Trains in cinema have always made for an excitable source within the realm of the comedy, drama, mystery or suspense pertaining to the plot of a particular film. The setting for the featured trains as the driving force of entertainment serves as the heart and soul of the action for the most part.
In some cases using trains as a last minute symbolic theme for a film can generate great impact that thrives and questions the motives and urgency of the characters and storyline (i.e. the climax scene in The Defiant Ones where the salt-and-pepper escaped convicts Tony Curtis and Sidney Poitier try and make a desperate dash for permanent freedom on a speeding train en route to permanent freedom). Perhaps a train could also add an extra element of action-packed excitement in a film’s conclusive ending such as the uncontrollable commuter train in Speed?

Remember Lee Daniels juxataposing a rape scene with the carving of a turkey in "Precious"? Yeah, subtlety isn't exactly the director's strong point, showy, sub-film-student directorial flourishes having tarnished his previous film, and the helmer is at it again with the uneccessary iMovie transitions in this latest clip from "The Paperboy," which showcases the stellar cast of Matthew McConaughey, Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron and David Oyelowo.
Based on a Pete Dexter novel, story follows respected journalist Ward James (McConaughey) and his brother Jack (Efron), a college dropout, as they investigate the possible wrongful conviction of a death row inmate who was found guilty of killing a sheriff. John Cusack takes on the death row inmate while Oyelowo plays a compatriot of the James brothers with Scott Glenn as their father and the Eic at their newspaper.
Directorial choices aside, the cast and story here is one definitely worth getting excited...

Eyepatches, bloody knives, a white trash channeling Nicole Kidman and a "Sling Blade"-esque John Cusack....suddenly Lee Daniels' '60s set thriller "The Paperboy" is looking a lot more interesting, and with the Cannes Film Festival stamp of approval, not only will this be one of the starriest entries this year, it could be a left field surprise.
Following the new images that appeared over the weekend, a whole new batch of pics have landed online giving a great look at everyone in the cast, and our first peek at Cusack and David Oyelowo in the film. Fresh off news confirming its appearance at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival, we now have a few new stills from Lee Daniels' "The Paperboy," his forthcoming film featuring the leading trio of Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron and Matthew McConaughey.
An adaptation of a Pete Dexter novel, the '60s-era thriller follows respected journalist Ward James (McConaughey) and his brother Jack (Efron), a college dropout, as they investigate the possible wrongful conviction of a death row inmate who was found guilty of killing a sheriff. Kidman has already been touted by producer Cassian Elwes as a performance to watch out for playing the convict's correspondent love interest who Efron's character falls for.
The film also co-stars John Cusack as the inmate; David Oyelowo as Yardley, who teams with Ward James on the investigation; and Scott Glenn as the James brothers' father and the newspaper's Editor-in-chief. And here's a fun...

It's decades since Tom Waits had a drink and his music has just got weirder and better. With his 17th album out, he heads for his local roadhouse (for coffee) and talks about songwriting, hard living and his fear of phones
"I used to think that all great recordings happened at about 3am," Tom Waits is telling me, in the conspiratorial, wasted and wounded voice that still seems made for those early hours. "So my first studio experiences, I wanted to be recording after the bars closed. I just thought that's when it all happened. And it worked for me for a while, I guess. But I don't believe that so much any more. I realise now there's more than one way to sneak up on a herd of cattle…"

Howdy fans of HBO’s recent series “Deadwood” and the Coen brothers’ True Grit! Look out! Galloping down the Blu Ray trail is the 1980 epic “oater” The Long Riders. It tells the story of several of the great outlaw gangs. You may have seen other films concerning the exploits of these desperados. Well this version is worth a look for two reasons. It’s directed by one of the great action film makers to come out of the 1980′s-Walter Hill ( The Warriors, 48 Hours ). The other reason, and the film’s big marketing point, is the casting of the brothers with real life siblings-David, Keith, and Robert Carradine play the Younger brothers, Randy and Dennis Quaid are the Miller brothers, Nicholas and Christoper Guest are the Ford brothers, and James and Stacy Keach are the James brothers. This might seem like gimmick or “stunt” casting, but the family resemblances and dynamics enhance the story.

Cleveland, Ohio’s pioneering rock vaudeville act Mushroomhead fresh off a successful summer trek with Hed(pe) and Straight Line Stitch, as well as dates on Mayhem Festival resume recording at their Filthy Hands Studio. Their 7th studio album will be completed this fall for a 2010 release via Megaforce/Sony Music. Produced by co-founding member and drummer Steve “Skinny” Felton, the band promises this will be their most ferocious and ruthless sound to date! The band recently released their “Vol. 2” DVD last year which debut at #7 in Billboard’s “Top Music Videos” chart.
In the meantime the band will debut a new song called “Your Soul Is Mine” to be released on the upcoming Saw VI movie soundtrack available everywhere on October 20. Back for the sixth installment of the Saw horror series this Halloween (in theaters October 23), moviegoers will once again cringe in their seats as blood, guts and body parts are up for grabs.

"Hello... I want to play a game," those are the immortal words Saw's sadistic purveyor of self-imposed twisted justice Jigsaw utters to his victims as they come to. And if you hear those words you're soon to find yourself in a world of hurt. Back for the sixth installment of the Saw horror series this Halloween (in theaters October 23), moviegoers will once again cringe in their seats as blood, guts and body parts are up for grabs.
In Saw VI, Special Agent Strahm is dead, and Detective Hoffman has emerged as the unchallenged successor to Jigsaw's legacy. However, when the FBI draws closer to Hoffman, he is forced to set a game into motion, and Jigsaw's grand scheme is finally understood.
What started out as a "little" indie horror movie back in 2004 has turned into a juggernaut go-for-the-throat franchise so gruesome you want to turn away, yet so compelling you just can't.
