Dune: Part Two has been available to purchase on Digital services for almost a month now, but Warner Bros. has finally announced a streaming date for Denis Villeneuve's critically-acclaimed sci-fi sequel.
Fans will get to return to Arrakis from the comfort of their couches very soon, as Dune: Part Two is set to premiere on Max next Tuesday, May 21.
Although the movie didn't reach $1 billion as some predicted (always a long shot in the current box office climate), it did pass $700 million worldwide, meaning a third film based on Frank Herbert's second novel, Dune: Messiah, is likely.
Part Three hasn't been officially greenllt, but is believed to be in the early stages of development - though there's no guarantee that Villeneuve will to return to complete the trilogy.
“If we go back, it needs to be real, it needs to be relevant," the filmmaker told Empire in a recent interview.

For many years, Frank Herbert's "Dune" saga was described as impossible to adapt. Oh, people tried (check out our ranking of the "Dune" movies/TV here), but it wasn't until director Denis Villeneuve's two recent "Dune" films (with a third movie forthcoming) that one of these efforts was acclaimed. Villeneuve went from making a sequel to "Blade Runner" to adapting a story deemed a white whale. You can't say he doesn't have ambition, but even he has his limits.
Speaking to IndieWire in 2022, "Dune" screenwriter Eric Roth described his original pitch for the movie's opening sequence. Essentially, it was the Book of Genesis, Arrakis edition: "I started the movie with what would seem to be 'Genesis — 'and God created'— and you think you're seeing the formation of the Earth. And it's Dune, with wild animals, things you've never seen."
Roth remembered Villeneuve's answer, "This is magnificent, but...

Even if you weren't that big a fan of the bleak blockbuster that was "Dune: Part Two" or the equally bleak whisper-shout fest that was its 2021 predecessor "Dune," you've got to admire the artistry involved. If you take even a brief look at the effort that went into it, conceiving and creating the planet Arrakis was nothing short of an ordeal. Director Denis Villeneuve wasn't going to let "Dune" or its sequel become yet another generic CGI-laden blockbuster affair. Instead, he wanted to convey a real sense of texture and reality, even while bringing to life such fantastical source matter as Frank Herbert's 1965 novel.
There's a reason the visual effects team won an Oscar for the first "Dune." Not only did they manage to convincingly create scale, but they also managed to achieve Villeneuve's aim of making the film feel authentic despite the sheer amount of digital and practical effects work involved.

Anya Taylor-Joy makes a very brief appearance in Dune: Part Two, but if and when Denis Villeneuve returns to helm his adaptation of Dune: Messiah, the Furiosa star will have a much more substantial role.
If you haven't seen the movie yet, spoilers follow.
In Part One, we learn that Paul Atreides' mother, the Bene Gesserit Lady Jessica, is pregnant with the late Duke Leto's child. When the Fremen take in the survivors of the Harkonnen massacre, Jessica agrees to become the tribe's new Reverend Mother (she isn't really given a choice) and is "persuaded" to drink the Water of Life (a blue substance that's been extracted from a juvenile sandworm).
This gives Jessica incredible foresight and knowledge of previous generations, while also awakening similar abilities in her unborn daughter, who begins to communicate with and seemingly influence her mother's actions.

This post contains spoilers for the book "Dune: Messiah."
The adaptation of "Dune: Messiah" has already been approved, but we've long wondered just how the hell director Denis Villeneuve is going to pull it off. Not only is there a 12-year time jump, and not only are major characters like Jessica unceremoniously dropped from the narrative, but the book also features a lot of political feuding that will probably have to be cut for the movie to feel even vaguely comprehensible.
For screenwriter Jon Spaihts, however, there are plenty of reasons to stay optimistic. The big one is that "Dune: Part 2" has already made a ton of changes to the narrative to make a better transition into "Messiah," and he thinks those changes are going to pay off big time going forward. As he explained in a recent interview with Mashable:
"I think [author] Frank Herbert came away from...

When determining what films have any chance of winning the Oscar for Best Picture, or even being in contention for it, there recently has been a returned focus toward the delicate balance of art and commerce. As theatrical exhibition continues to rebuild and reform in wake of the global pandemic, the last two Best Picture winners, “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and “Oppenheimer,” were celebrated not just for being inventive, but for proving that audiences were still willing to come out in droves for a film without a colon or numeral toward the end of the title.
All that to say, if “Challengers” does well during its opening weekend at the box office, which is not a given, it will be much harder to ignore during awards season. As of now, there’s simply not much else down the line on the 2024 release calendar that fits into that sweet spot...

