I thought I would give myself a break from the dozens of Christmas movies this month and watch a movie I literally knew nothing about except its title. I was pretty sure it wasn’t a Christmas movie and that it was probably a low-budget genre title but this was just guess work.
I would be right though and what I got with The Darkness of the Road was a low budget sci-fi thriller horror blend that is hard to pigeon hole. We initially see a young woman, Siri, and her young daughter on the road seemingly get away from someone or something to get a fresh start somewhere else. They end up stopping at a petrol station and through a couple of incidents pick up another young woman looking to get away...

"What happened to your face?" Uncork'd Entertainment has released an official trailer for an indie horror film titled The Darkness of the Road, made by a Venezuelan filmmaker named Eduardo Rodriguez. "The Darkness of the Road will again remind you to be careful who you pick up on the road!" A single mother and her young daughter are driving on a desolate road in a moonless desert. After meeting a young hitchhiker, the mother realizes her daughter is missing. As they search for her, a merciless force begins to torment the two women. Starring Najarra Townsend and Leah Lauren, with Paris Dylan, Gwyneth Glover, and Johnny Whitworth. There is so much blue in this trailer. So many intense colors. And some creepy dude. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Eduardo Rodriguez's The Darkness of the Road, from YouTube: A single mother and her daughter are driving on a desolate road in a moonless desert.

Joey Gallo’s Texas Rangers are the team to beat in the Mlb The Show Players League.
That’s not exactly a revelation. Gallo remains the only team with an unblemished record after five nights of action, with an 8-0 mark. The slugger leads the league with 57 runs scored compared to 15 allowed. Nobody in the Players League has mashed more dingers than his 24.
But forget the numbers for a second. Enter Gallo’s victory Tuesday night over Eduardo Rodriguez and the Boston Red Sox, the only team with just one win or fewer after eight games, as proof that his Rangers are going to be a tough out for anyone.
With ace Corey Kluber on the hill and one out to start the matchup, the wheels came off. Each of the next six batters reached base, with Rodriguez knocking four doubles and a two-run blast to right-center field to take a commanding 6-0 lead.

The competition is heating up in the Mlb Players League on Mlb The Show 20. Through four nights of play, we’ve seen walk-offs, a handful of guys hitting dingers as themselves, and gratuitous celebrations. With a 29-game regular season and only eight playoff spots, nearly every game matters.
On Tuesday, 12 Major League Players will be live streaming their matchups. Headlining the evening’s tilts are 2019 All-Stars Joey Gallo (Texas Rangers) and Jeff McNeil (New York Mets). Gallo went undefeated on opening night, treating his fellow big leaguers like lambs at a slaughter. The Rangers’ slugger outscored his opponents 30-6 in a display of joystick brilliance. It’ll be tough to replicate now that the target is on his back. McNeil continues to show the baseball world that he’s the most versatile player in any game, real or virtual. He went 3-1 and sits in first place in a competitive Nl East.

On Friday, Major League Baseball and Sony’s Mlb The Show 20 kicked off its Players League with one representative from each of the 30 clubs participating in a 29-game regular season through April 28. It may be the closest thing we’ll get to real baseball for the foreseeable future. For fans depraved of America’s Pastime, it’s hard to deny this format was a fun way to pass the time at a moment when we could all use an escape from the real world. Night one featured Joey Gallo (Texas Rangers), Amir Garrett (Cincinnati Reds), Blake Snell (Tampa Bay Rays), Lance McCullers (Houston Astros), Trevor May (Minnesota Twins), and Eduardo Rodriguez (Boston Red Sox). It also featured big dingers, a safety squeeze, trash talk, and rage reactions, all things we love.
Where To Watch Mlb The Show Players League
The Players League streams at 9 p.m. each night on the following channels per Mlb.

For the baseball world, The Show must go on.
No, ballplayers don’t appear to be returning to the diamond any time soon. Instead, Major League Baseball has teamed with the Mlb Players Association and Sony Interactive Entertainment to launch a first-of-its-kind Mlb The Show 20 Players League, Mlb announced Friday morning. One player representative from all 30 Mlb clubs will participate in the league, with a 29-game regular season beginning Friday night and running through April 28, according to reports.
Using the newly-released Mlb The Show 20, each team will face the other once in games set for three innings in length, rather than the typical nine. Players would play multiple games every day or two. The eight-team postseason is scheduled to begin April 30, according to reports, featuring a best-of-three format in the quarterfinals and semifinals. The World Series will be a best-of-five setup on May 2, according to Sony.

Mookie Betts, the Boston Red Sox outfielder and reigning American League most valuable player, will skip visiting the White House in May with his teammates.
The decision comes just days after the National Basketball Association’s Golden State Warriors skipped a White House visit for the second year in a row. The Warriors instead visited with former President Barack Obama.
Betts told the Boston Globe he will not be making the trip, but declined to elaborate on his reasons. “I won’t be going there,” he said. “I decided not to.” The outfielder announced the decision while talking at the New York Baseball Writers’ Association of America dinner on Saturday night.
Other Red Sox players and manager Alex Cora are reported to be considering skipping the trip, including Rafael Devers, Xander Bogaerts, and Eduardo Rodriguez.

