Is “SNL” new tonight? Yes. NBC’s sketch comedy series airs its Season 49 finale on Saturday night with host Jake Gyllenhaal and musical guest Sabrina Carpenter. In the “SNL” promo video (watch above), cast member Bowen Yang remarks on Gyllenhaal’s “incredible” body in “Road House” and how it “inspired” his own fitness journey. “Yeah, it inspired me to stay skinny fat,” he jokes. “I ain’t doing all that, sucker!”
The regular cast members for “Saturday Night Live” Season 49 are, in credits order: Michael Che, Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, James Austin Johnson, Punkie Johnson, Colin Jost, Ego Nwodim, Sarah Sherman, Kenan Thompson and Bowen Yang. The featured players are: Marcello Hernandez, Molly Kearney, Michael Longfellow, Chloe Troast and Devon Walker. In a move of solidarity, none of the cast members from last year’s strike-truncated 48th cycle have departed.

Maya Rudolph’s Saturday Night Live hosting gig appears to be a long time in the making. In this week’s promo for the actress’ upcoming episode, the SNL alum emerges from a Studio 8H closet after 17 years in hiding.
SNL castmembers Andrew Dismukes and Chloe Troast find Rudolph in her hiding place, where she sits in a prairie-like outfit and tells them over a bowl of oatmeal, “Oh, hello there! I wasn’t expecting visitors.”
The Loot star goes on to tell the shocked comedians she’s been there since 2007 when she left SNL after seven years as a castmember.
“Why would I leave? I have everything I need here,” she says, pointing to “my books, my porridge, my dear friend Kenny.” The camera then pans to a mop with googly eyes.
When Troast asks, “Aren’t you supposed to be hosting this week?” Rudolph responds, “Oh I am.

For seventeen years, patrons of 30 Rock have overlooked an iconic Saturday Night Live relic hiding in plain sight: Maya Rudolph. The actress and comedian ended her stint on the sketch comedy series in 2007, going on to star in films like Bridesmaids and Wine Country. She’s made periodic appearances on the show since then but returns in an official capacity this weekend as host. But according to her latest promotional video, she’s been there all along.

Maya Rudolph has been hiding in a Saturday Night Live closet for 17 years and is now ready to come out and host the show.
In a promo ahead of Rudolph hosting the NBC late-night sketch show, Andrew Dismukes and Chloe Troast are walking the halls of 30 Rock when they notice a door and laughing noises coming from within.
When they open the door, they surprise a stunned Rudolph, who says, “Oh, hello there. I wasn’t expecting visitors.”
When Troast asks Rudolph how long she’s been there, the Loot star says she’s been there since 2007, when she ended her tenure at SNL.
“I never left,” Rudolph says, noting her reasons adding, “Why would I leave? I have everything I need here. My books, my porridge, and my dear friend Kenny.”

Is Maya Rudolph actually the longest-running Saturday Night Live cast member? The just-released promo for her SNL hosting gig this weekend certainly makes that case.
The clip opens with Chloe Troast walking down the hallway at SNL’s offices with fellow cast member Andrew Dismukes, asking him if he’s excited for summer. (He’s got plans.)
But the pair are taken aback when they hear laughter spilling out from behind a closet door.
When they open it, they’re shocked to discover Maya Rudolph, dressed in colonial garb and eating porridge.
“I’ve been in here since 2007,” she explains. “I never left.”
“You’ve been here for 17 years?” Dismuskes asks.

After a shortened 2022-23 season, Saturday Night Live returned a bit later than usual to kick off its 2023-24 run.
The writers strike affected both the end of last season and the start of season 49; the end of the labor action on Sept. 25 meant a mid-October start for SNL — with former castmember Pete Davidson hosting — rather than the late September or early October premiere the show usually has. (The cast is covered under a different SAG-AFTRA contract than the one actors are currently striking against, so they can perform without crossing picket lines.)
The show’s cast returned intact from last season, with James Austin Johnson and Sarah Sherman moving up from featured players to repertory players. Chloe Troast joined the cast as a featured player.
Below is The Hollywood Reporter’s updating guide to season 49’s SNL hosts and musical guests.

