When news broke in early February that Mariah Carey had booked a return ticket to Las Vegas to mount another residency, it was revealed that she would design the set list as a celebration of her 2005 blockbuster album, The Emancipation of Mimi.
It inspired the title of the exclusive run — The Celebration of Mimi — as well as the timing. Carey took the stage at Park MGM’s Dolby Live to launch the 16-date residency on April 12, 2024, exactly 19 years to the day after the album was released. It’s no surprise Carey wanted to commemorate the 14-track effort, which sold more than 10 million copies worldwide and brought the elusive chanteuse back into familiar territory at the top of the charts. The success of Emancipation of Mimi was fueled by the No. 1 smash “We Belong Together” and punctuated by singles “It’s Like That,” “Shake It Off,” “Get Your Number,” “Don’t Forget About Us,...

Mariah Carey has experienced one embarrassing on-stage mishap during her recent performance. The 40-year-old pop diva lost her balance and took a tumble when she made her way through her dancers while belting out a song "Make It Happen" at the 2010 Formula 1 Singtel Singapore Grand Prix on Saturday, September 25.
The wife of "America's Got Talent" host Nick Cannon quickly joked "I did that on purpose!" as she got back to her feet with a help from a dancer. She then called out her assistants to assist her in removing her shoes. Despite the embarrassing moment, the pop star continued her performance and sang "Dreamlover" barefoot.
Mariah headlined the 90-minute concert and entertained the crowd with some of her hit songs, such as "Emotions", "It's Like That", "Butterfly", "Hero" and "One Sweet Day". For the last mentioned tune, the Grammy-winning singer was joined by her former back-up singer Trey Lorenz for a duet.

If there's one thing there's hard to find fault with, it's Mariah Carey's singing ability...unless you're Mariah Carey. Carey has apologized for not performing to the best of her ability when she delivered her rendition of The Jackson 5 hit "I'll Be There" with Trey Lorenz at Tuesday's memorial for Michael Jackson. Carey says she was too overcome with emotion to do the song justice. Relax, Mariah. You still did it nine million times better than the rest of us could have...</para ...

The singer, who faltered during a rendition of 'I'll Be There' with Trey Lorenz, claimed that she was overcome with emotion after seeing Jackson's coffin on stage. Mariah Carey doesn’t think she was completely on her game yesterday during her performance at Michael Jackson’s memorial service. She sang “I’ll Be There” with Trey Lorenz, which was a No.1 hit for the Jackson 5 in 1970. But Mariah just wasn’t satisfied 100%, so she took to her Twitter page to tell fans how she felt. She wrote: "Just recovering from the day. Still filled w/sadness as we listen to Kjlh in La (Stevie Wonder's radio station) paying tribute to Mj. Trying to sing today was basically impossible for me. Michael Jackson's former chauffeur Al Bowman claims the King of Pop, who passed away on June 25 after experiencing cardiac arrest, was terrified of dying so he wanted to clone himself to extend his superstar legacy. Bowman recalls the 50-year-old singer once attended a Las Vegas conference on human cloning with his friend, Uri Geller, and impressed by the teachings of a sect called the Raelians.
"Jackson was very excited," Bowman tells U.K.'s Daily Mirror. "He bounced out of that conference like a small child. He was smiling and on a high. I heard him and Uri talking in the back of the limo."
"He was talking about the prospect of being cloned. He grabbed Uri by both arms and told him, 'I really want to do it Uri, and I don't care how much it costs,'" the former driver continues. "Michael said he wanted a mini-version...

Mariah Carey has apologised to fans for her performance at Michael Jackson's memorial, explaining it was the sight of the King Of Pop's coffin that almost caused her to break down mid-song.
Carey kicked off the celebrity performance tributes with her rendition of the Jackson 5 hit I'll Be There, as images of the late star appeared on a big screen behind her at Los Angeles' Staples Center on Tuesday.
But her powerful voice could barely be heard as she sang, and the diva relied on long-time collaborator Trey Lorenz to help her finish the ballad, which became Carey's first worldwide number one in 1992.
After the show, the mourning singer took to her page on blog site Twitter.com to tells fans she struggled with the performance.
She writes, "Trying to sing today was basically impossible for me. I could barely keep myself from crying. I'm sorry that I wasn't able to pull it together and really do it right, but I was literally choked up when I saw him (Michael) there in front of me.
"One thing I know is, we will never really have to say goodbye to Mj. His legacy lives on through his music and the millions of people he inspired with his timeless music. He will be forever in our hearts."...

