Macaulay Culkin, the actor who reached extraordinary heights of fame and success with his tremendous portrayal of the genius Kevin McCallister in his version of the Home Alone saga, actually shared a rather peculiar relationship with Michael Jackson in the eyes of the public. That being said, most fans may not know that this friendship actually started with a phone call.

As Culkin himself admitted it, the pair probably wouldn’t have shared the kind of close relationship they did had it not been for one “weird, random” call that the child actor received from the now-deceased King of Pop. And, although this may sound similar to the rumors surrounding Jackson’s alleged abuse of youngsters, that’s hardly the case, and Culkin stands as a witness to this claim.

More than two decades later, it’s hard to imagine anyone but Devon Sawa playing the titular role in the unforgettable music video for Eminem’s 2000 classic, “Stan,” but the actor has revealed Macaulay Culkin was the first choice to star in the visual.
“They went out to Macaulay Culkin first,” Sawa told Entertainment Tonight in a recent interview. “I think that they wanted him, and he wasn’t available, or didn’t want to do it or whatever.”
Thankfully for Sawa, Dr. Dre (who directed the video) was a fan of his work in Final Destination and suggested him instead. “There happened to be somebody in the casting office that knew somebody who was friends with me, and they called me that way… and it ended up working out pretty good,” Sawa explained, adding that the video was “one of the proudest things I’ve been a part of.

There are the rich and the poor, and a cycle of abuse never stops. Farrey is the story of a state topper wasting her talent to help rich brats out of her desperate need for money. "Night Court" was part of the legendary NBC Thursday night lineup back in the mid-1980s. It ran in a block with "The Cosby Show," "Cheers," and "Family Ties," a proud part of a sitcom renaissance that lasted through to the end of the decade. Of that lineup, "Night Court" was the black sheep, offering up broader characters, wackier scenarios, and a surrealist tone that kept it just a few steps removed from reality. The series was set in a Manhattan Criminal Court, but only during its night shift, when all the weird cases came in. Harry Anderson played Judge Harry Stone, although the late hours had made him playfully unbalanced. Also often on the night shift was prosecutor Dan Fielding (John Larroquette), a lascivious narcissist and amusingly crude a-hole.
Larroquette was exceptional in the role. "Night Court" ran from 1984 to 1992, and Larroquette won Primetime Emmys four of those years,...

Over the years, one could say that the Culkin family has ruled the film industry. Kieran, Macaulay, Rory, Christian, and Shane Culkin are all part of the film industry in some way or the other. The siblings have worked as actors in some of the most well-known projects in Hollywood, establishing their empire in the most iconic of ways.

Despite this, there has been no project that has overlapped for all five actors. That was, until now. It has been reported that the upcoming series, The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy, will feature all five of the Culkin actors.

There are “child stars,” and then there are performers that start working during childhood only to become bona fide, beloved screen icons, enjoying long, varied careers throughout their lives. Following in the footsteps of Shirley Temple, Natalie Wood and Mickey Rooney, Macaulay Culkin has — for three decades and counting — been a contemporary standard bearer for that personal and professional journey.
Culkin became a full-fledged cultural phenomenon after the explosive commercial success of his fifth film, 1990’s “Home Alone,” which he made when he was just 10 years old. The film grossed $476 million worldwide, due in direct part to his mischievous-yet-vulnerable performance as Kevin McAllister. But beginning in his teenage years, Culkin began seeking projects that piqued his artistic interests rather than sustaining his immediate and colossal celebrity. Even without any expectation for those subsequent efforts to reach the same stratospheric heights as his early breakthrough, Culkin’s star wattage has barely flickered,...

Few people love slashers as much as Nyt-bestselling author Stephen Graham Jones. Not only was his 2020 novel The Only Good Indians a slasher at its core, but slashers permeate every element of the Jade Daniels/Indian Lake trilogy that began with My Heart is a Chainsaw (our review). While that trilogy is poised to take a bow in March 2024, fret not, Stephen Graham Jones will next take on the summer slasher with I Was a Teenage Slasher.

