake of the girls.

ABC Family's hit new show Pretty Little Liars isn't even finished its first season, but the network has already announced that the show will return for its second season in June 2011 (the show will be moving to Tuesdays!). The June 4-6 event at 20th Century Fox Studios will offer more than 30 sessions designed to provide career tools, insights and networking opportunities for television, video and new-media producers.
Conference co-chairs Gale Anne Hurd and Rachel Klein said they drew on TV producers working on everything from scripted programming to reality shows to fashion the lineup. They note the event comes during an "innovative and exciting time for the television industry."

The list of featured speakers includes Darla Anderson and a producing team from Pixar, Mark Cuban, Tracey Edmonds, Gary Goetzman, Jeff Gomez, Mark Gordon, Brian Grazer, Charlie Haykel, Marshall Herskovitz, Grant Heslov, Charlotte Huggins, Gale Anne Hurd, the producing team from "The Simpsons," Mark Johnson, Hawk Koch, Gary Lucchesi, Don Mischer, David V. Picker, Charles Roven, Stephanie Sperber, Paula Wagner, Matthew Weiner, Richard Zanuck and John Ziffren.
"The Produced By Conference has quickly established itself as a preeminent industry event, as well as an important initiative for the guild, as it brings together our amazing producer community in one place, at one time, creating a host of learning opportunities for all of us," PGA president Marshall Herskovitz said.
