Yet another coming-of-age series centered on the supernatural adventures of teen girls has been canceled after one season, with Syfy's "Astrid & Lilly Save The World" joining the ranks of shows like "Paper Girls" and "First Kill." Unfortunately, the social media campaign to #RenewAstridAndLilly was not enough to convince the network to continue the show past its debut season, which is a legitimate shame for all involved and all who loved it.
Often described as "Booksmart" meets "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," the delightful "Astrid & Lilly Save the World" was a series about high school best friends Astrid (Jana Morrison) and Lilly (Samantha Aucoin) who are cursed with the devastating reality of being "unpopular." After finally hitting their limit of enduring bullying by their classmates, the two finally lash out and ... open a portal to a monster dimension.

Astrid and Lilly dealt with this week's monster by chopping off their heads.
A doppelganger monster appeared in Astrid & Lilly Save the World Season 1 Episode 9, forcing the girls to cut off their heads (and Val's head).
Obviously, it was not their heads, but it still made for an exciting plot.
Despite being the least-scary monster in terms of looks, the doppelganger monster creeped us out.
Taking on the victim's likeness, the monster aims to replace the person entirely and eat the original.
Lilly ended up becoming the first doppelganger monster, three in total.
Thankfully, the girls made up during this hour instead of the final boss.
Speaking of making up, Candace and Lilly also made some headway in their relationship.
The doppelgangers were very realistic, as neither Brutus nor Astrid noticed that Lilly was not acting like herself.
Only after Lilly revealed herself to Brutus did he realize that...

While cheesy, campy, and all over the place, Astrid and Lilly Save the World manages to be entertaining.
Astrid & Lilly Save the World Season 1 Episode 1 introduces us to our title characters, along with the monsters they have to defeat -- in the form of bullies and actual monsters.
The lead actresses dedicate themselves to their roles and make a messy and lackluster script fun.
Jana Morrison and Samantha Aucoin play Astrid and Lilly (respectively), two girls who constantly get bullied for their body type and quirkiness.
A significant aspect of the hour set the scene of a horrible high school environment riddled with bullies and mean girls.
Their raw emotion coming from the effects of the bullying is portrayed wonderfully in the script and the performances.
They are happy and very close friends, but the ridicule takes a toll.
Their friendship proves to be one of the best aspects displayed in the show.

Halfway through the pilot of “Astrid and Lilly Save the World,” best friends Astrid (Jana Morrison) and Lilly (Samanatha Aucoin) stare down a mysterious stranger (Oliver Renaud) with awe and suspicion. “I’m your guide,” he insists. When they continue to just blink back at him, he sighs and clarifies that he’s their “Giles,” knowing that, if nothing else, these proudly nerdy teens will probably get such a “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” reference. And if the main inspiration for “Astrid & Lilly Save the World” weren’t clear enough before, all it takes is a glance at its first monster of the week, which might not be a vampire, but nevertheless has exactly the same kind of grooved prosthetic face as those that stalked Buffy and her Scooby gang over 20 years ago.
The difference is, neither Astrid nor Lilly are the peppy Valley Girl that Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Buffy was.

Netflix debuted a trailer for Season 4 of “Cobra Kai,” which premieres on Dec. 31.
The series takes place more than 30 years after the events of the 1984 film “The Karate Kid,” which culminated in Daniel Larusso’s (Ralph Macchio) triumph against Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) at the All Valley Karate Tournament. Their rivalry lasts throughout the decades, but in Season 4, Daniel’s Miyagi-Do and Johnny’s Eagle Fang dojos join forces to take down the Cobra Kai dojo led by their enemy John Kreese (Martin Kove) at the All Valley Under 18 Karate Tournament.
“If Johnny and I can actually work together and we win, Cobra Kai will be out of business,” Daniel says to his wife Amanda (Courtney Henggeler) in the trailer, which you can watch below.
“You gotta take things to the next level,” Johnny says to his students. “Eagles do not respond. They swoop down and take whatever they want.
