And, action. A few years back, Ti West and Mia Goth took the horror world by surprise – not with the fact that their slasher team-up X was excellent (West’s work has long been acclaimed), but with the news that, during its production, the pair had devised and shot an imminent prequel, the 1920s-set Pearl. Together, the two films made fascinating companion-pieces – each evoking different eras of filmmaking without holding back on the gore, the scares, and some surprising melancholy undertones. Add in astonishing performances from Goth as both rising porn star Maxine Minx and psycho killer Pearl, and you had an instant double-whammy hit. Now, they’re about to cap it off with X sequel MaXXXine – taking Ms. Minx into 1980s Hollywood. Watch the trailer:
If you’ve caught up on X and Pearl already, this looks like a hugely exciting closing chapter – one firmly leaning into its 1985 setting,...

Look out Hollywood! Maxine Minx has come to town to be a star, and heaven help those who get in her way. Including, presumably, a mysterious killer who has designs on her.
A24 has finally dropped the trailer for Maxxxine, the final nail in the proverbial coffin of its hit and acclaimed X horror trilogy from filmmaker Ti West.
The previous two installments, X and its prequel Pearl, proved to be a tour de force showcase for star Mia Goth when they were released back to back in 2022 and re-established West as a buzzy filmmaker in the horror community.
Maxxxine, written and directed by West, is set about six years after the events of X and focuses on the lone survivor of that bloody night, aspiring starlet Maxine, played by Goth. Now in grungy mid-1980s Hollywood, Maxine is now Maxine Minx, a full-fledged porn star (and wearing the mileage,...

The American Society of Cinematographers has unveiled the nominations for its 38th annual ASC Awards, honoring the year’s best in feature film, documentary and television cinematography.
The society’s marquee Theatrical Feature Film nominees are chock-full of awards-season favorite pics, with one surprise. Edward Lachman is up for the Netflix pic El Conde, joining the likes of Matthew Libatique for Maestro, Rodrigo Prieto for Killers of the Flower Moon, Robbie Ryan for Poor Things, Hoyte van Hoytema for Oppenheimer.
Prieto also lensed the year’s No. 1 movie, Barbie, but missed the ASC cut today.
The group’s film winner has gone on to claim the Academy Award nearly half of the time — 17 times in its 37 years — but not last year. Mandy Walker won the ASC’s top film prize in 2023, but the Academy Award went to James Friend for All Quiet on the Western Front.

Minx didn’t have much luck. After being canceled by HBO Max after one season, the erotic comedy was saved by Starz, but Minx has been canceled yet again following its second season.
The news isn’t all that surprising, but still a blow for fans of the series. Set in 1970s Los Angeles, Minx stars Ophelia Lovibond as Joyce, an “earnest young feminist who joins forces with low-rent publisher (Jake Johnson) to create the first erotic magazine for women.” In addition to Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson, Minx also stars Idara Victor, Jessica Lowe, Lennon Parham, Michael Angarano, and Oscar Montoya. The first season stands at 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, although its audience score is much lower.

Starz will not be proceeding with a third season of 1970s-set series Minx.
The news is not surprising. Minx star Jake Johnson told Deadline last month that he did not expect a Season 3 renewal for the period erotic comedy, whose Season 2 finale aired Sept. 8.
Starz last January stepped in to rescue Minx, starring Ophelia Lovibond and Johnson, following the series’ cancellation by Max (then HBO Max) as part of cost-cutting tax write-offs while production was wrapping on Season 2. The premium network, which is in the process of cutting ties with owner Lionsgate, picked up both Season 1 and the unaired Season 2 of Minx, which is produced by Lionsgate Television. Both seasons will remain on the Starz app and all major platforms.
Speaking with Deadline, Johnson, who had cut his hair short in anticipation of the cancellation, referenced of Minx‘s first axing and the challenges the show faced by its second...

