- James Yannatos studied composition with Nadia Boulanger, Luigi Dallapiccola, Philip Bezanson, Darius Milhaud, and Paul Hindemith in composition and conducting with William Steinberg and Leonard Bernstein. He holds degrees from Yale University (B.M., M.M.) and the University of Iowa (1974). He has been active as a violinist, composer, and conductor. Since 1964, he has been the music director of the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra at Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. His music has been performed around the world and he has written works in all forms: symphonies, concertos, oratorios, chamber works, a television cartoon opera, and an extensive set of songs for elementary school children.
