Denis Villeneuve took the world by storm with his epic Dune franchise, which will eventually see the release of a third iteration. However, the director in himself is not staying put and is already working on another potential fantasy franchise which is bound to excite fans. The director revealed in a recent interview that he has an adaptation based on Arthur C. Clarke’s 1973 science-fiction novel, Rendezvous with Rama, in the works.

This article contains dune spoilers for across the saga.
Even the most casual Dune fan knows that, at some point, there’s a giant worm boy. Since its first printing in 1981, Frank Herbert’s fourth book in the franchise, God Emperor of Dune, has proudly displayed a human/sandworm hybrid on its cover. Dune fans know that hybrid as Leto II, the son of Paul Atreides and Chani, who melds with a sandworm and becomes an all-powerful tyrant. Leto II is also one of the most fantastic elements of the Dune franchise, a series already filled with images wonderful and bizarre. God Emperor of Dune also isn’t part of Denis Villeneuve‘s planned series of films based on the first three Herbert books.
To the faithful, the idea of introducing sandworm Leto during the events of Dune Messiah is as painful as anything endured in the Gom Jabbar. But...

When Paul McCartney was growing up in Liverpool, Elvis Presley felt like a revelation to him. The American artist’s music thrilled him and inspired him to pursue a music career of his own. McCartney said there was one Elvis song in particular that he could put on whenever he felt down. It always cheered him up.
Paul McCartney shared an Elvis song he loved
While growing up, McCartney, like all of his friends, loved movies and television shows. He found his biggest escape in music, though.
“But it was music that I loved,” he said in The Beatles Anthology. “There have been times when I’ve been feeling down, and then I’ve heard a particular song and it has lifted me.”
He said that he and one of his childhood friends both loved the Elvis song “Don’t Be Cruel.” Whenever they felt down, they put on the song.

"The Book of Clarence" is definitely not your average "Bible movie," as its first trailer makes very clear. Although it draws inspiration from Old Hollywood's fascination with large-scale historical epics, it takes the ancient setting to tell a totally new story, featuring imagined characters whose lives intersect with biblical figures we're more familiar with. With an all-star cast led by Oscar nominee Lakeith Stanfield, it's a new take on the genre, with the idea of focusing on the people whose stories would have been overlooked by history.
Is "The Book of Clarence" a True Story?
"The Book of Clarence" is set in a real time and place: ancient Jerusalem during the ministry of Jesus. Although biblical figures like Jesus, his disciples, John the Baptist, and Mary Magdalene are characters in the movie, the main story is not part of any known history or religious narratives. Instead, it focuses on the imagined tale of Clarence,...

Lakeith Stanfield stars in this film as Clarence, streetwise but down-on-his-luck guy who decides to start his own religion; with a full cast including Omar Sy, Anna Diop, Rj Cyler, David Oyelowo, Micheal Ward, Alfre Woodard, Teyana Taylor, Caleb McLaughlin, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Marianne Jean-Baptiste,...

The outrageous mind of Jeymes Samuel, who last brought us Netflix’s The Harder They Fall, is tackling blasphemous themes in his new biblical satire from TriStar Pictures and Legendary. The Book of Clarence sees Lakeith Stanfield doing the unthinkable — posing as humanity’s next lord and savior. Stanfield is joined by an all-star cast that features the acting talents of Omar Sy, Rj Cyler, Benedict Cumberbatch, James McAvoy, Anna Diop, Teyana Taylor, David Oyelowo, Alfre Woodard, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste. Additionally, the cast also includes Caleb McLaughlin, Babs Olusanmokun, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Nicholas Pinnock, Micheal Ward, Chase Dillon, Tom Glynn-Carney, and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor.
The synopsis reads, “Inspired by classic Hollywood epics set in biblical times, Legendary’s The Book of Clarence tells the tale of Clarence (Lakeith Stanfield), a down-on-his-luck denizen of Jerusalem embarking on a misguided attempt to capitalize on the rise of celebrity and influence of the Messiah for his own personal gain.

