As promised in January, Paramount Global is taking steps to sunset the standalone Showtime streamer before the end of 2023.
The integration of Showtime into the larger Paramount+ streaming world is one step closer to being complete as Paramount Global has seemingly eliminated the ability for new customers to sign up for the standalone subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) version of the premium cable channel. Not only is the Showtime streamer no longer available via the channel’s website, but it has also disappeared from Prime Video Channels as well.
In June, the ad-free tier of Paramount+ was rebranded Paramount+ with Showtime. At the time, Paramount said that it would be sunsetting the standalone Showtime streamer later in the year. While existing customers will still have access for the time being, the only way to sign up for the service is now via Paramount+. Save $20 Now $5.99+ / month paramountplus.com

Paramount’s streaming division is undergoing a reorganization as its product and tech teams combine.
As the teams merge into “a single streaming tech organization,” per an internal memo obtained by Deadline, which first reported the news, chief product officer Rob Gelick will exit the company after 15 years at Paramount.
In the memo, Paramount streaming president and CEO Tom Ryan spotlighted Gelick’s “critical role in making our streaming platforms and experiences what they are today” and called out his instrumental work in launching CBS All Access, rebranding Paramount+ and spearheading the integration of Showtime into Paramount+.
“For the last two years as we worked to launch and scale Paramount+ around the world while continuing to grow the global Pluto TV business. Exclusive: Paramount is restructuring its streaming operations.
Deadline understands that the company is combining its product and tech teams leading to the departure of Rob Gelick, who was Chief Product Officer and “played a critical role” of the company’s streaming services.
Insiders indicated a few others, mostly junior staffers, are exiting along with Gelick.
As part of the shift, Vibol Hou, Cto of Paramount Streaming, is expanding his role to oversee a combined group of product, program, engineering and operations teams working on Paramount+ and Pluto TV. Hou was previously Cto of Pluto before it was acquired by Viacom (now part of Paramount) in 2019.
The reorg comes after Showtime was blended with Paramount+ in a single streaming outlet. The broader corporate effort to streamline and organize multiple streaming units began to get more complex in 2019, when the Pluto acquisition happened and Viacom reunited with CBS. The latest offering combines Paramount’s expansive collection of exclusive new originals, hit series, marquee franchises and popular movies from its brands and production studios including BET, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures and the Smithsonian Channel, with newly added Showtime content.

Showtime was officially folded into Paramount+ on Tuesday, kicking off a push to expand Paramount Global’s streaming scale.
The move, which was officially announced in May, will see Showtime content, including series like Yellowjackets and Billions, as well as sports like live boxing, baked into the Paramount+ experience. As of the end of March, Paramount+ had 60 million streaming subscribers globally.
The company says the decision to fully integrate Showtime into Paramount+ (the two services were previously available in a bundled offering) was “founded in consumer insights and data.”
“Up to now, customers who have used the current Paramount+/Showtime bundle have watched 40 percent more titles than subscribers with the standalone Paramount+ plan, and they spend about 20 percent more time on Paramount+,” a spokesperson said, adding that the content from each service should “complement” the other.

Go big and go broad – that is Paramount Global’s strategy as it formally raises the curtain Tuesday on the Paramount+ With Showtime premium tier on the company’s primary streaming platform.
Paramount+ will begin offering its new top tier of service that now encompasses Showtime’s large library of content for $11.99 per month. That’s up $2 from the previous top-end Paramount+ package. But it’s less than the cost to consumers today for both services, even with Paramount’s previous discounts for those who subscribed to both services. The company’s ad-supported Paramount+ Essential Plan (without Showtime) is going up from $4.99 to $5.99 per month.
While Paramount+ and Showtime have been offered in bundles before, the formal integration of the familiar Showtime logo with its much younger streaming sibling is a milestone for the pay-tv industry. Showtime is a foundational cable TV brand that came on the scene in 1976, four years after HBO’s debut.

