Angel Studios, still relishing the success of “Sound of Freedom,” has released a second trailer for “The Shift,” which they are touting as their first original (produced in-house) theatrical feature. Like the previous teaser, this second look chronicles a man (Kristopher Polaha) plucked from his existence and coerced into assisting “The Benefactor” in his multiverse-spanning plans. Kevin Garner just wants to get back to his wife.
The second trailer expands upon the dystopian world in which Kevin finds himself. It also hints that the Benefactor may literally be the devil himself. Our single-minded hero, years after the initial separation, travels the multiverse time shift after time shift to reunite with his wife (who is listed in his phone as “Molly my love”).
Paras Patel and Rose Reid co-star in the film. Carpenter’s Nook Lane Entertainment produced and Brock Heasley wrote and directed the feature-length adaptation of a 2010 short feature.

The faith-based indie outfit behind summer blockbuster Sound of Freedom is out with documentary After Death, which opens in over 2,600 theaters this weekend, an extremely wide release for a doc that doesn’t also happen to be a concert film.
The exploration of near-death experiences by survivors, scientists, medical professionals and authors that addresses the question of what happens when we die has pre-sold over 211,000 tickets. That’s according to the latest check of a constantly updating ticket counter on Angel’s website that estimates pre-orders based on integrations with ticketing platforms and exhibitors.
The company declined to put a dollar figure on pre-sales. “We are thrilled by audience response, craving a theatrical experience for After Death,” said Jared Geesey, distribution head of Provo, Utah-based Angel. “Life’s biggest question deserves the biggest screens and a distraction-free environment.”
Director Stephen Gray said the sudden loss of his brother-in-law at age 36 in part inspired the film.

Angel Studios, the outfit behind one of summer’s biggest hits, Sound of Freedom, will release its next film and first original, The Shift, in theaters Dec. 1.
The sci-fi thriller stars Neal McDonough, Sean Astin, Kristoffer Polaha, Liz Tabish (The Chosen), Paras Patel (The Chosen) and Rose Reid.
It was written and directed by Brock Heasley for producer Ken Carpenter’s Nook Lane Entertainment.
“The Shift is a bold project that defies labels and is unlike anything in the market,” said Jeffrey Harmon, Angel’s chief content officer. He said Heasley came up with the concept eight years ago and made a short film for $500, eventually joining forces with faith-based Angel to crowdfund and produce a feature.
“The creative ethos at Angel fostered the opportunity to shape this unique blend of sci-fi,...

Fresh off the blockbuster success of “Sound of Freedom,” Angel Studios is offering up its first original feature. “The Shift,” a multiverse thriller starring Kristoffer Polaha, Neal McDonough and Sean Astin, will open theatrically on Dec. 1
“The Shift” concerns a man (Polaha) who is plucked from his existence and coerced into assisting “The Benefactor” in his multiverse-spanning plans. However, Kevin Garner just wants to get back to his wife.
“The creative ethos at Angel fostered the opportunity to shape this unique blend of sci-fi, romance, and allegory,” producer Ken Carpenter said. “They gave us the runway to make a film that charts new territory.”

Released on the July 4 to acclaim from conservative audiences and critics, Sound of Freedom has been a box-office bash, pulling in over $150 million thanks in part to a pay-it-forward ticket promotion, as well as churches and other groups buying up blocks of seats for their members. Even while anti-trafficking groups condemned the film’s distorted depiction of child sex trafficking, fans claimed it was raising awareness of a serious issue — and it has found strong support among QAnon adherents who believe in the existence of a pedophile cabal that drinks the blood of abducted youths.

Exclusive: There was a lot of noise surrounding the red state-beloved, $163M-grossing summer surprise hit, Sound of Freedom, this morning with Newsweek reporting that one of the pic’s 6,678 crowdfunders was arrested for child kidnapping by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police.
Now just to be clear, we’re talking one person who contributed an unidentified amount of money to the $5M P&a crowdfunding campaign put together by Angel Studios. The person charged, 51-year-old Fabian Marta of Chesterfield, Missouri on July 23, was not a financier of the actual feature production. Deadline confirmed the arrest with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police per Case # 2322-CR01608.
Note child kidnapping and sex trafficking, the latter subject which Sound of Freedom focuses on, are two different types of crimes.

Angel Studios, the independent producer and distributor behind the child sex trafficking drama “Sound of Freedom,” has formally responded to reports of one of the film’s backers who in July was arrested and charged with felony child kidnapping.
The distributor’s CEO Neal Harmon on Friday in a statement to IndieWire defended the legal process by which people are allowed to publicly invest in their films but further said it hopes all perpetrators “will be brought to justice no matter who they are,” without naming the specific incident.
“Angel Studios adhered to the requirements of federal and state laws and regulations in allowing 6,678 people to invest an average of $501 each into the launch of ‘Sound of Freedom.’ Just as anyone can invest in the stock market, everyone who meets the legal criteria can invest in Angel Studios projects. One of the perks of investing was the ability to be listed in the credits,...

After AMC Theatres CEO Adam Aron had to address the viral rumor that “Sound of Freedom” audiences were being targeted by theater workers, the studio behind the film was weighed in to support the theater chain.
A number of bizarre tweets from the film’s right-wing fans — the child-trafficking drama has won vast admirers from those, like QAnon, who believe in wide-ranging pedophilia plots touching the highest echelons of American power — suggested that the air conditioning was deliberately turned off during screenings. And a viral satirical tweet suggested that AMC theaters had a conspiracy against QAnon members and were supplying suspicious liquid at the concessions stand. “Sound of Freedom” is based on the story of Operation Underground Railroad founder Tim Ballard, played by Jim Caviezel who is an active QAnon believer.
“I work at AMC and just got fired for refusing to add this liquid to a customer’s soda,...