NBC’s entire Lorne Michaels industrial complex is taking an extended Spring break.
Starting Monday April 15, The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, Late Night With Seth Meyers, and Saturday Night Live will all be dark for two weeks.
Fallon and Meyers are set to return with new episodes on Monday April 29th, while Saturday Night Live’s next live show (after this weekend’s Ryan Gosling-hosted episode) will be May 4th.
That’s not to say that everyone’s about to hit the beach. For some, it’ll be a working vacation.

It's always a thrill when a former "Saturday Night Live" cast member comes back to Studio 8H to host the late night sketch comedy show. That's especially true when it's a cast member as beloved as Kristen Wiig. That last time the "Bridesmaids" star hosted "SNL" was in December 2020, and it just so happens the best sketch of the night was a new holiday favorite where she plays a mother who gets a robe for Christmas while the rest of the family gets a plethora of better gifts. However, since Kristen Wiig was hosting "SNL" for a fifth time this past weekend, she got a different robe. And she wasn't the only one.
While it's become customary for newly inducted Five Timers Club hosts to get monologue bits that bring back some legendary hosts like Steve Martin and Tom Hanks, it's not always logistically possible to make it a star-studded affair.

The “SNL” 5-Timers Club has been around since December 1990, when Tom Hanks joked in his monologue that a person’s fifth time hosting is when they receive a membership card into the club. Hanks then left the stage and joined Steve Martin, Elliott Gould and Paul Simon in an expensive-looking set with hors d’oeuvres, waiters and a doorman. The iconic club set would be seen multiple times on NBC’s late sketch comedy throughout the decades, often (but not always) when a new host is anointed as a five-timer. Members of the club are always seen wearing exclusive jackets embroidered with a “5” badge.
So who has hosted “Saturday Night Live” at least five times? Scroll through our “SNL” 5-Timers Club members list above, which includes (in alphabetical order by last name) some of the most recognizable people in the industry, including Tina Fey, Paul Rudd and Tom Hanks.

The women of Saturday Night Live are commenting on a viral TikTok video that claims the NBC sketch show has “never hired a hot woman.”
“Am I the only person who’s ever noticed that SNL has never hired a, like, hot woman?” the TikTok creator, who goes by the name of Jahelis, said. “And I want to be clear, I’m not saying that every single woman who has been a cast member of SNL is ugly, it’s just that none of them have ever been like, hot… They all just kind of have looks that eventually grow on you.”
The video got the attention of current SNL cast member Sarah Sherman, who reshared it on X (formerly Twitter) and added, “I just found out I’m not hot. Please give me and my family space to grieve privately and uglily at this time.”

This weekend, Ramy Youssef became the first Egyptian named Ramy from New Jersey to ever host Saturday Night Live, and one of the night’s highlight sketches took aim at a beloved cultural mainstay: NPR’s Tiny Desk concerts.
The sketch featured Youssef as the leader of a band that gets to “quirk it up” on Tiny Desk, even having their cellist (Chloe Troast) playing a milk carton as a shaker for the occasion. As they begin performing, though, they are interrupted by Bowen Yang (playing a 35-year-old intern who attends “Suny Newark”), who asks them to “keep the ruckus down” because “some of us are working.”
The band, confused that their booking to play Bob Boilen’s iconic desk at the NPR office has gone awry, tries to continue, but is again interrupted by Yang’s character (who is on an “important Zoom” with “Glass and Gross” in the...

