Chicago – When it comes to bad movies there are three types … fun bad, memorably bad, and ordinary bad. “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” belongs in the latter category. It’s a clinking, clanking calamity that fails on almost every level, which is about par for the course when it comes to this series.
Rating: 1.0/5.0
Set in 1994, this story operates as something of a prequel to the Michael Bay-directed original movies. The plot, such as it is, follows a small group of Autobots who must keep a MacGuffin – called the Transwarp Key – out of the hands from the Terricon minions of Omicron, a planet eating robot out to destroy all life. In addition to a pared down group of Autobots led by Optimus Prime (voice of Peter Cullen), there’s now the Maximals. These are robots in animal form led by a gorilla named, wait for it, Optimus Prime-al (Ron Perlman...

The giant shape-shifting robots are back, in the seventh instalment in the live-action Transformers film series, this time without Michael Bay on board as director. The result is a significant improvement on the previous films, thanks to a script that includes an increased focus on character, dialogue and actual emotion, while still providing plenty of robo-carnage.
Technically both a sequel to 2018’s Bumblebee and a prequel to 2007’s Transformers, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is set in 1994 and centres on three separate groups of shape-shifting robots. These include our old friends the Autobots, led by Optimus Prime (original robo-voice Peter Cullen), animal-shaped robots the Maximals, led by gorilla-bot Optimus Primal...

The Robots in Disguise return to theaters with a new mission the weekend of June 9, and analysts are already crunching numbers for the film’s summertime debut. According to Hollywood trend watchers and number hounds, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts could make $68M to $70M in its opening weekend in the U.S. and Canada.
That number is impressive after 2018’s Bumblebee opened to $21.6M in the domestic market, while Transformers: The Last Knight did $44.6M over a $68.4M Wednesday through Sunday window. If Transformers: Rise of the Beasts performs as expected, the action-packed installment inspired by a nostalgic property will be another win for the recovering box office. For those keeping track, Fast X is racing toward a $60M debut, with Disney’s live-action version of The Little Mermaid swimming toward $110M. Elsewhere, Spider-Man: Acorss the Spider-Verse could web up $80M, setting the summer box office on fire.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts: Newest trailer shows an all-out war as Unicron descends upon Earth
The saga of the robots in disguise continues as Paramount drops the newest trailer for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. It's a new, flashier, and altogether more beastly era for "Transformers" these days. Paramount's consistent top-earning franchise has undergone a bit of a creative shakeup in the years since Michael Bay went his separate ways after 2017's "Transformers: The Last Knight." The makeover truly began with the Hailee Steinfeld-starring "Bumblebee," the back-to-basics spin-off/prequel film that helped return the spectacle-driven series to its roots.
Gone were the overly busy and incredibly complicated visual designs of the past, replaced by much more familiar Transformers designs and a heartwarming coming-of-age film right up director Travis Knight's alley.
This time around, the series is switching gears once more and expanding the scope to tell one of the most popular storylines in the entire franchise: "Beast Wars."
"Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" is set to give the live-action treatment to what many fans have anxiously awaited for a long, long time.

Paramount Pictures is transforming everyone’s Thursday into a Hype Train by dropping a Transformers: Rise of the Beasts trailer. Inspired by the Beast Wars line of Transformers toys, the plot features giant robots that turn into mechanical animals instead of vehicles. Steven Caple Jr. directs from a screenplay by Joby Harold, Darnell Metayer, and Josh Peters. The upcoming film includes an ’80s backdrop and looks to follow the Bumblebee timeline.
In the Transformers: Rise of the Beasts teaser trailer, Optimus Prime encounters Optimus Primal in a forest. After the duo exchange greetings, Primal informs Prime that a new threat is coming, and there are dark times ahead for the people of Earth. As the footage continues, we see Transformers of all types going to war, the inventive new tech on display, and robot-on-robot action that won’t be a black mark on your Google search history.

The Val Zod series that Michael B. Jordan is set to executive produce for HBO Max has found its writers, Variety has confirmed.
Darnell Metayer and Josh Peters are now set to write the project, which will focus on Val Zod, the second DC character to take up the mantle of Superman. Val is a Black Kryptonian who found his way to Earth and eventually uses his powers to fight evil, including a brainwashed Superman at one point in the comics.
HBO Max declined to comment.
Metayer and Peters most recently worked on the script for “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” and on the Starz series “Bmf,” which is executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. They also have a number of other projects in development.
News of the Val Zod series being in development first broke back in July. Jordan is executive producing under his Outlier Society banner, though no...

Exclusive: Darnell Metayer & Josh Peters are set to write Val Zod, the HBO Max adaptation that Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society is producing for DC Entertainment and Warner Bros Television.
Val Zod is the story of another Kryptonian with powers who hails from the same doomed planet as Superman. The hero is Black, and he finds refuge on Earth 2. Like the original Man of Steel, he is sheltered on his adopted planet but eventually in the comics is pitted against a brainwashed Superman.
Metayer & Peters are prolific television and feature writers who broke onto the scene with their original pilot American Snow. Their project The Nola sold to Amazon with Sam Raimi directing. Their one-hour pilot, Hannibal, based on the life of the Carthaginian general Hannibal, they scripted for Scott Free and Endeavor Content. Apple preemptively bought it with Creed II helmer Steven J. Caple Jr attached to direct.
