- Chip Ganassi started out as a race driver, but wasn't too successful as he failed to win a race. However, as an owner Ganassi has been dominant with four straight Champ Car titles, (as of summer 2001) 43 career Champ Car wins, and winning the 2000 Indianapolis 500. A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Ganassi was a promising driver before a serious crash ended his career. He then took up ownership in 1988 when he purchased a share of Patrick Racing. He struck out on his own with Target stores backing his team in 1990 and started winning four years later with Michael Andretti. Since then, his drivers Jimmy Vasser, Alex Zanardi and Juan Montoya have won Champ Car titles.- IMDb Mini Biography By: Ken Severson