Mariah Carey had the difficult task of being the first performer at the Michael Jackson memorial on Tuesday. And when her voice cracked in the first few moments of her cover of the Jackson 5's "I'll Be There," she said she felt like she disappointed everyone.
On the "Today" show Wednesday (July 8), Carey described how hard it was for her to sing on the show and how seeing the casket made it difficult for her to get through the performance. "I feel a little bit like I let everybody down, but I really did try and it was difficult," she said. "But you know what I think? It was a true and honest emotional moment."

Michael Jackson's memorial service has been held on Tuesday, July 7 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. As it has been reported before, several celebrities participated in the event to celebrate the life of the late King of Pop. Mariah Carey was the first celebrity who performed at the event after Michael's casket was placed in front of the stage inside the building. In a duet with Trey Lorenz, she sang the Jackson Five's hit "I'll Be There".
Also paying tribute to Michael was pregnant Jennifer Hudson. Singing "Will You Be There", the "American Idol" alumna performed with the Mj Show Company dancers and the Andrae Crouch singers who delivered a bit attraction on stage. Also taking the stage was Usher, who broke down into emotional performance while singing Michael's song "Gone Too Soon". The Grammy-Award winner was wearing sunglasses perhaps to avoid showing tears that run down on his face.

Family, close friends and fans gathered at Staples Center in Los Angeles on Tuesday, July 7 to celebrate the life and death of Michael Jackson. Apart from speech, accolades and testimony, stars who have shared memories of him took the stage to perform in the late singer's honor.

Fans, friends, family, celebrities and media crews gathered at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Tuesday morning to pay homage to the King of Pop as the world watched. Michael Jackson staged one of his most amazing 'appearances' as his remains took centre stage at his memorial service in Los Angeles minutes ago.
As The Andrae Crouch Choir started singing gospel tune We Are Going To See The King, the King of Pop's coffin, covered with red roses, was carried through the Staples Center, where 18,000 people had gathered to pay tribute to the late star.
Pallbearers included members of Jackson's family and friends of the Thriller star, who died last month.
The choir performed before a simple church setting at the sports arena, with a sunset image of stained glass windows hanging behind the singers.
Following a moment's silence, Pastor Lucius Smith took to the stage to begin the live tributes to the King of Pop. He recalled that the late star had been performing at Staples Center in the days leading up to his death.
He stated, "As long as we remember him, he will be there forever to comfort us. In his very beautiful and human heart, Michael Jackson wanted nothing more than to give love to the world... and perhaps be loved back in return."
After the pastor's solemn words, Mariah Carey hit the stage to begin the celebrity performance tributes with her rendition of Jackson 5 hit I'll Be There, as images of Jackson appeared on a big screen behind her.

Mariah Carey performed one of the greatest Jackson 5 hits “I’ll Be There,” which was a No. 1 in 1970. Mariah covered the hit on her 1992 Unplugged album, and it also became a No. 1 hit for her as well. Mariah performed with Trey Lorenz, who sang the part originally done by Jermaine. The performance was definitely a tear jerker for those in the audience.

As MTV News reported earlier, tomorrow’s Michael Jackson tribute will feature (among others) Stevie Wonder, Usher, Jennifer Hudson, John Mayer and Mariah Carey. Carey has a history with Jackson, having covered the Jackson 5’s hit “I’ll Be There” on her episode of “MTV Unplugged” back in 1992. The song (and live acoustic video) became a big hit for Carey, hitting the top of the charts shortly after its release. Early rumor suggests that she’ll be performing that very song at tomorrow’s memorial, which will be a fitting epitaph to Jackson’s long and storied career.
We’ll have wall-to-wall coverage of the memorial tomorrow, so be sure to stay tuned here, to MTV News and to the network where we’ll have constant updates. It promises to be a memorable event — especially if Carey busts out her best pipes and brings duet partner Trey Lorenz along for the ride.