[This story contains spoilers from the season two finale of Minx, “Woman of the Hour.”]
In Minx‘s season two finale, the Bottom Dollar gang reunites to hit back at Constance Papadopoulos’ takeover, which has not only reshaped the magazine (titled “Minx”) but slowly revealed itself as more hostile than (almost) anyone realized.
While much of the group catches on in the finale, Doug (Jake Johnson) was the first to see Constance’s (Elizabeth Perkins) moves for what they were, bringing the evidence to Tina (Idara Victor) in the season’s penultimate episode while she was on a cabin-in-the-woods retreat with Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond) finding new women to join the Minx staff.
But the magazine’s international operations — promised to Doug by Joyce — were handed to Tina by Constance. Earlier in the season, Tina also turned down Doug’s marriage proposal after they both attended her family dinner, where Doug discovered she never told her family they were dating. As a result,...

If there's one thing we should all know by now, it's that Doug Renetti will find a way to end up on top.
After a season that saw him with less control and a smaller office, disappointments mounting up left and right, and the dissolution of his relationship, Doug ended up with more power than he's seemingly ever had. And it was all thanks to Constance.
But while Doug was given the keys to the kingdom on Minx Season 2 Episode 8, Joyce was staging a coup, and now the future of Minx is up in the air.
Raise your hand if you saw the season ending this way. Not me.
I firmly believed Constance couldn't stand Doug, but whether or not that was true didn't really matter in the end.

Realizing the limitations Constance was putting on the content Joyce and her team create, they made a bold choice to run a Richie’s (Oscar Montoya) bathhouse shoot, knowing they’d all likely be fired for their actions. [Lennon Parham’s answers were collected prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike authorization.] Minx is quickly approaching its Season 2 finale, and the characters have been through quite a lot already, particularly Shelly (Lennon Parham), Joyce’s (Ophelia Lovibond) sister and a contributor to the show’s titular publication. After first finding a spark with Bambi (Jessica Lowe) in Season 1, Shelly has come even further out of her shell, having explored swinging alongside her husband and most recently engaging in an affair with Joyce’s former professor on a visit to Vassar. As she struggled to find herself and come to terms with her identity, Shelly finally came to the realization in Episode 7, “God Closes a Door, Opens a Glory Hole,” that she is a lesbian. Starz “The process of coming out, I think, or discovering your sexual identity isn’t necessarily a straight line for most people,” series creator Ellen Rapoport told TV Insider.

In our Q&a series Popsugar Crush, we get to know some of our favorite celebs' more intimate details - from their signature scent to their perfect date night. This month, we're crushing on "Minx" star Jessica Lowe.
Jessica Lowe's Bambi is the beating heart of "Minx." The series, which moved to Starz for its second season, follows the titular women's magazine, which combines feminist essays with very sexy pornography, featuring men exclusively. And while her coworkers may overlook her from time to time, Bambi embodies what it means to be a Minx woman more than anyone else.
"She's an icon," Lowe tells Popsugar of her character. "A sexually open, stunningly stylish icon." Lowe describes her character as "not academic" with "a lot of grit." But when her coworkers overlook her - as they often do in season two - it deeply hurts Bambi. Combine that with her angst over her...

Is Bottom Dollar no more?
Seemingly out of the blue, Doug stumbled upon some incriminating evidence hastily thrown away in his office on Minx Season 2 Episode 7 that sent him into a spiral.
Could the company he built from the ground up really be gone just like that?
Since Constance bought Bottom Dollar, she's flexed her influence and capital in various ways. From shutting down Doug's space magazine to spearheading the campaign to find the Minx International publishers, there's been no hiding that Bottom Dollar was Constance's to run.
Sure, she deflected responsibilities at times when it was convenient to, but for the most part, she hasn't been shy about making decisions for both the company and Minx, in particular.
She tapped Tina to head up the International venture without talking to Joyce, and she threw Tina and Joyce into the woods under the guise of using their help to find...

I'm not sure what it says about this season that the best installment thus far had everyone paired up and scattered around.

Move over, Minx‘s Joyce: It’s Shelly’s turn to shine.
This week’s episode of the Starz comedy found the Prigger sisters making a trip to Joyce’s alma mater, Vassar. While Joyce nattered on in self-centered fashion about how excited she was to see her favorite professor and court her to write a blurb for her book, Shelly tried to share an update on all of the changes — read: her sexual awakening — taking place at home. But every time her older sibling attempted to steer the conversation toward the very intense upheaval in her life, Joyce found...