Tonight on SNL, Ramy Youssef appeared in a sketch parodying NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts series.
After singing a line from a song, alongside band mates played by Chloe Troast and James Austin Johnson, he tells a crowd assembled for the performance, “Thank you so much NPR. We are the Jonah Hughes Band. Now, that last one usually contains a lot more synth, but since this is a Tiny Desk concert, we’ve got to be quirking it up.”
“Yep,” says Troast. “That’s why I play a milk carton shaker.”
Youssef explains that Troast is usually on the cello, adding, “We’ve never actually played in an office before, like a real one, but being here is a dream come true.”
Before segueing into the band’s next song, “Crazy Girl, Amanda,” Youssef is interrupted by Bowen Yang, playing an NPR staffer.
“Hey, guys. Can we be quiet please?...

Ego Nwodim’s “Lisa from Temecula” character was back on Saturday Night Live, once again shaking things up (literally) at a sports bar for a group of friends that included host Josh Brolin, Bowen Yang, Punkie Johnson, and Chloe Troast.
Lisa starts out her bit with a good deed – she’s picking up the check for the group. Things take a turn, though, when she notices the gratuity has been included on the check. That sets off a table shaking frenzy as she tries to erase it.
When a manager comes over and says that Lisa has been seen stealing soap from the restroom and asks the group to leave, Lisa’s claim of discrimination causes Yang and Brolin to break the wall in barely disguised laughter.
“Hold up, this wing ain’t done,” Lisa said at the end of the sketch. “That’s it, I’m suing. I told them to cook my meat!

“Saturday Night Live” host Sydney Sweeney and cast member Chloe Troast were the nation’s No. 1 interior designers for Airbnbs in one of the final skits on Saturday. The pair rolled out all the clichés that Airbnb guests have experienced, from hard-to-operate locks to bland words used as artwork on walls.

“Why stay in a hotel when for basically the same amount of money you can stay in a place with worse sheets and a camera in the toilet?” Troast asked.

Over Hollywood's history, directors have done all sorts of quirky and morally questionable things in an effort to get a certain performance out of their actors. Francis Ford Coppola screamed abuse at Winona Ryder off-camera during the making of "Bram Stoker's Dracula" and encouraged the other actors to do the same. Then there's everything that William Friedkin did to the cast of "The Exorcist," from slapping them before shouting "action!" to firing live guns to get a shocked expression.
By comparison, "Meet Me in St. Louis" director Vincente Minnelli telling six-year-old actress Margaret O'Brien that her dog had died in order to make her cry for the 1944 musical "Meet Me in St. Louis" seems almost tame. Especially since it probably didn't actually happen (more on that in a moment). Especially since it probably didn't actually happen (more on that in a moment). The last “Saturday Night Live” of the year is always a special occasion, and 2023 was no exception: Billie Eilish performed the television debut of “What Was I Made For?,” written and recorded for Greta Gerwig’s summer blockbuster “Barbie,” as well as a torchy interpretation of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” She also appeared in a long sketch with host Kate McKinnon that closed out the show.
The musical performances showed off Eilish’s rapidly growing range as a singer: she brought a deep yearning in the first song and a sultry jazz flavor to the second, with a depth and nuance only hinted at earlier in her career.
“What Was I Made For?” was introduced by Gerwig who appeared on stage alongside host (and “Barbie” costar) McKinnon in a joyful embrace. Eilish appeared in a simple pink polo shirt, jeans and silver-lame hightop sneakers. Her performance was accompanied...

For the first time since leaving the cast of “Saturday Night Live” in May 2022, Kate McKinnon is returning to NBC’s late night sketch comedy series … only this time as a host. The “Barbie” scene-stealer will headline this weekend’s December 16 episode with musical guest Billie Eilish. In a new “SNL” promo video (watch above), McKinnon wishes upon the Christmas tree at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City that she’ll be this week’s host, and her dream comes true.
“Hey, tree. What’s up? I haven’t seen you in a while,” McKinnon declares while donning winter clothes and a beanie hat. “I know you’re probably fielding a lot of Christmas wishes right now, but I’d like to add one myself, if that’s okay. I’d really love to host ‘SNL’ this week with musical guest Billie Eilish.”