Like all superheroes (or anyone else who uses a secret identity), there came a moment when someone finally cracked the code and published my real name. To be fair, my identity was a pretty poorly-kept secret by that point. The first time I went to an actual press event, I used my real name, and anytime I met someone, I used my real name. "Moriarty" was a fun identity to slip into, and especially in the early days of the site, we played up the mythology of things. My friends all got their own spy names and would show up in the reports in the form of Henchman Mongo and Segue Zagnut and Harry Lime and more. From my end, it was silly and fun, and not something to be taken seriously. But when Film Threat ran a fairly vicious hit piece on Harry, I was also a target, and...

Originally lensed in 1985, Fright Night, from writer/director Tom Holland (Child’s Play), went on to become a favourite amongst my generation and to this day is still held in very warm regard. The sequel, which followed in 1987, wasn’t as successful as the original, yet remains a much sought after title on DVD and Blu-ray. The original film was remade in 2011 starring Colin Farrell in the vampire role and Fright Night 2: New Blood is a sequel to that remake. With me so far?
Well now it gets a little confusing. This iteration of Fright Night 2 is a remake of the Original Fright Night, not the sequel or the remake, which also throws the legend of Countess Elizabeth Bathory into the mix. Still with me?

As usual, let's begin with a brief history lesson.
Fright Night (1985) arrives from Columbia Pictures and writer/director Tom Holland (he'd later go on to direct Child's Play, The Temp, and Thinner), becomes a modest box office hit, and goes on to become a nostalgic favorite among horror fans of a certain age. (Like me.) Essentially a teenager vs. vampire rendition of Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window, the original Fright Night was about a kid who discovers that his new neighbor is a murderous bloodsucker -- but of course nobody believes him. Fright Night Part 2 (1987) reunited the kid (William Ragsdale) and the reluctant hero (Roddy McDowall) from the first movie, but the plot (about a female vampire with a serious grudge) wasn't nearly as novel. Worth a look for fans of the original Fright Night, but certainly nothing too memorable. Fright Night (2011) brought a very amusing Colin Farrell to...

The “Fright Night” franchise is not dead yet. Not at all.
The somewhat sequel “Fright Night 2: New Blood” is released today on DVD and Blu-ray. In this movie, actress Jamie Murray plays the vampire seductress Gerri who preys over Charley.
This sequel is kind of a remake of the original movie re-introducing the main fan favorite characters of Charley Brewster, Peter Vincent, Ed Bates and Amy Peterson. And the primary adversary is a female vampire instead of suspicious vampire neighbor Jerry.
The horror comedy film introduces a new cast to star alongside Murray with Will Payne, Sean Power, Sacha Parkinson and Chris Waller.

Here’s the synopsis: By day Gerri Dandridge is a sexy professor, but by night she transforms into a real-life vampire with an unquenchable thirst for human blood. So when a group of high school students travel abroad to study in Romania, they find themselves...

This has been quite a year for Eduardo Rodriguez. The man has been toiling in the Hollywood trenches for years, ever since making Curandero. That film, which was shepherded by Robert Rodriguez, unfortunately sat on a shelf awaiting release while Eduardo jumped into television projects like Fear Itself. This year, however, saw the release of not just Curandero (subtitled "Dawn of the Demon") but Stash House, starring Dolf Lundgren. And, next week, comes Eduardo's Fright Night 2: The New Blood. Three films in one year? Not too shabby.
This new installment in the Fright Night legacy is essentially a reboot. A fresh start. "New Blood" as the title says. Although the character names are the same, the "sequel" carries no connection to the original films or the remake that came out in 2011. Eduardo was literally able to start over and put his take on the tale of a young...

After the jump, check out a new exclusive pic from Fright Night 2: New Blood, directed by Eduardo Rodriguez and hitting DVD/Blu-ray on October 1st.
The image features star Jaime Murray as "Gerri" - unfortunately for this beauty, she's been stabbed in the face with a crucifix.
The new film is a bit of a "do over" introducing viewers to Charlie, a young man on a school trip to Romania with his girlfriend Amy and his pal "Evil" Ed. While there, they meet the aforementioned Gerri, a professor by night and a vampire by, er, night...

"Welcome to Fright Night for real!"
I thought director Craig Gillespie‘s remake of Fright Night was fantastic. I really enjoyed it, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Fox decided to make a sequel to it, but this one is going straight to Blu-ray and DVD, and it looks like the level of quality that you would see for those kinds of films. In fact, the movie just looks like a remake of Gillespie's 2011 film, only not as good. This time around they decided to sex it up with a female villain vampire that bathes in blood. Here's the synopsis for Fright Night 2: New Blood:
By day Gerri Dandridge (Jaime Murray) is a sexy professor, but by night she transforms into a real-life vampire with an unquenchable thirst for human blood. So when a group of high school students travel abroad to study in Romania,...

