One of the most criminally underappreciated and infrequently mentioned horror films in recent years is Conor McMahon‘s ultra-gory slasher Stitches, featuring world-renowned British standup comedian Ross Noble as a murderous kids’ birthday party clown.
In this deliriously twisted slasher comedy, vile and foul-mouthed hired clown Stitches meets an untimely end thanks to a party prank gone horribly – and hilariously – awry. Years later, he returns from the grave, ready for revenge…
Fans of Terrifier and Stephen King’s It are going to lose their minds over this clown-themed ultra-slasher that’s not only gory Af but insanely fun. Make it a priority to stream Stitches this week/end on Screambox, courtesy of our friends at MPI and Dark Sky Films!

You might think that you don’t know a lot of Irish horror movies but you either didn’t realise certain films were made in Ireland or by Irish filmmakers or you’re not watching the right films! Whether it be the comedy from 2005 Boy Eats Girl or folky Hammer movie Wake Wood or the terrifying Corin Hardy movie The Hallow or the ridiculously fun Grabbers. There’s plenty for horror fans to enjoy and the pun in the title will tell you that Let The Wrong One In is the latest horror comedy coming from Ireland.
It tells the story of Matt, a teenager who suddenly discovers his older brother, Deco, has become a vampire. He then has to decide whether to help his brother or the very, very, opposite and kill him.

Hello, dear readers! With Indie Horror Month rolling on, we have a pair of reviews featuring two great recent indie genre releases that have come out in the last few days: Kwon Oh-Seung’s South Korean thriller Midnight and the vamp-tastic Let the Wrong One In from Conor McMahon (whose Stitches has been a movie that I’ve been singing its praises for nearly a decade now).

To say less is more is an understatement of epic proportions in Conor McMahon’s latest, Let the Wrong One In.
The FrightFest strand of Glasgow Film Festival each year is always buzzing with excitement. It’s very much its own character with a distinct feeling to each screening that is totally different to the rest of the festival in general.
So it comes as no surprise that Let the Wrong One In opened the FrightFest as it seemed to hit the right notes for the crowd.
But sadly it very much feels like just a festival film.
The setting is Dublin where we follow Matt (Karl Rice) a supermarket worker confronted by his estranged brother, Deco (Eoin Duffy), who isn’t quite himself. Suffering from far more than just a hangover his new fangs and bloodlust are evidence of his recent nightclub encounter with a vampire. With it comes...

The gothic homage to European mind-bending genre from the 1960s and 1970s stars Luisa Taraz and Frederik von Lüttichau as a married couple whose relationship and sanity are tested when they spend the night at a dilapidated castle where time and space become fluid.

Considering Fantastic Fest 2021 is this writer’s first time back at an in-person festival since Sundance 2020, I’m very excited (and a teeny bit nervous) about getting to spend a whole week indulging in movies from all over the world once again. Later this week, Fantastic Fest will be kicking off on Thursday, and will continue running in-person through September 30th (and the Ff Virtual Fest will begin the very same day).
And even though I’m always pumped for Fantastic Fest’s entire genre-spanning programming slate, there are a handful of films that have already caught my eye, and I thought I’d go ahead and preview 13 titles that I’m incredibly psyched to see as a horror and sci-fi fan. Also, I just wanted to make a note: I didn’t include films that Daily Dead has already covered at previous festivals. Not that they’re not worthy,...

Conor McMahon is no stranger here in Sitges. The Irish director already succeeded in winning the audience's affection back in 2012 with Stitches, a film that managed to get as much laughter as jumps and scares. This time he comes back to Sitges with From The Dark, a film that features a more classical and straightforward approach to the horror genre but still manages to offer some fresh ideas of his own. Sarah (Niamh Algar) and Mark (Stephen Cromwell) are a couple traveling through a remote rural area in Ireland on their way to a wedding, but somewhere along the way they take a wrong turn that leaves them completely lost. Mark decides to go searching for help, but it seems the only sign of civilization around is a nearby farm. But what they don't know is that...

A young couple find car trouble in the countryside of Ireland to be the least of their worries when the sun sets and horror rises in Conor (Stitches) McMahon's From The Dark. With his latest film now available on Blu-ray, DVD, VOD, and Digital Download from Dark Sky Films, we caught up with McMahon, who talked about putting an Irish twist on creatures of the night, filming a memorable scene in which a spider walks across lead actress Niamh Algar's face, and much more.
From The Dark takes place in the fog-shrouded Irish countryside, where there are real-life backstories of preserved bodies found in the bogs. Did these stories inspire From The Dark in any way?
Conor McMahon: Well, what I was inspired by was the fact that a lot of these bodies uncovered in the bog were found tied up with fatal wounds. These people hadn’t just fallen into the bog,...

Director/writer: Conor McMahon. Cast: Niamh Algar and Stephen Cromwell. From the Dark is a horror film from Conor McMahon (Stitches). Set in the Irish countryside, this film brings a nosferatu-like creature out of the bog and a couple is terrorized throughout much of the film. Though, this viewer felt considerably less fright. Still, the film is well shot and the use of minimal lighting helped amplify some tension. From the Dark is an intimate affair. It is also a minimalist one, in that there are few characters and few settings. Also, the pacing is very slow and action scenes are repetitive. In the end, From the Dark recycles too many action scenes and the film plays out too simply. The film begins with Sarah (Niamh Algar) and Mark (Stephen Cromwell). They are a couple on holiday, in the Irish countryside. They take a wrong turn, down a winding road.