Why settle for worshipping the Messiah when you could just be your own Personal Jesus (in the wise words of Depeche Mode)? So reasons Clarence (Lakeith Stanfield) in the newly-released trailer for "The Book of Clarence," the upcoming old-school Biblical epic written and directed by "The Harder They Fall" filmmaker Jeymes Samuel.
Much like his feature debut, which /Film's own Ben Pearson declared his top film of 2021 (calling it "a much-needed infusion of new blood" for the Western genre), "The Book of Clarence" sees Samuel and a talented cast composed primarily of Black actors working in a historically white genre. Citing his admiration of swords-and-sandals classics like "The Ten Commandments" as the reason he wanted to make the period piece in the first place, Samuel admitted to Ebony, "[But] as much as we love these films, there are no Black people in there. What happens when we, people of color and powerful women,...

Sony, TriStar Pictures and Legendary Pictures have released the first trailer for Jeymes Samuel’s biblical epic “The Book of Clarence,” which is set to make its theatrical debut on Jan. 12, 2024.
“Book of Clarence” centers on the story of Clarence, a Jerusalemite man who is intrigued by the influence of Jesus and becomes a Messiah for his own personal gain. His journey leads him into an unexpected exploration of faith, per the film’s official logline.
The first trailer gives a glimpse into Lakeith Stanfield’s portrayal of Clarence as he attempts to become one of the Messiah’s apostles. Enthralled by the status of the 12 apostles, Clarence makes it his mission to join their forces.
Though the film does incorporate the use of biblical characters like Jesus, Mary Magdalene and John the Baptist, Samuel told Vanity Fair the story would “tell a Bible story about an everyman.”

Paul Atreides stands before a mass of warriors, even greater in number than reports had indicated. When he came to the planet Arrakis, Paul was just another human, someone who will die, just like his father Leto and his grandfather Paulus, and he only knew the Fremen from his studies and holofilms. But the Fremen see him not as Paul, but as Muad’Dib. And Muad’Dib cannot be stopped, certainly not by the machinations of the Harkonnens, nor by their masters, Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV and the powerful trade group Choam.

Despite flopping pretty hard at the box office, Disney's second go at turning its classic Haunted Mansion ride into a successful film managed to only further cement Lakeith Stanfield's status as our current genre king. Think about it: be it horror satire ("Get Out"), murder-mystery ("Knives Out"), or supernatural crime-thriller, it seems Stanfield is committed to turning over every genre stone there is. He's even tried his hand at a Western, playing the real-life outlaw Crawford "Cherokee Bill" Goldsby in Jeymes Samuel's profoundly entertaining "The Harder They Fall."
"The Book of Clarence," Samuel's follow-up to his feature directing debut on "The Harder They Fall," sees him and Stanfield putting their stamp on another historically white genre: the Biblical epic. The film, which was even name-checked by Jim Beckwourth (Rj Cyler) in "Harder," casts Stanfield as Clarence, a regular guy in ancient times who just happens to know Jesus Christ.

Making a “Black Panther” sequel without its Black Panther — following the tragic and untimely death of Chadwick Boseman in 2020 — was always going to be a challenge, and it’s a testament to director and co-writer Ryan Coogler that “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is as entertaining and affecting as it is.
At the same time, like so many sequels before it, “Wakanda Forever” doesn’t land with the same power as its predecessor. That can be partially pinned on the issues that plague any second chapter, where the freshness of the first film has been incorporated into popular culture, but there’s more to it: This is a movie that wants to wrap its arms around grief and loss, and to consider the transfer of power in a royal family, while also introducing a new corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that necessitates origin stories for a major character and his heretofore hidden kingdom.

Prime Video has been cranking out one sci-fi adventure series after another, with the latest being the Chloë Grace Moretz-starring adaptation of "The Peripheral." Based on William Gibson's novel of the same name, "The Peripheral" is the story of a young woman named Flynne, who discovers what she believes to be a virtual reality helmet that transports her to a timeline 70 years in the future, but soon discovers that this is not a game, it's a glimpse into the dystopian world to come. Now, pulled between her own reality of working grunt jobs in a rural area and an impending future that sees the fall of London's society as we know it, Flynne finds herself at the center of a battle she was never supposed to be a part of.
William Gibson's literary work helped pioneer the cyberpunk subgenre, with "The Peripheral" proving foundational for modern sci-fi stories like "Back Mirror.