Brainscan is one of those movies you would stumble on as a ’90s kid watching HBO, Cinemax or whatever other programming you weren’t supposed to be watching after your parents went to bed. The kind that you could tell right away was something darker than society would deem appropriate for someone of your age. The kind you knew would keep you up that night.
All of which made it impossible to turn off, of course.
But there’s a certain quality to Brainscan that felt still even more under the surface sinister than the other horror flicks I was used to at the time. This might sound silly considering the plot is about a misfit teenager who plays the hottest new horror video game advertised in Fangoria and ends up dealing with an almost cartoonish, mohawked, coulda been a guitar tech for Twisted Sister, Little Monsters type villain who...

On October 26, 1997, Tower of Terror aired as ABC’s The Wonderful World of Disney feature presentation, initiating a trend that would go on to shift the paradigm that had long existed between Disney’s immersive theme park attractions and their successful movie slate. The line between rides and movies was blurring and soon the path that carried the silver screen to the realm of reality would no longer be one-way.
Twenty six years later, the studio is on the cusp of their twelfth ride adaptation and their second big screen attempt at a blockbuster Haunted Mansion movie. Far removed from the made-for-tv Steve Guttenberg starring spook fest that served as a gateway horror flick to so many young and impressionable minds, these multimedia ticket drivers have left behind low budget simplicity in lieu of multi-million dollar CGI driven set pieces and A-list casts. Kieran Culkin is opening up about growing up with his massive and famous family in New York City. Kieran, who stars as Roman Roy on "Succession," is one of seven kids shared by Kit Culkin and Patricia Brentrup. The pair never married, though their split in the 1990s and ensuing custody battle became tabloid fodder because Kieran's brother Macaulay had become very famous after starring in 1990's "Home Alone" franchise. Kieran revealed in an interview with Esquire published March 27 that his dad - an actor himself - had all seven try to be actors, though only Macaulay (who his siblings call Mack), Kieran, and Rory pursued it seriously.
The family grew up in the Yorkville section of Manhattan, and Kieran says that even though he was just a kid himself, he felt bad for the way fame affected Macaulay's life. "Poor f*cking guy," he told Esquire of his brother.

Update:
Earlier this week, the Golden Razzie Awards announced their nominations for this year’s ceremony (of sorts). Among the nominees was 12-year-old Firestarter’s Ryan Kiera Armstrong for Worst Actress. The nomination hit the public domain hard, with cinephiles and general audiences chastising the Razzie organization for targeting a child to highlight misfires in the film industry. Today, the Razzies’ John Wilson responded to the controversy by saying, “Sometimes, you do things without thinking, Then you are called out for it. Then you get it. It’s why the Razzies were created in the first place.”
Wilson added that the negativity toward the nomination is “valid critisism.” He also clarified that Armstrong’s name is stricken from the final ballot and that the group is “adopting a Voting Guideline precluding any performer or film-maker under 18 years of age from being considered for our awards.”
You can read Wilson’s full statement below:

Welp, we’ve had a good run, friends. I’m not saying the world has gone to the dogs, but Netflix‘s Gunther’s Millions trailer shows us heading in that direction. I don’t know whether I should hang my head in shame for humanity or get down on all fours and propose to a dog worth 400 million dollars. I find myself in this position doing terrible things to my brain, and it’s only Tuesday.
In Netflix’s Gunther’s Millions trailer, we meet Gunther VI, “a dog living in the lap of luxury. He travels on private planes, eats gold-flaked steaks for dinner, and surrounds himself with a glamorous entourage of spokesmodels and entertainers. He is also a German shepherd,” says Netflix’s official description. “As the legend goes, Gunther’s great-grandfather was initially owned by a mysterious countess whose son died tragically. Rolling Stone‘s interview series King for a Day features long-form conversations between senior writer Andy Greene and singers who had the difficult job of fronting major rock bands after the departure of an iconic vocalist. Some of them stayed in their bands for years, while others lasted just a few months. In the end, however, they all found out that replacement singers can themselves be replaced. This edition features former Fleetwood Mac singer Billy Burnette.

