Marc Neikrug Classical maestro Marc Neikrug, a fourth-generation musician, was born in New York City to cellist parents. He is the only American composer to be commissioned by the Deutsche Oper Berlin (for Los Alamos), and his opera Through Roses is an acclaimed study of the Holocaust. Neikrug has had four major works performed by the New York Philharmonic, including his second symphony conducted by Alan Gilbert. His works have been performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, BBC Symphony, and Cleveland Orchestra. Collaborations include Zubin Mehta, Loren Maazel, Jaqueline Du Pre, Lynn Harrell, Susan Graham, David Zinman, and Pinchas Zukerman. Accolades include three Ascap awards and a Golden Bear. The Sanford And Dolores Ziff Classical Music Series will present four diverse works by the highly regarded Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Pinchas Zukerman, on December 16; a solo recital of audience favorites by four-time Emmy® Award and 15-time Grammy® Award-winning violinist Itzhak Perlman on January 12; the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of the internationally recognized American conductor Leonard Slatkin, on February 14; and outstanding pianist Lang Lang accompanied by the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival Orchestra, on March 29, conducted by Christoph Eschenbach. The four-part series will take place entirely in one of the most acoustically superb concert halls in the world - the Center's John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall.

Tony Bennett will celebrate his 80th birthday in style -- with a star-studded music special on NBC to be directed and executive produced by Chicago helmer Rob Marshall. Titled Tony Bennett: An American Classic, the special is based on Bennett's upcoming album featuring duets with some of the music business' biggest names. A number of them -- including Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Diana Krall, k.d. lang, Michael Buble, John Legend, Juanes, trumpeter Chris Botti and violinist Pinchas Zukerman -- will perform with Bennett on the show. Also set to appear on the hourlong program are Robert De Niro, Billy Crystal and Catherine Zeta-Jones, who was an Oscar winner for her role in Chicago.
