Exclusive: 2022 finalists for the Latinx List, showcasing top works by up-and-coming Latinx screenwriters, have been unveiled by The Latin Tracking Board, Nalip, the Untitled Latinx Project, and The Black List.
The batch of selected scripts consists of five original pilots and six original features. Among the finalists are Daniel F. Pérez (2096) and Makana Lani (Contingent), who have received WGA-minimum script deals from Netflix, through the Latinx List’s partnership with the streamer announced last summer.
“By providing this opportunity, the Latinx List is kicking the door wide open for emerging writers, and I’m humbled to be selected among such talented creatives,” said Lani. “As a queer, underrepresented writer, I’m thrilled to be writing a script for Netflix–a company that’s truly following through on their mission of championing diverse voices.”
“I’m thrilled that 2096 is part of this year’s Latinx List, and so excited to develop with Netflix!

There have been some Star Wars things happening around here lately, and whatever made this week a week that Star Wars and the internet decided to dance with each other, I can kind of trace it back to an artist named Tom Hodges who sketched a rough first look at our new Stormtrooper from Episode VII:
Now it delights me to be able to share with you similar work done by Puerto Rican artist Juan Fernandez.
These are of the Stormtrooper helmet photos, interpreted by Juan and his digital painting skills. From the first looks at the helmets to the ones posted yesterday and to see them rendered like concept art makes them feel so much more real.
They're not official concept art, they're just the creation of a Star Wars fan. But - they feel a lot more like Star Wars than a helmet on a table.

Hey, wait a sec. People were demanding a sequel to The Collector? The Saw prequel-turned-original-horror film from Saw IV-VII writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan wasn't a huge bomb; it made just under $8 million at the box office and seemed to have little buzz behind it. Even Melton expressed surprise during an interview that it had been greenlit. But it was cheap to make and had a life on video and cable, where I caught it. And here we are again, with a rarity in the world of horror: a sequel featuring the original creative team and star, Josh Stewart.
The Collector is a serial killer who stages a home invasion, knocks out the occupants and then litters the home with Rube Goldberg-ian (or Kevin McAllister-ian) traps,...

Santiago, Chile — A Chilean air force plane with 21 people aboard, including a popular local television host, crashed Friday near the Juan Fernandez islands in the Pacific Ocean, authorities said.
The Casa 212 military plane tried twice to land at the airport on the remote Chilean island but strong wind gusts buffeted the aircraft and it later was lost from sight, said Felipe Paredes, a local council member who was in the airport's control tower at the time.
Rescuers in boats were searching for the plane and survivors, but the mayor of Juan Fernandez, Leopoldo Gonzalez, said some luggage had been found in the water and it was clear the plane crashed.
"We assume that there was an accident and that there are no survivors," Gonzalez said.
Rescue teams later found an intact door and several knapsacks in the water about 2,000 meters (yards) from the island's airport, authorities said.
President Sebastian Pinera expressed sadness.