In a year full of Pinocchio adaptations, 1996’s Pinocchio’s Revenge stands the test of time as a dark, disturbing update to the living wooden boy narrative.
“I wish you were a real boy. Then I wouldn’t be all alone.”
Carlo Collodi’s The Adventures of Pinocchio was first published in 1883 and for more than a century it’s proven to be an evergreen text that’s fascinated so many diverse storytellers and filmmakers. Disney’s animated Pinocchio is getting close to celebrating its 100th birthday, but audiences have no lack of options when it comes to Pinocchio adaptations. There’s 1996’s unintentionally-terrifying The Adventures of Pinocchio with Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Roberto Benigni has been responsible for two separate Pinocchio movies, and 2022 alone has marked the release of two new feature-film adaptations: Robert Zemeckis’ live-action Pinocchio and Guillermo del Toro’s somber stop-motion take on the classic tale. Zachary Wigon, director of 2014’s involving but underseen The Heart Machine, offers another story of confused impulses and competing desires in Sanctuary, a two-hander set almost entirely in a single hotel suite. Margaret Qualley and Christopher Abbott make an exceptionally good team here, in a film that requires a deep sexual chemistry but keeps sex itself almost entirely out of the picture. Careening from one kind of intensity to another, the encounter excites without prurience and, like the transactions it depicts, is more concerned with psychology than sex in any case.
Abbott plays Hal, the heir to a vast hotel fortune who has spent a chunk of his pampered youth in an odd relationship. He regularly meets a dominatrix (Qualley’s Rebecca) in his family’s hotel, writing scripts with which she will goad and humiliate but never sleep with him. Preparing to...

The wait for “Bridgerton” Season 2 is over at last. As usual, Netflix has a robust lineup of new movies and shows streaming in March, including the return of the lusty Shondaland Regency romance series that left audiences swooning after Season 1 debuted in December 2021.
Other new shows on Netflix this month include the thriller series “Pieces of Her” starring Bella Heathcote and Toni Collette as a mother-daughter duo contending with the mother’s past after a shocking act of violence uncover long-hidden secrets. November is the last month of the year for sensible viewing, before our TV screens become full-time broadcasters of golden retrievers saving Christmas and Will Ferrell wearing tights. Take the opportunity then, to get some good stuff in before the festivities.
In terms of good stuff, Netflix is offering the second series of the brilliantly wry and surprisingly touching The End of the F***ing World for any UK viewers who didn’t catch it on Channel 4. There’s also the excellent animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (we loved it. 5 stars.) as well as Boots Riley’s inventive, funny, political satire Sorry to Bother You (we also loved it. 4.5 stars.) On top of that, you can take a nostalgic trip to Capeside with all six seasons of Dawson’s Creek or watch emotionally repressed royals deal with the advent of the 1980s in season four of The Crown.

‘Stargirl’ Casts Nick Tarabay & Jonathan Cake As Eclipso & The Shade, Adds Ysa Penarejo As Recurring
Exclusive: DC’s Stargirl has found its Eclipso and The Shade – two of its primary villains for the series’ upcoming Season 2 on the CW. Nick Tarabay (The Expanse) will play the series regular role of Eclipso and Jonathan Cake (The Affair) will recur as The Shade. Additionally Ysa Penarejo (Project Mc2) will recur as an undisclosed DC character.
Stargirl creator/EP Geoff Johns teased the upcoming Eclipso and The Shade DC characters earlier this month at New York Comic Con. “Eclipso is so terrifying. I’ve always loved the character, and he’s a very different antagonist or villain than the [Injustice Society of America],” Johns said. He added that The Shade is “the most powerful of them all, and very threatening because no one knows exactly what he wants.”

Netflix Orders ‘Dirty Lines,’ A Dutch Original Series On The Rise Of Erotic Phone Lines In The 1980s
Netflix is working with Fremantle-owned producer Fiction Valley on a Dutch original series that will examine the rise of erotic phone lines against the backdrop of the 1980s cultural revolution in Amsterdam.
Dirty Lines is inspired by Fred Saueressig’s book 06-Cowboys and centers on young businessman Frank Stigter, who goes about setting up Europe’s first phone sex line, sparking what would become a multi-million dollar industry.
Working with his brother and sister, Stigter started with a clumsy experiment in his parents’ garage, but his business becames part of the hedonistic culture of Amsterdam, offering anonymous thrills for new kinds of customers.
Dirty Lines will be written by Pieter Bart Korthuis (Fighter’s Heart) and the commission was overseen by Tesha Crawford, Netflix director of international originals in Northern Europe.

