Universal Pictures has set Emmy-nominated Breaking Bad writer/producer George Mastras to adapt the Dean Unkefer book 90 Church: The True Story Of The Narcotics Squad From Hell to be directed by its Snow White And The Huntsman director Rupert Sanders. The project will be produced by Huntsman’s Joe Roth and Palak Patel, who’ll produce with Deborah Giarratana. 90 Church refers to the address of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics when it was formed in New York City to combat organized crime and drug traffic in the mid-1960s through early ’70s. While the FBI refused even to acknowledge organized crime, 30 agents stood alone against a well-organized Mafia and vicious drug cartels. To survive against impossible odds, the agents used incredibly brutal and cunning tactics to make cases and bring the war to a stalemate. Using an ever-expanding network of criminal informants held together by secret immunity deals, the sinister...

Universal Pictures has acquired the film rights to Dean Unkefer's upcoming novel "90 Church: The True Story Of The Narcotics Squad From Hell" reports Deadline.
The title refers to the address of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics when it was formed in New York City to combat organized crime and drug trafficking in the mid-1960s through early ’70s. The bureau later merged with another into what's now known as the DEA.
At that time thirty agents stood alone against a well-organized Mafia and vicious drug cartels, and used brutal and cunning tactics to make cases and bring the war to a stalemate. The book itself is described as "fictionalized but based on true events".
The project re-teams "Snow White And The Huntsman" director Rupert Sanders and producers Joe Roth and Palak Patel who're joined by Deborah Giarratana. Writers are currently being sought for the project.

Exclusive: Universal Pictures has just acquired the Dean Unkefer book 90 Church: The True Story Of The Narcotics Squad From Hell, to be published by Random House in the Us and Virgin Books in Europe in May 2013. This is a significant deal and it will reteam Snow White And The Huntsman director Rupert Sanders with producers Joe Roth and Palak Patel, who’ll produce with Deborah Giarratana. They will begin looking for a high-end writer immediately. The book was sold by CAA in a preemptive deal with the studio, with execs Jeffrey Kirschenbaum and Maradith Frenkel overseeing it. Sanders has been developing the sequel to Snow White And The Huntsman, a movie which did just under $400 million worldwide. That project is now moving on a slower track, as the studio tries to figure out whether it wants to make a sequel, or instead a spinoff that focuses on Chris Hemsworth’s Huntsman character.

According to Cinema Blend, Paul Verhoeven (Robocop, Basic Instinct, Starship Troopers) has signed with 20th Century Fox to direct the big-screen adaptation of Kathryn Mackel's The Surrogate. This marks Verhoeven's return to Hollywood fare after directing the critically acclaimed 2006 Dutch-language movie Black Book and the period piece The Winter Queen, which is still in production.
Mackel's novel tells the story of the Dolans, a couple struggling to bear a child. They find a surrogate mother in Sable, a computer expert who convinces the couple to let her into the family. Sable, however, has a shady past that becomes more of a danger as the pregnancy progresses. The cover of the novel labels it as a "Christian Chiller," although it's unclear if the religious and supernatural elements of the story will translate to the big-screen adaptation.