Cecily Strong, a former Saturday Night Live cast member, made a surprise return to the show ahead of the December 9 edition. The actress and comedian, who departed SNL at the end of 2022, took part in rehearsals portraying Rep. Elise Stefanik. However, when the show aired, Strong had been replaced by new featured cast member Chloe Troast in the same role, according to sources. Saturday Night Network also confirmed the news. Speculation arose about Strong possibly postponing her return to appear on the next week’s episode, where Kate McKinnon, another alum, was set to host. The reason for Strong’s substitution in the cold open was unclear. It was also unknown how much preparation Troast had before taking on the role and interpreting the political character in her own way. The sketch itself faced mixed reactions, with lukewarm laughs and a predominantly negative response from viewers online. Additionally, there were errors in the sketch,...

Adam Driver had some very specific requests on his Christmas list for Santa Claus this year.
During his Saturday Night Live opening monologue, the Ferrari star decided to share his holiday wishes as he played piano.
“Hey, Santa! It’s me, Adam Driver from the nice list and also Girls,” the actor says. “I turned 40 this year, Santa, so I’d like five pairs of Chinos.”
Driver also had another wish regarding his time playing Kylo Ren in Star Wars and the one scene he can’t seem to live down. “I’d like people to stop coming up to me on the street saying, ‘You killed Han Solo,'” the actor says. “I didn’t kill Han Solo. Wokeness killed Han Solo.”
After thinking about what else he wanted for Christmas, Driver asks, “You know those TikToks where it’s like those couples who do pranks on each other?...

This week’s Saturday Night Live cold open gave us a C-span report on the GOP-led Congress’ bizarre hearing this week consisting of testimony from a trio of university presidents on the subject of antisemitism on U.S. college campuses. There was: MIT president Sally Kornbluth (Chloe Fineman), University of Pennsylvania president Elizabeth Magill (Heidi Gardner), and Harvard president Dr. Claudine Gay (Ego Nwodim).
Maga minion Rep. Elise Stefanik (played by Chloe Troast) kicked off the proceedings, saying, “Now, I’m going to start screaming questions at these women like I’m Billy Eichner.

Just hours after Liz Magill resigned as president of the University of Pennsylvania over the evasive answers she and two other academic leaders gave in a testimony at a House hearing this week, the three were being mocked on the Saturday Night Live cold open.
So was Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-ny), the Trump-supporting congresswoman whose queries nevertheless triggered a bipartisan furor directed at university presidents, who have been faced with weeks of protests on their campuses over the Israel-Gaza war. In clips that went viral this week, Stefanik asked whether someone calling “for the genocide of Jews” would violate the schools’ code of conduct. The university presidents did not answer “yes” or “no” and instead gave nuanced responses.
In the SNL skit, staged as C-span coverage, the three gave even more opaque answers.

This weekend, "Saturday Night Live" gave Emma Stone the honor of joining the Five Timers Club. With her fifth time hosting the late night sketch comedy show, at age 35 she also became the youngest member of the exclusive club. Stone certainly proved that she deserves to join the ranks of the most legendary hosts of "SNL," as she delivered the best episode of season 49 so far.
In her previous hosting stints, Emma Stone showed that if she wasn't already a big time movie star, she could easily be a cast member on "SNL." Never afraid to be goofy, easily able to inhabit a variety of characters, and endlessly talented, Stone is one of the best hosts that "SNL" has ever seen. When it comes to her latest effort, "SNL" brought back a couple of recurring bits, including a favorite from Stone's previous times hosting the show.