The project, which is still untitled, follows the story of Richie Rich and his journey to becoming the greatest hip-hop artist in the Netherlands. Netflix and Amsterdam-based outfit Fiction Valley have announced the production of Shady El-Hamus' sophomore feature, an untitled crime-comedy set in the world of hip hop. The young director debuted with De Libi (2019), a dramedy revolving around a trio of audacious teenagers setting out on a riotous quest across Amsterdam to get into the city's most exclusive nightclub. The new project is penned by Jeroen Scholten van Aschat and the director himself, who scooped a Golden Calf for Best Screenplay for their work on De Libi last year. In the official press release published by the Los Gatos-based streaming giant, the film has been described as a “fast-paced crime flick with comedic elements about the contemporary obsession...
Netflix has commissioned its first Dutch original feature film, an untitled crime comedy focusing on aspiring rapper Richie Rich and his journey to become the greatest hip-hop artist in the Netherlands.
The project comes from writing duo Shady El-Hamus and Jeroen Scholten van Aschat, whose De Libi won the top prize at the Netherlands Film Festival in 2019; El-Hamus will also direct. Producers are Fiction Valley, the Amsterdam-based label owned by UK company Fremantle.
In the movie, when Richie Rich’s watch is stolen in a violent robbery and humiliating images of the encounter go viral, the rapper has to fix his reputation to save his career.
“It is a great honor as young filmmakers to have the opportunity to create the first Dutch Netflix film. The collaboration with Netflix gives us the opportunity to make a film for a bigger and global audience,” El-Hamus said.
Scholten van Aschat added: “The...

Netflix is in the works on its first Dutch film — a crime comedy about a man looking to be the greatest hip-hop artist in the Netherlands.
Produced by Fremantle’s Fiction Valley, the untitled film is penned by award-winning “De Libi” writers Shady El-Hamus and Jeroen Scholten van Aschat. El-Hamus, who directed the pair’s previous film, will also direct the Netflix feature.
The crime comedy follows Richie Rich and his hip-hop ambitions, which are threatened when footage of his humiliating robbery by a gang of teenagers goes viral.
Lina Brouneus, director of co-production and acquisitions at Netflix, said: “We can’t wait to work with the extremely talented creators Shady El-Hamus and Jeroen Scholten van Aschat, (who) bring the entertaining story of Richie Rich to life.”
El-Hamus added: “It is a great honor as young filmmakers to have the opportunity to create the first Dutch Netflix film. The collaboration...

Streaming services are very much keeping us occupied at the moment, and there are plenty of them around offering all sorts of different options for your beleaguered eyes during this pandemic.
Amazon Prime Video UK is slightly different, because it can be available as part of the Prime subscription package. Netflix isn’t yet willing to send us cat food and a twelve-year-old copy of Dune on DVD. Disney+ doesn’t try and flog us a tablet. Now TV hasn’t flung a gift card with frightening speed at the face of someone’s birthday you forgot …yet. Prime just hits different.
Also, Prime gets much weirder the longer you spend scrolling through its wares. If you haven’t fallen down a rabbit hole of old VHS rips and weird public service films on the eighth layer of Prime’s interface, you haven’t yet experienced the full glory of...

It’s in the prologue of Sunday’s premiere of Penny Dreadful: City of Angels that shapeshifting demon Magda (Natalie Dorman) asks what could pass for a rhetorical question: “Are you ready?” Of course we are. From the moment it was announced, we’ve been ready to dive into John Logan’s “spiritual descendant” of his sublime original Showtime series. But could City of Angels possibly live up to the promise of its bloodline? Would we be drawn in as quickly and deeply by Magda, her accomplices and opponents, as we were Vanessa Ives and the Creature? After you’ve checked out TVLine’s review,...