American Horror Stories, a streaming series spin-off from FX’s long-running horror anthology series American Horror Story, began with a seven episode first season in 2021, and an eight episode second season followed in 2022. Both of those seasons had July premiere dates, but obviously that wasn’t the case for season 3. Instead, all four episodes of American Horror Stories season 3 are set to drop on the Hulu streaming service on October 26th, and its premiere is being promoted as a special Halloween event. Actually, they’re calling it a “Huluween event”.
Created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuck, the same duo that’s responsible for American Horror Story, this series is a weekly hourlong anthology that features a different horror story, some of which call back to the original series, in each contained episode. Obviously the “weekly” part of that description is being set aside for the new season.

It was a battle of the sexes all over the place on Minx Season 2 Episode 5, which saw the backdrop of the infamous Billie Jean King versus Bobby Riggs tennis match create a real-time divide between the women and men.
While Joyce and Doug were off in Vegas trying to sell the international rights to Minx, Tina was dipping into her fun bag by hosting a party at Bottom Dollar.
And it was messy all around, as Joyce ran into some familiar faces and Tina struggled to keep things under control.
Minx Season 2 has been a mixed bag thus far, as so much of what made the first season fun seems to be missing this time around.
I can't put my finger on what's missing, but it lacks some of that charm that made the characters so endearing.
It makes sense, with Minx's success, for everyone to be engaged in a...

Though less obvious about it than some other streaming services, Peacock has been churning out some of the best TV of the year. On the heels of Emmy-nominated series “Poker Face” and “Mrs. Davis” comes the return of Craig Robinson’s comedy “Killing It.” The show stars Robinson and Claudia O’Doherty as Craig and Jillian, two underdogs who team up to kill snakes to win prize money, a real thing that happens in Florida as a means of protecting the ecosystem from invasive pythons.
In Season 2, which is now streaming, the pair’s talent for killing snakes leads to the realization of Craig’s dream: owning a saw palmetto farm, which he hopes will give him the means to become a mogul. The comedy, which hails from “Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s” Dan Goor and Luke Del Tredici, is as endearing as it is biting as it takes on issues of class...

Make no mistake: It's women who come out on top in Minx's Battle of the Sexes, which plays out in various ways across Season 2, Episode 5, "A Stately Pleasure Dome Decree."
With Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond) and Doug (Jake Johnson) heading to Las Vegas to woo international buyers, Bottom Dollar's employees turn their attention to one of the biggest cultural moments of the 1970s: the tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs, dubbed the "Battle of the Sexes" by promoters. When the male models call King's talent into question — "I could return that serve with my hands tied behind my back," one says — Shelly (Lennon Parham) challenges them to prove it. In that moment, Minx makes (likely) history with the first televised penis-tennis match, in which Dustin (Chris Riggi) shoves his junk into the bottom of a tennis racket and stands opposite Shelly on the chalk-lined court.

Things continue to change at Bottom Dollar, and the team is feeling those changes heavily.
Once Minx took off, it was obvious that dynamics and roles would change, but seeing it play out is sad for everyone involved because it just doesn't feel like that Minx of yesteryear.
Minx Season 2 Episode 4 saw Doug and Bambi's dreams dashed, Joyce doing a little shopping, and Richie and Tina questioning their worth. And if that sounds depressing, it should. And it was.
In his quest to be more than the merchandise man, Doug and Bambi teamed up on a super secret project, which was basically just a way to impress Constance and further Minx's profitability.
Doug is a businessman, and he's a hustler. The day Doug Renetti isn't conjuring up the next big thing in an attempt to get rich and feed his ego will be a cold day in hell.

