With the "Secret Life" finale upon us, we thought it'd be a good time to look back on the hit ABC Family show that gave us five seasons of awful lessons about sex, embarrassing dancing and severely distorted depictions of teen parenting.
From Grace (Megan Park) thinking that losing her virginity killed her father to a hooker (Jennifer Coolidge) hired by a teen with Down syndrome becoming the wife of the Sausage King, take a look at eight moments from the "Secret Life of the American Teenager" that still have us cringing and eye rolling.
The time Amy Juergens (Shailene Woodley) did the most idiotic, rhythmless dance of all time.
The time Ruthie (MacKenzie Rosman) and Lucy Camden (Beverley Mitchell) judged each other.
The time Bristol Palin guest starred and said, "And I'm Yo-Yo Ma."
The time uber-Christian Grace thought having sex with Jack (Greg Finley) killed her uber-Christian father,...

Now Shailene Woodley can pursue that film career fulltime: ABC Family has decided not to renew the five-year-old The Secret Life of an American Teenager for another season.
The drama from Brenda Hampton (7th Heaven) will air the first of its final 12 episodes beginning in March, according to Deadline.
Teenager not only served as a springboard for the Golden Globe-nominated Woodley — who starred in The Descendants opposite George Clooney — but served as a beacon of light for the Down Syndrome community because it cast Luke Zimmerman as Tom, the high-functioning son of Kathleen (Josie Bissett).

It’s not often that a recurring actor has generated enough buzz to warrant an Emmy nod — but Glee’s Lauren Potter may just be the exception.
The 22-year-old actress who plays Sue Sylvester’s sidekick Becky enjoyed not one but two big storylines this season. Her first breakout moment occurred in January’s episode titled “Yes/No,” in which Becky sets her sights on Artie (with heartbreaking results). And in the May episode of ”Prom-asaurus,” Puck crowns her queen of the “anti-prom.”
For Potter, however, the winter episode that included the voiceover talents of Helen Mirren as Becky’s...

The current issue of Entertainment Weekly has a nice feature on TV performers with Down syndrome. Actors profiled include Luke Zimmerman (The Secret Life of the American Teenager), Jamie Brewer (American Horror Story), and Lauren Potter (Glee).
Naturally enough, they had a brief profile on Chris Burke, the actor who played Corky on Life Goes On. The TV series was the first to have a main character with Down Syndrome and ran for four seasons and 83 episodes on ABC, from 1989 until 1993. Here are the highlights:
Though Burke is still recognized on the streets as Corky, he's most proud of his work as the goodwill ambassador for the National Down Syndrome Society. He's served since 1994.
He counts Zimmerman as a good friend and is very grateful for the new opportunities for the DS community. He said, "It's given...
