Led the Diamondbacks to the World Series title in 2001, and was named
MVP of the National League Championship Series.
Known as a post season menace. In 1997 Counsell was involved in the
final play of all 3 playoff series. He recorded the last out in the
field in the division series with a routine ground ball hit to him
against the Giants. in the NLCS against Atlanta, he recived the throw
from shortstop Edgar Renteria to record the final out in Game 6 to end
that series. IN the 1997 World Series, he had the game tying sacrifice
fly in the 9th inning in Game 7 to send it into extra innings against
Cleveland. He scored the series winning run in the 11th off a Renteria
single.
Played collegiately at Notre Dame.
Infielder with the Colorado Rockies (1995 & 1997[start]), Florida
Marlins (1997[end]-1999[start]), Los Angeles Dodgers (1999[end]),
Arizona Diamondbacks (2000-2003 & 2005-2006), and Milwaukee Brewers
(2004, 2007-present).