In Challengers, everyone is obsessed with Zendaya. Or, at least, her character Tashi Duncan. “She’s gonna turn her whole family into millionaires,” says Josh O’Connor’s young tennis champ Patrick Zweig, to old friend and doubles partner Art Donaldson (Mike Faist). “She’ll have a fashion line, a foundation.” It’s easy to see why they’re in awe. Duncan is a world-class player, brand ambassador, and the object of both their affections. And with regards to ambition, ability, and enormous success at a young age, they could just as easily be talking about Zendaya herself – a star who, over the past few years, has been executing her own Tashi-esque world domination. So far, she’s moved from kids’ TV star to being a part of some of the biggest movies on the planet. With Challengers, though, she’s taking things to a whole other level.

After this year’s Dune fever, it seems that featuring the names of Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya on the posters is enough to get people buying movie tickets. The Chani actress' new romance drama completely proves it.
The movie’s plot centers on the characters, who are quite specific for the audience, as they are tennis players, so be sure that there will be a lot of aces, volleys, as well as broken rackets. However, luckily, that's not the main point of the movie.
Zendaya here plays Tashi, an ex-player, retired from the big sport after an injury, who is now married to a fading tennis champion (Mike Faist), coaching him and preparing his glowing comeback on the pedestal. The snag is that his future competitor for the gold (Josh O'Connor) is both his former best friend and Tashi’s ex-lover.

This April sees Zendaya cross a milestone it honestly feels like she should have reached ages ago: a legitimate leading role in a theatrical film. The actor has been one of the biggest stars of Generation Z and a much hyped starlet for years now, and yet a quick glance at her Wikipedia page reveals a shockingly short resume.
The Oakland born star’s adult film career, after a childhood in the Disney Channel machine leading sitcoms like “Shake It Up” and “Kc Undercover,” really only started in 2017, with a brief supporting turn in Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” Opposite her eventual real-life boyfriend Tom Holland, she only had a scant 10 minutes or so of screentime as the sarcastic teen Mj — hardly a star is born moment, despite what the advertising for the film would have you expect.
Zendaya would reprise her role in future Spider-Man films, and her screentime increased with each installment.

Superstar Zendaya has been acting professionally since 2010, beginning with the role of Rocky Blue on the Disney teen sitcom "Shake It Up." Her first film gig was playing the voice of Lollipop, a talking pony in "Super Buddies." Zendaya continued to star in teen sitcoms and high school dramas for over a decade, appearing in "Frenemies," several "Spider-Man" movies, the remake of "Zapped," and the acclaimed HBO drama series "Euphoria." It's worth noting that Zendaya was already 23 when she was cast in "Euphoria," forcing the actor to remain in high school for years after her real-life high school graduation in 2015 (figuratively speaking).
The number of times the 27-year-old actor has played an adult is scant. Her first "adult" role came in the 2021 film "Malcolm & Marie," on which she served as executive producer. That same year, Zendaya also played the voice of Lola Bunny in "Space Jam: A New Legacy,...

The Godfather trilogy began in 1972 and is still considered one of the most iconic and influential films of all time. If you truly want to get into the essence of cinema, The Godfather is a must-watch for you. No wonder the film found a place for itself in the U.S. National Film Registry. It had a ton of unforgettable characters that filmmakers haven’t been able to replicate, even today. But now, it looks like Dune 2 has come to challenge this statement. At least, according to Denis Villeneuve.
The Godfather (1974)
In a recent interview, filmmaker Denis Villeneuve compared Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides to Al Pacino’s Michael Corleone. Given the fact that Michael Corleone is one of the most iconic and tragic characters in cinema history, it goes without saying that Denis Villeneuve’s comment has received mixed reactions from the fans of the film industry.

Before receiving a digital release last week, Dune: Part Two racked up nearly $700 million at the worldwide box office, paving the way for the third Dune film that writer/director Denis Villeneuve and stars Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya all expressed interest in making during the build-up to the second movie’s release. While the first two Dune movies were both based on the story told in Frank Herbert’s novel Dune, the third movie would move on to different source material: Dune Messiah, the second book in Herbert’s series. During an interview with The New York Times, Villeneuve confirmed that he’s writing Dune Messiah right now!
Villeneuve said, “That anger (felt by Zendaya’s character at the end of Part Two) is tremendous. I don’t want to reveal what I’m going to do with the third movie. I know exactly what to do. I’m writing it right now.