[This story contains spoilers from Minx season two, episode four: “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Sexiness.”]
In Minx‘s second season, Ophelia Lovibond’s Joyce Prigger is finally wearing the pants when it comes to control over the magazine’s business and creative content decisions.
Her reunion with Jake Johnson’s publisher Doug Renetti — after his ego let her walk away from the magazine last season — has resulted in a new hierarchy at the publication (titled “Minx”). One where the magazine has returned better than ever, but with the financial backing of Elizabeth Perkins’ Constance Papadopoulos, a billionaire shipping magnate who has sparred with men for control in her own life.
And she has given Joyce majority control, allowing Minx’s co-founder and concept creator to finally envision the magazine how she wants — with fewer compromises.

Minx is making that money, honey!
And everyone was reaping the rewards on Minx Season 2 Episode 3. Though you know what they say about getting everything you ever wanted, don't you?
Yeah, me either. But maybe one day, we'll be lucky enough to find out.
It's been six months since Constance bought Bottom Dollar, and Minx returned home, and everyone was figuring out their new normal. Because suddenly, they were not a struggling magazine trying to find themselves but a bonafide hit.
For Joyce, she found everything a little bit fragile and hard to fully embrace. And that makes a ton of sense when you think about history and how it treats women.
Naturally, Joyce had her hackles up, and she didn't want to be seen as aggressive or difficult, so she refrained from pushing back against Doug and generally just avoided being alone with Simon until she realized that it wasn't doing her any favors.

Outlander‘s extra-long seventh season may feature 16 episodes, but there’s a break on the horizon as the show ends its run (for a little while) following the upcoming eighth installment, “Turning Points.” The show’s midseason finale won’t air on August 4, however, as its airdate is slated for Friday, August 11 at 8/7c. In lieu of Outlander on August 4, Starz is airing re-runs of Men in Kilts: A Roadtrip with Sam and Graham and Minx in the 8/7c hour leading up to the latest installment of the latter. (Credit: Starz) As previously reported, the remaining eight episodes yet to be aired from Season 7 will arrive sometime in 2024, but no exact date has been set at this time. The ongoing strikes could determine where the second half of the season falls on the 2024 calendar, but rest assured, the full seventh season has been filmed. Bottom Dollar sure is changing, but is it for the best?
In typical Doug fashion, he goes balls to the walls in acquiring the highly controversial film Deep Throat for its west coast premiere during Minx Season 2 Episode 2, but things spiraled pretty quickly, and it took everyone at Bottom Dollar to make sure the show went on.

At the time of its release in 1972, there was a tremendous amount of controversy surrounding it, with obscenity bans following it around the country. But while it may have courted a lot of negative attention, that attention pushed it to the forefront of conversations, making it one of the...

One of the most notorious porn movies in history provides the backdrop for this week’s Minx, which hints at the success that might await the little magazine that could. But is everyone on board with that plan?

Starz might just be the hottest ticket in town this summer. In the wake of “Minx’s” triumphant return last week comes the long-awaited second season of the professional wrestling drama “Heels,” which is quietly one of TV’s best shows.

Created by “Loki’s” Michael Waldron and with Mike O’Malley as showrunner, the series is bigger and better in Season 2, which premieres Friday at 10/9c, as it digs further into the brothers’ respective traumas and the ongoing feud between the Duffy Wrestling League (Dwl) and rival promotion Florida Wrestling Dystopia (Fwd), led by O’Malley’s Charlie Gully. Before indie sleaze, there was porno chic. And if Apple TV+’s recent “City on Fire” brought back to life the fashions and music of the early oughts’ indie sleaze heyday, then Starz’s “Minx” absolutely owns porno chic, down to the last unbuttoned button.

Minx was always a show that deserved more time.
When Max chose to cancel the series after an engaging and creative Season 1, fans were naturally annoyed because the series had only scratched the surface of the story it was telling.
Luckily, Starz swooped in to save the day and resurrect Minx from the cancelation bin. And thus, we got Minx Season 2 Episode 1 to devour and set us up for another trip back to the '70s.
One of the best things Minx decided to do upon its return was not drag out the inevitable, which was getting the whole band back together.
Quite some time had passed since Doug let Minx go, and everyone struggled a bit. None more than Doug, though, who was working overtime to keep Bottom Dollar alive.
If there is one man you want in a crisis, it's probably Doug because he's a pretty damn smooth operator.

