When the phone rang, I answered immediately. I knew Bebe Lerner, Zack Snyder’s personal publicist, was supposed to be calling me, but I wasn’t sure why. “Hi, Bebe,” I said. “Am I in trouble?” It’s a fair question. After all, my relationship to Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice has been a difficult one, and my reportage this spring set off way more controversy than I would have guessed possible. At this point, anytime I start to write about any DC film, I have a moment of hesitation. “Is this worth the hassle it will inevitably become?” One of my least favorite things about all of this has been the way all communication with Zack and Deb Snyder ceased the moment my reporting set off a ripple of bad publicity. I’ve been talking to the Snyders about their work since they were in post-production on 300, and...

Dear Readers,
Tonight brings an end to the 2010-2011 awards season, which has easily been the most exciting, exhausting, and gratifying of the 10 that I’ve covered.
It led me to the Tribeca Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival, the New York Film Festival, and the Santa Barbara International Film Festival… to the Gotham Independent Film Awards, the Critics Choice Movie Awards, and the Golden Globe Awards… to moderate Q&As that sandwiched me between some awe-inspiring duos (from Robert Duvall and Sissy Spacek to Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale to Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis); and to interview roughly 50 remarkable talents (spanning the spectrum from Claire Bloom to Janet Jackson to Justin Timberlake to the Coen brothers to Aaron Sorkin). None of this, however, would have been possible without the kindness and support of a lot of other people.
Like Oscar winners, Oscar bloggers would be terribly remiss...

The very act of Dani Weinstein (no relation to Harvey or Bob) and Sara Serlen abandoning The Weinstein Co now when the indie appears to have some decent Oscar contenders speaks volumes. (I hope ID PR makes sure those Weinstein Co checks clear before it starts repping those indie films for awards season.) Then again, TWC can't fool all of the people all the time, and its financial troubles have endlessly haunted what's left of its employees after so many layoffs and resignations. My personal kudos to both Dani and Sara: they always kept their cool in the middle of some very tough questioning from me over recent months. Their news is below. Meanwhile, ID PR keeps expanding despite the mergers and consolidations in the Hollywood PR game now. Gotta hand it to Kelly Bush: she knows how to run a business: Los Angeles/New York, September 9, 2010 – ID has...