Zendaya has ruled both small and big screens for the past few years. Her portrayal of Rue in HBO Max’s Euphoria not only made the show a fan favorite but also made her the youngest woman to win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress.
The actress, 27, has secured several notable roles in movies, such as Chani in Dune and Anne Wheeler in The Greatest Showman. However, before taking on any of those roles, she established herself in the superhero genre by playing Michelle Jones, also known as ‘Mj’, in the MCU’s Spider-Man films. In fact, her first major motion picture role was in 2017 with Spider-Man: Homecoming, and she went on to star in its follow-ups.

However, when the actress showed up for her audition, producer Amy Pascal claimed that neither she nor Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had any idea who Zendaya was.

A few days ago, Legendary Entertainment revealed that Denis Villeneuve has started with the development work for Dune 3, aka Dune Messiah. The sequel, Dune 2, received a great response from the audience worldwide. The sci-fi fantasy film is based on Frank Herbert’s Dune movies. It stars Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Florence Pugh, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Austin Butler and others.
In Denis Villeneuve’s Dune movies, Timothee Chalamet plays Paul Atreides. When the movie was announced a few years ago, everyone was worried that it would be a good watch. In 1984, David Lynch also made a movie based on Frank’s novel. However, the film performed poorly at the box office, and even the audience wasn’t happy with Lynch’s adaptation.

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune 2 is well on its way to becoming one of the most successful blockbusters in Hollywood. A brilliant sequel to its impressive predecessor, the film was bigger, more visually spectacular, and more emotionally intense that the first part, which is credit to Villeneuve’s prowess and skill as a filmmaker.

While the director stayed true to the novels by Frank Herbert when it came to characters and events, he made a key change to Zendaya’s Chani that was significantly different from how she was represented in the book. The Blade 2049 filmmaker explained his reasons that actually stemmed from Herbert’s own thoughts.

As the saying goes, the mystery of Denis Villeneuve's upcoming projects isn't a problem to solve, but a reality to experience. And whilst we wait with baited breath for further word on Villeneuve's eagerly awaited Arthur C. Clarke adaptation Rendezvous With Rama (which is still expected to be the Quebecois filmmaker's next feature), we do at least have confirmation of another hotly anticipated Denis sci-fi epic headed our way. Yes folks, with the epic Dune Part Two smashing it at the global box-office, we can finally rest easy in the knowledge that Villeneuve is making further steps towards finishing his Dune trilogy at Legendary Pictures.
Per Deadline, Dune: Messiah — or Dune Part Three if you'd prefer — is in development at Legendary, with the franchise's very own Lisan al-Gaib, Villeneuve himself, set to helm the trilogy closer. And though there's no news as of yet on casting, filming, or even a speculative release date,...

Dune has over the cinematic world and the box office. Director Denis Villeneuve’s dystopian vision broke through the cinema thresholds back in 2021 with the film adaptation of Dune. The highly anticipated sequel Dune 2, starring Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Austin Butler, and more is close to minting over $680 Million worldwide. And for die-hard fans of the franchise, there is good news on the block: Dune 3 is happening! Legendary Pictures announced that Denis Villeneuve will be collaborating with the production for not one but two major motion pictures. And the highly anticipated Dune: Messiah is one of them!
Based on Frank Herbert’s novel, Dune is always three movies. Considering the end of Dune 2, a third movie is pivotal to Paul Atredis’s fate and how the consequences of the sequel affect the story’s arc in general.

