Anthrax played their first show with original bassist Dan Lilker in 40 years on Saturday, April 13th, in Mexico City.
Lilker is filling in on Anthrax’s South American run and Spring 2024 US festival dates for Frank Bello, who is sitting out the shows due to “personal reasons.” The band kicked of the itinerary in Mexico City at Mxmf The Metal Fest, running through a 12-song set that leaned heavily on Anthrax’s most popular songs.

Lilker co-founded Anthrax in 1981 as the band’s original bassist and occasional guitarist. He co-wrote and performed on Anthrax’s 1984 debut Fistful of Metal before parting ways with Scott Ian and company. Two songs from that album were played in Mexico City: “Metal Thrashing Mad” and “Deathrider” (marking the first performance of the latter since 2014).

Las Vegas – First, for those who care, CinemaCon has witnessed the first sneak of Antoine Fuqua‘s Michael Jackson biopic “Michael” and if you’re a hardcore fan, you will be quite happy with the results so far. Jaafar Jackson is at his best on stage playing his uncle and, truth be told, his dance moves are uncanny. Nia Long has a moment as Michael’s mother Katherine Jackson and there is a brief glimpse of Colman Domingo as the notorious family patriarch Joe Jackson.

Hollywood has been obsessed with biopics for what seems like forever, but it's hard not to admit that our current film landscape is reaching critical mass with movies about famous people. I guess when they've run out of recognizable IP, they've gotta center stories about recognizable faces instead. Last year alone we saw "Maestro," "The Iron Claw," "Napoleon," "Ferrari," "Nyad," "Priscilla," and "Big George Forman," not to mention brand movies like "Blackberry," "Tetris," "Air," and "Barbie." And then, of course, there's "Oppenheimer," which not only took home seven Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director, but also became the highest-grossing biopic of all time. No shade to our boy Oppy, but it seems like a new film from Antoine Fuqua is coming for that title and the fact it's a movie about the most famous musical performer to ever live certainly gives the project a leg up on the father of the atomic bomb.

Not everyone is thrilled that there’s a biopic being made about pop sensation Michael Jackson. The director of “Leaving Neverland,” the HBO documentary that delves into accusations of Jackson’s alleged child abuse, last month accused director Antoine Fuqua’s film of being “a complete whitewash” and that it aims to “completely rewrite the allegations and dismiss them out of hand.”
However at CinemaCon on Wednesday, “Michael” producer Graham King took the stage to say that the new biopic, currently in production, “will get into all of it.”
King promised “Michael” includes 30 songs and recreations of Jackson’s performances throughout his career but also depictions of “his life outside the public eye, things many people have never seen before.”
“Everyone has an opinion on him,” King said about Mj, acknowledging the blinding accusations that surrounded his career, saying that ultimately the film is a portrait of a “complex” man,...

“Michael,” the upcoming biopic about pop legend Michael Jackson that seems guaranteed to spark conversation, debuted a dazzling and emotional first look at CinemaCon during Lionsgate’s presentation to theater owners on Thursday in Las Vegas.
The sweeping footage starts as hysterical fans scream along to Jackson as he owns the stage, flashing between performances of his biggest hits like “Man in the Mirror” and “Thriller.” The movie, which is still in production, will feature over 30 songs and recreate several performances of them, starting with Jackson 5’s classic rendition of “ABC” on “American Bandstand.”
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, “Michael” promises to be a sweeping look at the musician’s life, including the emotional toll that being a superstar took on the shy and private man behind the moonwalk. The trailer also captures Jackson as he’s stalked by adoring crowds and paparazzi.

Annie, are you okay? You look like you might faint after producer Graham King turned up at CinemaCon to surprise the crowd with a first look at Antoine Fuqua’s Michael Jackson biopic, Michael. Said to be an emotionally intense depiction of the King of Pop, Michael is positioning itself as a Huge event film. JoBlo’s editor-in-chief, Chris Bumbray, is in the crowd and says Michael will surely be controversial.
During his presentation, Graham said he knows everyone has an opinion about Michael Jackson, for good or ill. However, he did change the world of pop music forever, and his controversy made him a fascinating subject for Fuqua’s film. Graham also said Jackson was an enigma, but behind everything was a man with a very complicated, difficult life.
Michael contains 30 songs from Jackson’s legendary catalog. Next, a trailer played for the crowd, showing Jaafar Jackson as the Gloved One.

