Opinion On An Upcoming Epic ‘Ramayan’ ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
There’s a lot of hullabaloo about Ramayana right now, with several interesting reports flowing in. As far as we know, Ranbir Kapoor is said to be locked to play lord Ram on the big screen, with Yash being Ravan. But we strongly feel the film could reach an entirely different level with Ram Charan and Jr Ntr’s reunion, along with Prasanth Varma coming on board as director. Keep reading to know about our opinions!
Prasanth Varma is the man in form to handle Indian epic!
It’s known that Dangal filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari is going to helm the highly-anticipated epic of Indian cinema. We totally respect Tiwari and his filmmaking abilities, but it seems that he’s a misfit for this mega project. So far, Tiwari has done films like Dangal, Chhichhore, and Bawaal. Actor Sharad Kelkar, who voices the character of Ravan in the animated series ‘The Legend of Hanuman’, has expressed his displeasure over poor dubbing choices in the industry. The actor said that this is particularly “frustrating because the content that has the potential to break new grounds in the Hindi market goes to waste because the makers don’t want to spend much on the dubbing process”.
Talking about the same, he said: “The craft of voice-modulation and voice acting is not appreciated in the industry which I’m very angry about. I have seen such brilliant content in English or even from south India, it has the potential to disrupt new markets but it all goes to waste when the content is dubbed in Hindi.”
He further mentioned: “Most of the time the dubbing is so bad, sometimes knowingly with the lack of budget ruining the viewing experience for the audience.

Actor Sharad Kelkar, who is the voice of Ravan in the upcoming series ‘The Legend of Hanuman 3’, finds it challenging and rewarding to portray a multifaceted Ravan who is headstrong, emotional and humorous.
Sharad had earlier lent his voice to characters like Malcolm for ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’, Ronan the Accuser for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, and ‘Captain Marvel’, Deckard Shaw for ‘Furious 7’, Raghav for ‘Adipurush’, Amrendra Baahubali for the movie ‘Baahubali’, among many others.
Talking about the same, Sharad said: “I’ve lent my voice to several historical characters but being the voice of Ravan has been uniquely challenging and rewarding. The image Ravan has is of being very loud, with his distinct laugh, but the way the makers have designed this show showcases him in a different light.”

A lot of films have been at the centre of controversies in all the years I have been an observer of the film trade. Some, because they chose a subject where a certain community was at the centre of the story, some, while they were attempting a realistic film, and some others who loved a book penned by a renowned writer, decided it was worth retelling it as a film and getting brickbats in return.
Take, for instance, ‘Ramnagari’ by Ram Nagarkar. The film was made by the National Award-winning filmmaker Kantilal Rathod in 1982. Objections were raised against certain references in the film and the Censor Board stalled its release. The problem Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Billu Barber’ faced some 27 years later was similar. The community known as Nayi or Hajam is called Barber in English.
In later years, these examples were followed by communities on a larger scale and somewhere along the way,...

OpinionIf only that meant Bharat ki betis didn’t have to stage dharnas and get shoved and pushed by the police, and maligned on social media when they stand up to sexual harassment in real life.A key event in the Hindu epic Ramayana is the abduction of Sita by Ravan, the King of Lanka. Ravan was part asura – divine beings with great powers who could be good or bad – and part human, descended from the Brahmin caste through his father, Sage Vishrava. In fact, there are communities like the Sachora Brahmins of Gujarat that proudly proclaim that they are his descendants. In Om Raut’s Adipurush, based on the epic, however, you’d be forgiven for mistaking Ravan for Bollywood’s Alauddin Khilji, with the kajal in his eyes and the beard in all his 10 faces. And oh, he also feeds huge hunks of meat to his outsized pet...

ReviewSaif Ali Khan is adequately leery and manic as Ravan in this Om Raut directorial, but there’s only so much he can do with such a shallow script.Prabhas as Ram in AdipurushIt is often said that the Ramayana is about how people ought to be, while the Mahabharata is about how people are. In the epic, Ram, the symbol of ideal behaviour and practice, is a young prince who renounces his right over his kingdom, and leaves for the jungle in the company of his equally young wife and brother. His trials and tribulations don’t end there – and each time he is tested, he must choose the path of righteousness. Beyond religious reasons, the story has such a hold across generations also because it has such fantastic drama. A family feud, a noble hero who is deprived of his birthright, a beautiful woman who is abducted by a lustful villain,...