More visuals have been revealed for Eduardo Rodriguez's Fright Night 2: New Blood. The character Gerri (Jaime Murray), a vampire and teacher, is shown in this unrated clip. Fright Night 2: New Blood will move straight-to-video October 1st, through 20th Century Fox. Fans of vampires and indie films can have a look at the unrated trailer for the feature below. Release Date: October 1st, 2013 (DVD, Blu-Ray). Director: Eduardo Rodriguez. Writer: Matt Venne. Cast: Will Payne, Jaime Murray, Sean Power, Sacha Parkinson and Chris Waller. Maybe it’s just me and my undying appreciation for all things Jaime Murray, but this trailer for “El Gringo” and “Safe House” director Eduardo Rodriguez’s direct-to-dvd “Fright Night 2″ actually looks better than the first big-budget reboot starring Colin Farrell and Anton Yelchin. Of course, it could just be Jaime Murray vamping it up. Naked. And covered in blood for most of the movie. She sure has Colin Farrell beat, that’s fo sho. “Fright Night 2″ is not really a sequel to the first remake, it’s basically the same movie, with most of the same characters, but transplanted into a new locale and, well, remade … again? I dunno, I guess they figured the formula kind of worked, so why do a sequel, directly or indirectly, when you can just, uh, do it all over again? Yeah, I have no idea what the thinking behind this one was,...

The trailer for Fright Night 2: New Blood has officially been released by Fox Home Entertainment (after being bootlegged not long ago). Eduardo Rodriguez directed the remake/sequel arriving on DVD and Blu-ray October 1st.
When high school student Charlie attends a study abroad program with his horror obsessed friend “Evil” Ed and ex-girlfriend Amy in Romania, he soon discovers their young attractive professor Gerri (Jaime Murray) is a real life vampire. Too bad no one believes him. In fact, Evil Ed finds it amusing and it only feeds his vampire obsession. When Gerri turns Ed, Charlie seeks out Peter Vincent, the infamous vampire hunter (well, he plays one on TV) who is in Romania filming his show “Fright Night,” to teach him how to take down Gerri before she gets to Amy, who’s blood will cure Gerri of spending eternity as a vampire.

Today's MPAA ratings bulletin is a little busier than some of those we've seen recently and even includes an R-rating for Alexander Payne's Nebraska which Paramount will be appealing. If I remember correctly there are a couple uses of the word "f**k" but nothing else. If I had a guess the R-rating for some language will soon be changed to a PG-13 rating for some strong language. We wait patiently... I posted a trailer only an hour or so ago for the Vince Vaughn dramedy Delivery Man and now it has a PG-13 rating, Ryan Coogler's excellent Fruitvale Station starring Michael B. Jordan received a not-so-surprising R-rating and the Selena Gomez and Ethan Hawke thriller Getaway received a PG-13. Stuart Beattie's graphic novel adaptation I, Frankenstein starring Aaron Eckhart will be rated PG-13 when it arrives January 2014 and August opener The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones...

Curandero begins with grisly flashes of Satan worshippers dancing amidst bloody entrails and doesnt relent. From Carlos horrific visions to vicious murder scenes Director Eduardo Rodriguez delights horror fans with unflinching graphic depictions. Yet he executes the action in such a way so that the grotesque imagery does not disgust but frighten and (at times) shock. Rodriguez adroitly balances the gore with appearance and action that unite to intensify the unexpected scares. The result is a chilling effect reminiscent of The Exorcist (1973) but contorted and enhanced enough to render Rodriguezs style goreifficly unique in its own right.

Starring the original Mariachi himself, Carlos Gallardo, Curandero is from a story by Robert Rodriguez, a filmmaker I used to admire greatly but haven't had much use for in recent years. A very grindhouse-y flick, there's tons of gore, very little tension and not much in the way of character development. A curandero, for those interested, is like a healer or witch doctor.
Director Eduardo Rodriguez, rumored to be attached to the sequel to the remake of Fright Night, directed this movie back in 2005. But it's only now getting a stateside release? That doesn't bode well for the confidence of the Weinsteins in the flick, huh? Eduardo Rodriguez' sensibilities seem to lie more in tune with Rob Zombie's than Robert Rodriguez's. Not a bad thing, just, when it comes to slower-paced horror, the breakneck silliness of Zombie's direction doesn't make much sense.

With Eduardo Rodriguez in the director's chair and gorgeous Brit actress Jaime Murray -below ('Hustle', 'Spartacus: Gods of the Arena', 'Dexter') already lined up to play the main vamp this time around it seems that 'Fright Night 2' is definitely going to happen. Bloody Disgusting is reporting the upcoming sequel to the remake of Fright Night has cast Jaime Murray (best known as the unpredictable firestarter Lila Tournay in Dexter's second season) as its villain.