A surprise look at the Michael Jackson biopic Michael closed out Lionsgate’s panel at CinemaCon Wednesday and gave a jolt to theaters owners, who gave a warm reception.
Producer Graham King revealed the project will include more than 30 songs and teased it would be “long” in order to do the music star’s story justice.
“Behind the unrelenting scrutiny and the accusations and the blinding media spotlight, he was simply a man. A man who lived a very complicated life. The movie will get into all of it,” King said, alluding to the multiple scandals Jackson faced.
The trailer began with a look at the Jackson 5 performing “ABC” on TV, and then cut to a 1990s-era concert of Jackson performing “Man in the Mirror.” There are also images of a masked Jackson being hounded by fans and paparazzi. Jackson’s real-life nephew Jaafar Jackson stars as Michael, and...

Believe it or not, even the most beloved movies can face initial skepticism from actors. Field of Dreams, a 1989 classic, became more than just a sports movie. It delved into deeper themes like redemption, family, and the importance of pursuing dreams. Despite its universal appeal, Ray Liotta, who played the memorable character “Shoeless” Joe Jackson, wasn’t immediately sold on the story.

Dan Reed, director of the documentary Leaving Neverland, is calling the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic “a complete whitewash” of Jackson’s life.
Reed’s documentary covers the alleged sexual abuse by Jackson against two young boys, Wade Robson and James Safechuck. Reed, who says he read the script for the biopic Michael, says the film fails to address the allegations against Jackson.
In a statement, Reed said, “It’s an out-and-out attempt to completely rewrite the allegations and dismiss them out of hand, and contains complete lies. You never even see him alone with any boys when it is a matter of fact that he shared his bed with small children for many years.”
The biopic will star Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, in his acting debut. Other cast members include Colman Domingo as Jackson’s father, Joe Jackson and Miles Teller as John Branca, Jackson’s manager.

Star Thrower Entertainment partners with A24 for Eternity, which is set to be directed by David Freyne, who helmed the 2020 film Dating Amber. Olsen and Teller are also attached to the rom-com as executive producers.
The plot for the movie has not currently been revealed, but according to Deadline, “The film is said to be a romantic comedy where everyone must decide who they want to spend eternity with. A24 will handle the global release.” Freyne directs from a screenplay that was written by Pat Cunnane — a script that appeared on the 2022 Black List. As we wind down this year’s Oscar season, we at Gold Derby are already looking forward to next year’s. Clearly, we can’t get enough. But next year’s Academy Awards season could also concern this year’s as the Oscars afterglow effect could be in full force. Actors can often garner a quick follow-up nomination after breaking through in the nominations list the year prior. Eddie Redmayne accomplished this when he followed up his 2015 Best Actor win for “The Theory of Everything” with a 2016 Best Actor bid for “The Danish Girl.” Similarly, Octavia Spencer was nominated for Best Supporting Actress two years in a row — in 2017 for “Hidden Figures” and in 2018 for “The Shape of Water.” So, which of these year’s acting nominees could return next year? Let’s take a look.

Marvel Studios has a lot of course-correcting ahead of it. The company is recovering from a year of flops, and with the exception of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Loki Season 2, even their loyal fans have not received the rest of their projects well in the past year or so. Disney CEO Bob Iger has addressed that the studio has previously concentrated more on quantity instead of quality and has vowed to pull back on the amount of project output so the movies and TV shows do not suffer. He has recently even admitted that Disney has secretly “killed a few projects already that we just didn’t feel were strong enough.”
Another big looming shadow on the company is the controversial case of the once rising star, Jonathan Majors. Majors was let go from Marvel as Kang when he was found guilty in his assault case and...

Colman Domingo uses the performing arts to connect with fellow inmates in the first trailer for the A24 drama Sing Sing.
Director Greg Kwedar’s feature is set to hit theaters in July after premiering at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival. Sing Sing focuses on the real-life Rehabilitation Through the Arts (Rta) program that allows prisoners at New York’s Sing Sing Correctional Facility to produce and act in their own stage projects. The movie stars Domingo and Paul Raci alongside a cast comprised mostly of formerly incarcerated actors, many of whom previously participated in Rta.

Colman Domingo is on a remarkable run, and ahead of Oscar night and his nomination for “Rustin,” A24 has released the first trailer for his next moving drama, “Sing Sing.”
Greg Kwedar directed “Sing Sing,” which follows the true story of a leader of a theater troupe in prison and how they use acting to escape the realities of their incarceration, putting on a play all while Domingo’s character is seeking parole. The film is based on a real-life rehabilitation program, and the movie even features a cast that includes formerly incarcerated actors.
