As the water recedes in most of the Greater Houston area in the days after deadly Hurricane Harvey, some communities remain isolated by pockets of standing water.
James Brown and his wife Adrienne Carter are just one couple unable to get out of their Southeast Houston neighborhood because of two feet of water remaining on the major thoroughfare of Telephone Road.
But, as captured in a video posted by Houstons’ local CBS affiliate, Khou, the community has rallied around the neighborhood to bring much-needed food and supplies to those who are stuck.

“Wonder Woman” opened with a big bang last weekend, dominating the box office with an impressive and record-breaking $103.3 million debut, and effectively breathing new life into the faltering DC cinematic universe. But before the film even hit theaters, it began to kick up controversy when indie theater chain Alamo Drafthouse announced that they would be holding special all-female screenings of the film.
The women-only screenings were scheduled after the film’s June 2 premiere date, and according to Alamo Drafthouse’s announcement, they would be open to anyone who identified as female. The screenings would also be completely staffed by women, including the projectionists and culinary staff.

Almost instantly, there was outrage over the decision, with men angrily declaring the screenings “sexist” and discriminatory, and wondering how women would react to all-male screenings of other superhero films.

Alamo Drafthouse is now potentially facing legalities for its women-only Wonder Woman screenings.
Sigh. For some reason, the furore over Alamo Drafthouse in the Us holding a couple of women-only Wonder Woman screenings continues to rumble. We’ve thus far had crybaby men saying they’re going to attend, and no shortage of internet whining over two screenings that the people concerned had no intention of visiting. Now, though, someone is taking the challenge to the screenings legal.
A lawyer from Albany, New York, by the name of Stephen Clark, is filing an administrative charge with the Equal Employment and Fair Housing Office, the Washington Post has reported. Clark said that “it’s the principle of the thing”, telling the Post that “I’m a gay man, and I’ve studied and taught gay rights for years. Our gay bars have long said that you do not...

Wonder Woman is now in theaters, the women-only screenings at Austin’s Alamo Drafthouse will happen soon, and Austin mayor Steve Adler has already dropped a cosmic slam dunk on the people who refuse to stop complaining about it, but yet another man has bravely stepped up to drop a wholly unnecessary “well, actually” on the situation. This latest hero of maleness is Stephen Clark, a professor at Albany Law School, and he has now filed a complaint with Austin’s Equal Employment And Fair Housing Office because he believes the women-only Wonder Woman screenings are “illegal.”
This comes from The Washington Post, which says that it wasn’t the screenings themselves that convinced Clark to file his complaint, but the “snide” attitude of the Alamo Drafthouse in dealing with the misogynistic backlash—or “vibrant argument” as he described it. It was the theater’s willingness to “mock anyone who...

It turns out those all-female “Wonder Woman” screenings may not be legal. Alamo Drafthouse announced its plans to host women-only events for the new superhero drama, the first to be directed by a woman (Patty Jenkins), on May 24; many celebrated the move, while a vocal minority (mostly men) decried it as sexist. Now a lawyer in New York is filing a complaint with Austin’s Equal Employment and Fair Housing Office, telling the Austin American-Statesman that such events are “not lawful.”

“I’m a specialist in anti-discrimination law, so I was fairly certain that this was not lawful,” said Stephen Clark, an attorney and law professor from Albany. “If they were trying to do a gay-only ‘Brokeback Mountain,’ I would feel the same way.”

Content Media is introducing the comedy to buyers at Cannes.
Jeremy Irons and Jack Huston will star in the father-son buddy comedy An Actor Prepares, which Content Media is introducing to Cannes buyers this week.
Steve Clark directs the film from a screenplay he wrote with Thomas Moffett. David M. Rosenthal is producing with 3 Arts Entertainment’s Tom Lassally and Will Rowbotham.
Principal photography is scheduled to begin this autumn on the story about a philandering actor and his estranged, academic son who reconnect during a cross-country road trip to a wedding. CAA represents North American rights.
“This is pure performance and comedy gold,” said Content president of film Jamie Carmichael. “We can’t wait to see Mr Irons and Mr Huston go head to head in this wonderfully funny and emotional crowd-pleaser – and we’re thrilled to be working with Steve, David and our friends at 3 Arts.”...
