Cruel Angels Past Sundown: "New Mexico Territory, 1882: She comes to the Klein ranch at sunset, a strange naked pregnant woman dragging a cavalry saber. Annette Klein and her husband have built peace between their marriage and secret relations beyond, but their serenity dies in bloodshed tonight through a cannibalistic demon and a mad preacher.
Annette barely escapes the bloodbath to the nearby town of Low’ s Bend, where she might find safety with a shotgun-toting barkeep, two no-nonsense boarding room ladies, and the gunslinging bounty hunter who’ s captured Annette’ s heart.
But hell is at her heels. If she’ s going to survive until dawn, she’ ll have to forget everything she knows about peace and mercy, and face a hollow malevolence more ancient and ruthless than she’ s ever imagined."
Written by Hailey Piper, Cruel Angels Past Sundown will be available on July 25th from Death’s Head Press!

A Juneteenth weekend getway turns into a deadly game for survival in the new horror comedy The Blackening, arriving in theaters on June 16th from Lionsgate, and I had a chance to catch up with director Tim Story, who told me all about his horror influences, casting, and his on-set experience:
The Blackening centers around a group of Black friends who reunite for a Juneteenth weekend getaway only to find themselves trapped in a remote cabin with a twisted killer. Forced to play by his rules, the friends soon realize this ain’t no motherf****** game. Directed by Tim Story and screenplay and screen story by Tracy Oliver & Dewayne Perkins, The Blackening skewers genre tropes and poses the sardonic question: if the entire cast of a horror movie is Black, who dies first?
Lionsgate and MRC present, a Story Company / Tracy Yvonne / Artists First / Catchlight Studios production.
Starring Grace Byers,...

“Scream VI” isn’t the only meta-horror comedy coming soon to theaters.
With the tongue-in-cheek tagline of “They all can’t die first,” the all-Black ensemble cast of “The Blackening” sets out to survive a surprisingly deadly Juneteenth weekend trip to a cabin in the woods. A twisted killer seemingly unleashed from an ancient board game forces the friend group to play by his rules while they are picked off one by one.
“The Blackening” stars Grace Byers, Jermaine Fowler, Melvin Gregg, X Mayo, Dewayne Perkins, Antoinette Robertson, Sinqua Walls, Jay Pharoah, and Yvonne Orji. Tim Story directs the dark comedy slasher from a screenplay by “Girls Trip” scribe Tracy Oliver and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” writer Dewayne Perkins. The film is based on a 3-peat Comedy’s 2018 Comedy Central digital short of the same name.
Per an official synopsis, the film skewers genre tropes and poses the sardonic question: if the...

Out of hundreds of submissions, BET and Tracy Yvonne Productions has selected Thaddeus McCants as the winner of Project CRE8 which gives emerging TV writers the opportunity to develop an original comedy for the small screen.
The contest culminated on September 17 where the five Project CRE8 finalists pitched their original TV comedies to Tracy Oliver, Connie Orlando and a panel of TV execs. McCants’ original TV script Lit Lounge raced ahead to win. Lit Lounge is a satire on marijuana’s transition from Schedule-i drug to corporate commodity and follows a young Black man’s troubled climb to the top of the legal world of weed. BET will purchase McCants’ TV script for $25K and will work with him to develop a comedy series with Oliver’s Tracy Yvonne Productions.
