The Jacksonville Jaguars’ assistant strength and conditioning coach, Kevin Maxen, has become the first male coach in American men’s professional sports to come out publicly as gay. In an interview, Maxen told Outsports that he made the decision because he didn’t want to hide himself any longer and wished to potentially inspire others.
“I want to be vocal in support of people living how they want to live, but I also want to just live and not feel fear about how people will react,” he said.
Jaguars owner Shad Khan, who supported recent city legislation that expanded protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity, praised Maxen, commenting that he hoped the coach felt “confident, free and at peace” through the season.
Maxen has been a coach for the Jaguars since 2021. He was previously a strength coach at Baylor and Vanderbilt.

Linebacker Carl Nassib, who made history in 2021 as the first active NFL player to come out as gay publicly, is returning to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the 2022/2023 season.
Nassib announced he was gay in June of last year and received an outpouring of support from NFL and college football organizations.
Nassib’s announcement happened when he was playing for the Las Vegas Raiders, and he has previously played for the Bucs from 2018 until 2019 and the Cleveland Browns.
He also donated 100,000 to the LGBTQ charity The Trevor Project at the same time as coming out.
Nassib said in the video he was coming out because “I just think that representation and visibility are so important. I actually hope that like one day videos like this and the whole coming-out process are just not necessary, but until then I’m going to do my best and my part to cultivate a culture that’s accepting,...

An allegedly hostile work environment, created in part by her on-air co-hosts, is what Meghan McCain says prompted her exit from The View earlier this year, as detailed in a new excerpt from McCain’s upcoming memoir.
In the passage from Bad Republican, first obtained by our sister site Variety, McCain says she was the target of “toxic, direct and purposeful hostility” throughout her four years at the daytime series. (TVLine has reached out to ABC for comment.) As The View‘s resident conservative during President Trump’s administration, McCain felt as though “I had become an avatar for everything [her co-hosts] hated about the president,...

Former “Monday Night Football” commentator Jon Gruden stepped down as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders late Monday on the heels of a New York Times report that he repeatedly used homophobic and racist language in emails during his time working for ESPN.
“I have resigned as Head Coach of the Las Vegas Raiders,” Gruden said in a statement issued by the team via Twitter. “I love the Raiders and do not want to be a distraction. Thank you to all the players, coaches, staff, and fans of Raider Nation. I’m sorry, I never meant to hurt anyone.”

The View‘s live broadcast took a chaotic turn on Friday when co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro learned mid-episode that they had tested positive for Covid-19, prompting them to leave the set.
About 20 minutes into Friday’s View, when the show returned from a commercial break, Joy Behar hinted, “There seems to be something happening here that I’m not 100 percent aware of. Can someone please apprise me of the situation?” Executive producer Brian Teta then asked Hostin and Navarro to leave, promising “more information later.” Behar began to introduce the episode’s in-person guest, Vice President Kamala Harris,...

The perspectives are of Jack Colin (Trans Man), Tyler Sear (Ex-College Football Player) and Sean Aversa (Longtime Follower of the NFL). Jack: The Easy Way Carl Nassib Said “I Am Gay” - Most Impressive Jack: When I sat down to eat my dinner a few nights ago, my father had the news on and the top story came up. He turned to me and said, “He is the first”. The instant thought that came to my mind was, “that’s not possible”. I faced the TV to see it for myself. He was right like he always is. The football player calmly, confidently, and easily said three words that have been too hard for so many people to say out loud. In only one minute he changed the narrative for numerous people.

Sexuality in football is currently under the microscope. Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Carl Nassib this month became the first active NFL player to come out as gay, and while historic, it was also a moment of reflection for Ryan Russell.
The league immediately lent support behind Nassib’s announcement. On Monday, it went a step further by releasing a video pledging support to LGBTQ community with a declaration that football is all-inclusive.
It was a different experience for Russell, however, who in August 2019 announced that he is bisexual, and...

On June 21st, Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Carl Nassib chose to invite the world in to the interior parts of his mind via Instagram, and told everyone he was gay. As I listened to Carl’s Instagram message, I smiled and thought, “This one feels different.” Carl talked about the importance of representation, the suicide rates of LGBTQ+ youth, and how he hoped his openness about his sexuality would help everyone reach a maturity where these invitations would no longer be necessary.

NFL player Carl Nassib’s decision to come out as gay led to a groan-inducing joke from The View‘s Joy Behar on Tuesday, which Behar attempted to rescind later in the broadcast.
As seen in a clip posted to Twitter by journalist Justin Baragona (embedded below), the discussion of Nassib’s coming-out prompted Behar to remark, “After they said ‘penetration in the end zone,’ they lost me!” In response, guest co-host Ana Navarro jokingly put her fingers in her ears, while Sara Haines groaned and hung her head, Sunny Hostin shook her head while smiling and Meghan McCain raised her eyebrows at the comment.
