- The heavyset actor died in his sleep at the home of a friend in Los Angeles shortly after performing at The Laugh Factory comedy club. He was only 35.
- The only people to do something for the Soto family, after Freddy's death, was Kelly Mohr and Jonathan "Pugs" Myron, of the Pugs and Kelly show in Dallas, Texas. They had a fund raiser at a local club with other comedians. Several celebrity comedians showed up.

- Had a funeral at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills then his body was taken for a second funeral in his home town of El Paso, Texas. He was buried at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in El Paso.