“Joyce Prigger: World’s First Billionaire Pornographer,” reads a marquee at the top of Minx‘s Season 2 premiere. Sure, sex sells, but that seems a mite fast, no — especially given the way things stood at the close of Season 1?
As it turns out, yes. The signage, as well as a fur-clad Joyce working the red carpet at a film premiere, is part of a nightmare Doug is having at the start of the series’ sophomore run. (A run, by the way, that might not have happened had Starz not swooped in to revive the comedy after HBO Max killed it.

The cast and crew of Minx can’t be shy. The series, which started on Max and found new life on Starz for Season 2, is all about male nudity — prominently displayed penises are the norm. But at the same time, the point of the show is to not objectify or shock in those moments, but celebrate and normalize seeing the male form through a female gaze. Before even filming Season 1, series creator Ellen Rapoport sent packages to everyone on the cast to set the tone for what to expect on set.
“When we first got the [roles], Ellen sent all of us vintage Playgirl magazines,” Idara Victor told Primetimer during a press day in June, a month before SAG-AFTRA joined the WGA on strike. “It was a whole package of Playgirl magazines and it was an immediate launch into the world that we were going to be entering.”...

The comedy series "Minx" takes viewers back to the 1970s and the very beginnings of magazines centered around women's sexuality. The series follows a exuberant young feminist named Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond), who seeks to create a magazine focused on women's rights and dismantle the rigid gender norms of the 1970s. In an industry dominated by men, this proves to be difficult until she teams up with adult-magazine publisher Doug Renetti (Jake Johnson). Together, they work to create the first-ever erotic magazine targeted toward women. In season two (which airs on Starz after the show was dropped by Max), the company has to balance its early success with staying true to their roots.
"Minx" takes place during one of the most influential periods in history for feminism and sexual expression, but is it based on a true story? While "Minx" is not based on one singular story, it is inspired by real events of the 1970s.

During a star-studded promotional screening of “Deep Throat,” Joan Didion shares a prescient observation. She doesn’t want to — at least, not in that moment. All she wants is to enjoy the lavish party put on to promote Minx magazine. Check that: All she really wants is to be left in peace to use the restroom, but Joyce Prigger (Ophelia Lovibond), the editor-in-chief of Minx, can’t contain her giddy inquiries long enough for the acclaimed journalist to relieve her bladder. Joyce wants Joan to write for the magazine; something about “Deep Throat” and what it reflects about the shifting ‘70s culture, if not society at large. Joan isn’t all that interested, and instead encourages Joyce to pen the piece herself — but not before offering her reluctant, rushed assessment of the landmark porno being screened in the adjacent auditorium. “I don’t think it was their intent,” Joan says,...

In the new season of the Seventies workplace comedy Minx, Joyce Prigger’s fortunes couldn’t be more on the rise. The titular magazine, which pairs feminist journalism with full frontal male photo spreads, is thriving, turning Joyce into a minor celebrity who hobnobs with Linda Ronstadt, Gloria Steinem, and other icons of the period. When Rolling Stone comes to profile her (in an episode with more than a whiff of Almost Famous), she admits to the reporter that getting everything she wants has only left her fearing that it can all be taken away.

“Minx” is about to get freaky with it.
Season 2 of the hit workplace comedy debuts on Starz after a network switcheroo from then-hbo Max. Critically acclaimed “Minx” was canceled by now-Max after wrapping production on Season 2 late last year, with Starz later acquiring the Lionsgate-produced series.
Ophelia Lovibond is back as Minx Magazine founder Joyce, along with her publisher Doug, played by Jake Johnson. “Minx,” set in 1970s LA, centers around Joyce, an earnest young feminist who joins forces with a low-rent publisher to create the first erotic magazine for women.
In Season 2, per the official synopsis, Doug, Joyce, and the entire Bottom Dollar crew grapple with Minx’s explosive success, which takes them all to thrilling new places and brings more money, fame and temptation than anyone knows how to handle.
