The General Lee is getting a little work done. Warner Bros. Pictures has hired scribe John O'Brien to do a rewrite on Dukes of Hazzard, based on the popular late-'70s/early-'80s CBS series. The show centered on the adventures of Southern cousins Bo, Luke and Daisy Duke, who drove around in a Dodge Charger nicknamed the General Lee as they evaded the unscrupulous Boss Hogg and Sheriff Coltrane. The studio hopes to shoot next year and is looking at the project as a tentpole. Ashton Kutcher and Paul Walker have expressed interest in starring as the fast-drivin' cousins, with Anthony Anderson as Hogg (HR 7/31). Village Roadshow is producing, while Greg Silverman is overseeing the project for the studio. O'Brien is also one of the writers of Warners' upcoming '70s-themed Starsky & Hutch, and he did a rewrite on the studio's Catwoman, now in production. He also wrote the Joel Silver-produced Cradle 2 the Grave for the studio. O'Brien is repped by Melissa Read of the Jim Preminger Agency and the Gotham Group.
