Dunedin (New Zealand), April 5 (Ians) Kim Cotton of New Zealand made history on Wednesday, becoming the first female on-field umpire to stand in a men’s international match between two Icc full-member countries.
Cotton officiated the second T20I between New Zealand and Sri Lanka at the University Oval in Dunedin on Wednesday.
The 45-year-old, who previously umpired in 16 women’s ODIs and 44 T20Is, first marked her presence in men’s cricket as a TV umpire during a tied T20I between India and New Zealand in 2020.
The New Zealander was one of the on-field umpires for both the 2022 Women’s World Cup final (50-over) and the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup final in February.

Cape Town, Feb 25 (Ians) An all-female umpiring team has been confirmed for the final of the Icc Womens T20 World Cup 2023 between hosts South Africa and reigning champions Australia, set to be played here on Sunday.
Jacqueline Williams and Kim Cotton will be the two on-field umpires, with Suzanne Redfern appointed as the TV Umpire and Nimali Perera stepping in as the fourth umpire.

New Delhi, Jan 27 (Ians) In a significant first for world cricket, the International Cricket Council (Icc) on Friday named an all-female panel of match officials, including three from India, for the upcoming Icc Women’s T20 World Cup 2023, to be held from February 10-26 in South Africa.
Three match referees and 10 umpires make up the 13-woman team in what is a landmark moment for women in cricket. Three of those 13 officials will be Indians — match referee Gs Lakshmi and two umpires, Vrinda Rathi and N Janani.
Lakshmi, one of three match referees in the upcoming tournament, passed a decade of refereeing in T20Is last year. Vrinda and Janani will be umpiring at a T20 World Cup for the first time ever.

New Delhi, Sep 24 (Ians) Union Minister of Women and Child Development and Minority Affairs Smriti Irani on Saturday met the five women umpires and match officials, who have been officiating in the ongoing Legends League Cricket, at her residence here.
This is a first-of-a-kind initiative in Indian cricket where Icc-approved match officials Gayathri Venugopalan, Shivani Mishra, Kim Cotton, Shubhda Bhosale and Gs Laxmi have been officiating in a men’s tournament for the first time in Indian cricketing history.
In an interaction with the match officials, the Minister applauded the remarkable initiative of Legends League to promote women umpires.
Special badges of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ were also presented to the match officials which they will be wearing during the remaining league matches.
“Women have been making the nation proud in the field of sports and the women officials of Legends League Cricket being in the limelight is a shining example of that.