We're back with another horror round-up, this time turning our attention to the latest iZombie poster that puts a living dead spin on the ice cream cone, an unsettling new clip from Mickey Keating's Pod, and release details on Conor McMahon's From the Dark.
iZombie: "Co-created and executive produced by Rob Thomas & Diane Ruggiero-Wright (Veronica Mars), along with executive producers Danielle Stokdyk and Dan Etheridge (also of Veronica Mars), Rose McIver (Masters of Sex, Once Upon a Time) stars as Olivia “Liv” Moore, a 25-year-old medical resident on the fast track to a perfect life … until she’s turned into a zombie. Liv transfers her residency to the coroner’s office for access to the brains she must reluctantly eat, but with each brain she consumes, she inherits the corpse’s memories. With her medical examiner boss and a police detective, she now solves homicides to quiet the voices in her head.

Tagline: "Pray for Dawn." Dark Sky Films is getting set to release the darkness. From the Dark, from Irish director Conor McMahon (Stitches), follows a couple trapped in the dark. They must use light to stay away from a loathsome creature. Focusing more on horror, than comedy, this true horror feature will release April 14th, 2015, on multiple platforms. The film begins with Sarah (Niamh Algar) and Mark (Stephen Cromwell). Together, they are on holiday in the Irish countryside. Their car gives out. Then, they become lost and disoriented. Mark is injured and a creature lurks in the darkness. How will they survive the night? A trailer has not been released for the film. However, the film's official movie poster is hosted here. The graphic shows one character with a lantern; a monster looms below. Blood reds haunt the sky, with the tagline stating: "Pray for Dawn." Dawn might not be coming for this couple.

While From The Dark is most certainly an “economical” creature feature, this backcountry survival story is a generic horror watch to the core. Creator Conor McMahon is the mad genius behind one of my favorite recent horror films, the pun-tastic slasher romp Stitches, but his abandonment of jovial comedy does nothing for this straight-laced vacation-gone-wrong scenario. With the purest of intentions, but a noticeably restricting production value, McMahon is backed into a corner while bringing to life an idea that’s otherwise fresh and welcoming. Utilizing two actors, one monster and a ton of night-vision, From The Dark is able to muster little more than a shiver, pacing through the same dangerous scenarios so many films have captured in a more invigorating light.

Coming from Conor McMahon, director of cult horror movie Stitches, From The Dark, filmed on location in Co. Laois, has finished principal photography. Starring Irish talent Niamh Algar (Savage Eye), Stephen Cromwell (Love/Hate), and Gerry O'Brien (Reign of Fire), From The Dark tells the story of a young couple who encounter an ancient evil on a road trip through the Irish countryside. No word whether this will follow the humorous road taken by Stitches, but judging by the creepy first image from the movie above, featuring Algar trapped in an underground tunnel, I have a feeling McMahon might be tackling straight horror this time round. No release date has been given for From The Dark as of yet.

Today is of course St. Patrick’s Day, which essentially means that us horror fans are allowed the freedom to do two things, without incurring the wrath of judgment that doing those two things typically incurs; not only do we get to drink all day, but it’s sort of an unwritten rule that we must plop our asses on our couches and watch as many of the films in the Leprechaun franchise as we can possibly endure. A great holiday this one is, to say the least.
That said, if you’ve already seen all the Leprechaun movies, and don’t have much interest in watching them again, then have no fear, because we’ve got you covered. We came up with a list of films to accompany you on today’s couch-riding, beer-drinking escapades, all of which are worthy alternatives to the Leprechaun films.

As a society we have always had a fascination with clowns, they’re funny, crazy and sometimes just outright creepy and scary. Thanks to the Steven King novel that was made into the 1990 hit film It, long gone are the years where we could attend a child’s birthday party without wondering if the source of entertainment has a body count in their basement. My first viewing of the film Stitches was during the 2012 Mile High Horror Film Festival, of course going into the theater I was expecting a typical tale where the clown creeps me out and I have to swear off the carnival for a month or so, leaving the theater I had turned into a huge fan of the film.
Stitches is an Irish horror comedy that is brought to us by director Conor McMahon and starring Ross Noble as our pleasantly lewd but loveable clown.

Clowns are creepy, for many a person. By using a clown as the villain of the film Stitches treads on common ground in the garden of fear. Treading on common ground is something that Stitches is quite fond of. There’s almost no cliché that Stitches doesn’t hit, including an unfortunate, and unfunny, bit where an innocent animal falls to the wrath of the villain. In most horror movies sticking so close to tried and true clichés would be tiring. Stitches isn’t exactly a breath of fresh air, but manages to overcome the well-known nature of its story.
The reason for this is simple, fun and authenticity. The fun comment will make sense to anyone who has seen Stitches. There’s not a truly serious bone in the entirety of Stitches. Early on the film...

Stitches is a clown not to be fooled with. When a group of troublesome youngsters accidentally kill the clown he returns ten years later and hes prepared to extract some extremely violent revenge Stitches was burdened by heavy American expectation. Prior to official release the web was flooded with plenty of promotional material including heaps of promising footage and a couple close shots of some seemingly intense graphic gore. Stateside we carried big hope into this viewing experience. Director and cowriter Conor McMahon (who penned the tale with David OBrien) didnt disappoint. All the hype growing around Stitches is justified through and through.

You can see the DNA of several cool horror films in the recent Irish import known as Stitches. Its framework seems inspired by Prom Night (the 1980 original, not the witless remake); its tone and central conceit reminds one of the 1989 cult classic Killer Klowns from Outer Space; and the flick on the whole has a raunchy, visceral playfulness that evokes an endless variety of highly enjoyable but low-minded B-grade horror movies.
To make that a bit clearer: Conor McMahon's Stitches is not only a canny and clever homage to the slasher movie material we know and love, but it also strikes a surprisingly impressive balance between over-the-top gore explosions and nasty but highly amusing moments of comedy. Stitches is a horror flick first and foremost but it also works as a broad farce, an affectionate homage, and (at moments) a clever satire of all films in which stupid teens...