Stefon Zelesky — movie star?
Seth Meyers said this week that a movie based on Bill Hader’s popular Saturday Night Live character was discussed but scrubbed, leaving the club kid who appeared on the late-night staple often from 2008-13, and a couple of times after, to linger only in fans’ memory. And YouTube (see below).
In an interview for Las Culturistas, the podcast hosted by comic actor Matt Rogers and SNL‘s Bowen Yang, the Late Night host said he would have had a small part in the pic but that his “Weekend Update” anchor would have died early on — after a long night of partying with Stefon. So someone else would have had to co-star.
“There was a moment in time where the idea of a Stefon script was being discussed,” he said. “This was not a scene that was written, but I did have a pitch for myself...

It's great to have "Saturday Night Live" back in the swing of things, especially now that the Screen Actors Guild strike is over, and the show can have big name hosts arrive in Studio 8H with the ability to parody (and promote) their upcoming movies. This week, "Dune" star Timothée Chalamet was the first host to take full advantage of the Hollywood strikes being over, and he even musically celebrated with a little bit of Willy Wonka thrown in there for good measure.
The first time Timothée Chalamet hosted "SNL," it was a delightful holiday romp, where he had a blast with Pete Davidson. But with Davidson not part of the "SNL" cast, was it just as much of a good time? Chalamet certainly had fun without Davidson, but this episode wasn't quite as consistently funny as his hosting debut. Having said that, Chalamet brought back two of his beloved...

Stand-up comic Nate Bargatze, whose family-friendly routines have earned him the reputation as the Nicest Guy In Comedy, shows an entirely different side of himself in today’s Saturday Night Live promo.
Bargatze, who will make his SNL guest host debut on this Saturday’s Halloween episode, begins the promo in his standard genial mode, apologizing to cast members Andrew Dismukes and Devon Walker for taking up space.
“You can be anywhere you want,” Dismukes says, with Walker adding, “You’re the star, you’re the host.” The duo advise the newcomer to be “more Hollywood, more edgy.”
The advice goes quickly to his head, and when cast member Chloe Troast offers Bargatze some “welcome coffee,” Nasty Nate makes a sudden arrival.
The Grammy Award-nominated Bargatze, whose streaming stand-up specials include Hello World, The Greatest Average American, The Tennessee Kid and Full Time Magic, is currently touring his show Be Funny.

Stand-up comedian Nate Bargatze is making his “Saturday Night Live” debut this weekend as the host of the third episode of Season 49. He will be joined by musical guest Foo Fighters, who were supposed to perform last season until the writers’ strike postposed the final three episodes of NBC’s late night sketch comedy program. In a new promo video (watch above), Bargatze is told that he needs to shed his “nice guy” image by cast members Andrew Dismukes and Devon Walker, so he goes full-Hulk by vandalizing the iconic “SNL” studio.
“You know what your problem is? You’re too nice,” Dismukes tells him. “Mr. Nice Guy. You gotta be Hollywood, more edgy.”
Bargatze contemplates those words and ultimately replies, “More Hollywood? I can do that.”
New cast member Chloe Troast appears and hands over some “welcome coffee with simple syrup,” to which Bargatze takes the cup and aggressively throws it against the stage.

Saturday Night Live wasn’t going to miss the chance to do a Barbie parody.
Given the show has been off the air since the writers strike started at the beginning of May, the season 49 opener was its first chance and Lorne Michaels let Pete Davidson fly.
Davidson mocked himself, particularly his show Bupkis and his legal battles with Kanye West during the pastiche of the Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling-fronted toy adaptation.

Bupkis, the Peacock drama that Davidson created and starred in alongside Edie Falco and Joe Pesci, took an early pasting in the parody.
“No one cares about the work I do. I made a show with Joe Pesci too...

We now know who will be sitting behind the Daily Show news desk — at least temporarily — when the Comedy Central series returns from its long, WGA strike-dictated break.
As previously announced, the late-night program will return with new episodes on Monday, Oct. 16 — although the show’s new, yet-to-be-named permanent host will not take his/her seat behind the desk until 2024. In the meantime, guest hosts will continue to fill the void left by Trevor Noah.
