- Joseph William Charles Gorman was born on 22nd October 1925 at Eton, Berkshire, son of Alice Margaret Crook and her husband William Gorman. He had other 4 more siblings, all born between 1921 and 1927.
However, he claimed that his father was painter Walter Sickert.
His maternal grandmother was Annie Elizabeth Crook and she died in 1920, 5 years before he was born. Joseph claimed that Walter Sickert told him that Annie Crook was secretly married to Prince Albert Victor, and that his mother Alice Crook was heir to the crown of England.
He explained this story to Stephen Knight who published his book Jack the Ripper: The Final Solution (1980) based on this story. Joseph Gorman later retracted and told it was a hoax.