Imagine being born with the gift of foresight and predicting decades ago that, one day, there would be a live-action "Dune" franchise. And not only would it prove accessible to mainstream audiences, but it would also end up becoming a genuine pop-culture event and eventually spawn three entire movies from one of our most talented filmmakers around. Well, the people have spoken and their wishes couldn't be clearer: more desert, more Arrakis, and more "Dune."
After opening weekend box office numbers for "Dune: Part Two" surpassed early tracking figures, boosted by positive critical responses (including /Film's review by Chris Evangelista) and word of mouth spreading from fan screenings, the obvious has finally become official. Stephen McKinley Henderson played Thufir Hawat in Dune, but sadly, the Mentat adviser to House Atreides was nowhere to be found in Dune: Part Two.
The actor did shoot scenes for Dune: Part Two, but they wound up on the cutting room floor, which director Denis Villeneuve has said was one of the most painful choices he had to make. However, Henderson wasn’t too bothered. “I shot stuff for them and had a great time with Denis and Austin Butler,” Henderson told Entertainment Weekly. “I got to have a nice lunch with Christopher Walken. It was a great thing to be a part of, and I understand it comes with the territory. Denis had to do the film that he had to do. So I just love being a part of it. No regrets.“

There are too many Marvel Comics out there to read them all — and I'm talking about both the current ongoing series, and the 85 years of accumulated material. The publisher is aware of this, so what's its solution to hook new readers?
In 2000, Marvel launched "Ultimate Marvel," a new series of comics set in a separate continuity from the original "Earth-616" comics. The Ultimate Marvel comics followed the classic heroes, from Spider-Man to the Avengers (renamed the Ultimates), getting their powers in a more contemporary-styled setting. These were comics written not to appeal to long-time, continuity-obsessed fans, but to hook the new generation of nerds obsessing over "Buffy" and "The X-Files." That reverberated back and Ultimate Marvel became the primary influence on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The world knows Zendaya today for being one of the biggest and most sought-after stars in the entertainment industry. She has consistently been part of some of the most exceptional projects, both the big and silver screen has seen in recent years.
But before all that fame and glory, the actress had started her journey into films and TV shows as a young Disney star.

The show she’s known for that made her climb the ladder to the top was her role as the titular protagonist of K.C. Undercover. But unlike most stars who try to conform themselves to their character, Zendaya had a different approach.
When she was offered the role in the series, she laid out clear instructions for the production on what they could and couldn’t make her character do in the series or she may have not taken it at all.

Crying on cue is a difficult task for most actors, but do you know what can be even more difficult? Only crying a little. This was a major concern for Kyle MacLachlan in the 1984 "Dune" movie; although one scene called for him to shed a single tear, he found himself either not crying at all or bawling his eyes out. That in-between area, it turns out, takes a surprising amount of skill to pull off well.
Such was the case for Zendaya during one of her character Chani's most pivotal scenes in "Dune: Part 2." When she finds Paul (Timothée Chalamet) in a coma after drinking the dangerous Water of Life, Chani needs to let out a tear to help return him to consciousness. But because she's Fremen, she knows that any more tears than one would be a waste of water.

Denis Villeneuve delivered a masterpiece with his latest film, Dune 2. Accolades have been pouring in for the director since adapting Frank Herbert’s novel was not an easy task. And yet, Villeneuve did it so well, which is a testament to his genius as a filmmaker.
Notwithstanding his innate talents for storytelling, Villeneuve has slowly and carefully built up his skills behind the lens. He has been directing for years now, and it puts him in a unique position to spot an individual with a keen interest in learning the ropes of the craft. He noticed it in Zendaya, who was as spectacular in front of the camera as she was interested in knowing her way around behind it.

Steven Spielberg has weighed in on Dune: Part Two, and the iconic filmmaker had some strong praise for director Denis Villeneuve’s sequel — and for one scene in particular.
The duo appeared together on DGA’s Director’s Cut podcast, where the filmmaker behind sci-fi classics Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T. The Extra Terrestrial heaped praise on the Dune and Arrival director.
“This is truly a visual epic, and it’s also filled with deeply, deeply drawn characters,” Spielberg said. “Yet the dialogue is very sparse when you look at it proportionately to the running time of the film. It’s such cinema. The shots are so painterly, yet there’s not an angle or single setup that’s pretentious … you have made one of the most brilliant science fiction films I have ever seen.”
Spielberg also got detailed in his praise for the blockbuster film. “There...

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two has been regarded as the filmmaker’s masterpiece and has been reigning at the box office since its release earlier in March. With $577 million at the global box office, the film has become the highest-grossing film of the year. Based on Frank Herbert’s novel series, the film starred Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya in lead roles.
While most critics and fans have been applauding Villeneuve’s vision for the sci-fi epic, there have been criticisms of the movie regarding its depiction of people hailing from Mena backgrounds. Critics noted the absence of significant members of Middle Eastern and North African descent in speaking roles, despite the films being inspired heavily by the cultures of the region and people.