Tom Pelphrey ‘never had more fun playing a role’ than he did playing Don Crowder on ‘Love and Death’
If you are checking out “Love & Death” for Tom Pelphrey, there’s not a whole lot of him in the first four episodes. The actor plays Don Crowder, who seems like just another unassuming parishioner at Candy Montgomery‘s (Elizabeth Olsen) church. After she is accused of murdering her friend Betty Gore (Lily Rabe) with an ax, Candy retains Don as her defense attorney, and the last three episodes of the Max limited series are basically The Don Crowder Show. But when the role first came to him, Pelphrey was only sent the first four scripts of the David E. Kelley-penned true crime drama.
“I was told that the fifth episode starts the trial and I spoke with David about it and he said, ‘Don really becomes a central figure in the storytelling.’ And David also told me, ‘Do yourself a favor and start looking into who this...

It's something most sleep-deprived parents can relate to: their child wakes them up in the middle of the night with the insomniac claim that there's someone in their room. Thankfully, usually it's just a figment of the imagination, but for the mom and dad in Nicole Taylor Roberts' short film Go To Bed Raymond, it's a frightful fact that they'll soon come face-to-face with themselves.
Part of last year's 20th Digital Studio’s Bite Size Halloween celebration on Hulu, Go To Bed Raymond recently screened at the Overlook Film Festival in New Orleans, and I caught up with the short film's writer, filmmaker Casimir Nozkowski (whom I had the great pleasure of meeting at Overlook), to discuss collaborating with director Nicole Taylor Roberts, seeing an audience's reaction to the short film, plans for a feature-length version of Go To Bed Raymond, and more!

Paramount TV Studios and CBS Studios are the latest Hollywood entities to be hit with layoffs.
According to sources, Paramount has let go under 30 people as a result of the layoffs. Most of those are at Paramount TV Studios and CBS Studios, with some CBS employees also affected. Most of the layoffs are in the business affairs, casting, production, and legal departments.
There have also been a small number of layoffs in the Paramount+ scripted originals team, which is being folded into Paramount TV Studios.
In a memo to studio staff obtained by Variety, George Cheeks — the president and CEO of CBS and chief content officer for news and sports for Paramount+ — laid out the changes, stressing that CBS Studios and Paramount TV Studios would remain separate entities.

As the heavily fought streaming war continues, Tom Ryan, CEO of streaming at Paramount, attributes Paramount+’s success to leveraging “the whole household.”
“We set out to create a service for the whole household, so that means content for everyone [and] really getting more than one person in the household to engage with the service,” Ryan said on TheWrap’s “Tech vs Media” podcast with host Richard Wolpert, noting that the streaming services leverages all the content engines of Paramount, from sports to news to entertainment, to provide compelling content for all ages and demographics.
The streaming service also strategically utilizes Paramount brands to drive subscribers to Paramount+, including Pluto TV, which Ryan considers a “super funnel” due to its ability to funnel Pluto TV viewers to the streaming platform through premium branded content.

Three weeks after the exit of David Nevins left a hole in the oversight of Paramount+ scripted originals, the void is yet to be filled. However, chatter about a restructuring of the operations along the lines laid out in Deadline’s piece on the day of Nevins’ departure announcement has been gaining momentum.
Also growing is speculation how CBS Studios and Paramount TV Studios will align now that both are under the purview of George Cheeks, President & CEO, CBS and Cco, News & Sports, Paramount+. Paramount Global CEO Bob Bakish stressed on the day of Nevins’ exit announcement that Paramount TV Studios “will continue to operate as a studio alongside CBS Studios,” but finding synergies is inevitable in cases like this one.
We should expect a clearer picture on both Paramount+ and CBS Studios/Paramount TV Studios in next couple of weeks, and it will likely involve layoffs.

Sprawling across 12 acres on the southern edge of Palm Springs, this compound was custom built for philanthropist Robert Pond and his wife Jo in 1989. Standing head and shoulders above its Coachella Valley peers — quite literally, as it’s tucked into a hillside knoll — it comes complete with a Spanish-style mansion and detached pair of guesthouses. Altogether, the estate offers a whopping total of 10 bedrooms and 15 bathrooms, plus stables and garage space for up to 100 vehicles, and sweeping dessert and mountain vistas to boot.
Pond retired to Palm Springs after converting a Minneapolis-based family business into a $100 million global enterprise. He’s best known in the local community for helping to launch the Palm Springs Air Museum, which houses a collection of more than two dozen of his still-flying, WWII-era aircraft.
