Amid a widespread executive exodus, Warner Bros. Discovery’s international boss Gerhard Zeiler sent out a memo to the staff today laying out the company’s new global leadership structure.
Following France boss Pierre Branco’s exit earlier this week, Wbd has tapped Clément Schwebig to oversee France, Benelux, Afrique, Allemagne, Autriche and Suisse. James Gibbons, meanwhile, will now handle Asia and Western Pacific which will be united into a single Apac region. As part of the shuffle, Schwebig and Gibbons will essentially see their scope expanded with more territories to handle.
Latin America and Poland will continue to be led by Fernando Medin and Kasia Kieli, respectively. The rest of the structure will be unchanged.

Don’t expect Warner Bros. Discovery’s French original programming team to follow Netflix and Amazon Prime Video’s trail and chase teen audiences.
Vera Peltekian, VP and head of streaming original production for the banner, says the standalone service’s bow in France “is on the roadmap” with a raft of “bold and director-driven Max originals targeting adult audiences in line with what the HBO brand is known for.”
Peltekian, who previously worked 15 years at Canal + and played a major role in the pay TV group’s critically acclaimed series such as “The Returned,” “Spiral” and “Savages,” revealed that Warner Bros. Antony Root, the long-serving HBO Max Emea original programming chief, is to exit his role at Warner Bros. Discovery (Wbd) and retire from the industry.
Root will leave his post at the end of March ahead of the launch of the merged HBO Max and Discovery+ streaming service.
Root has spent 11 years as Executive Vice President of HBO Europe and later HBO Max Emea after joining from Sony Pictures Television.
Last year, his originals team were halted in their tracks when Wbd decided HBO Max would stop ordering shows in most of Europe – a decision one source described as “the end of an era.”
Most of Root’s European commissioning and production team were later let go, as Deadline revealed in August, but he stayed on. Deadline hears he has been travelling extensively in recent months to visit the remaining local staff. Wbd did not discuss succession plans.

Gerhard Zeiler has talked up the “development of franchises” including Harry Potter, DC and Game of Thrones as the key priority for the merged entity six months after he was handed the top international role.
Delivering the Rts London keynote, Zeiler said “we will focus probably more on the development of franchises” and flagged the major tentpoles that he sees as future cashcows.
He spoke confidently of an improvement in cinema audiences now that the world is emerging from the pandemic, although conceding, “less movies are successful but the big ones have much better success than anyone forecasted.”
“Everyone who believed cinema is dead has been proven wrong and will be proved wrong in the future,” he added. “The theatrical business is here to stay although of course the pandemic changed things.”

Jeff Bezos made a surprise appearance at The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power global premiere last night, joking about his notes to showrunners and son’s “Don’t f*ck it up” advice as the battle of the tentpole prequels between Amazon Prime Video and HBO’s House of the Dragon hots up.
Demonstrating Lord of the Rings’ importance to the overall Amazon business, the Founder and Executive Chairman made the trip to the global premiere in London’s Leicester Square for the most expensive TV show of all time, alongside Amazon Studios boss Jennifer Salke, showrunners Patrick McKay and J.D. Job cuts are expected at HBO Max Europe following a major strategic review that will see development of local originals halted in the Nordics and Central Europe.
The move comes as the Warner Bros. Discovery merger gathers pace and the outfit seeks £3B worth of savings within two years, with HBO Max set to be combined with Discovery+.
Deadline understands jobs at HBO Max Europe are at risk following the review, which will also see nascent development activities in the Netherlands and Turkey halted after less than a year. The details regarding potential redundancies are still being ironed out.
Shows in production or post-production in the Nordics, Central Europe and the Netherlands are being reviewed. Hits to have already emerged from the region include the likes of Denmark’s Kamikaze (pictured) and Sweden’s Lust.
Of the territories in which HBO Max has a footprint, only Spain and France are not impacted by the review.

Warner Bros. Discovery’s post-merger growing pains and an eye-watering 3 billion cost-savings target are hitting its programming strategy in Europe, Variety can reveal.
As the media conglomerate looks to recalibrate its streaming priorities, it will no longer produce originals for HBO Max in the Nordics, Central Europe, the Netherlands and Turkey, and will also remove some content from its platform in order to free up licensing deals elsewhere.
In a statement shared with Variety, a spokesperson for Warner Bros. Discovery said:
“As we continue to work on combining HBO Max and discovery+ into one global streaming service showcasing the breadth of content across Warner Bros. Discovery, we are reviewing our current content proposition on the existing services. As part of this process, we have decided to remove a limited amount of original programming from HBO Max, as well as ceasing our original programming efforts for HBO Max in the Nordics and Central Europe.

Warner Bros. Discovery has set out its India, Southeast Asia and Korea (Inseak) leadership team under Clement Schwebig, as president and managing director.
The Thursday announcement follows just hours after a similar rejig of the Emea leadership team under Priya Dogra.
Both Schwebig and Dogra report to Gerhard Zeiler, president of international for the merged company. Zeiler, a former WarnerMedia executive, now oversees the global channels business with a “dotted line” to international streaming lead Jb Perrette, a Discovery veteran. Zeiler previously held the same role for WarnerMedia, and now also has responsibility for Discovery’s international footprint.
As with the Emea revamp, there is a strong emphasis on territory management. “Our region will be structured with a territory focused approach to be more agile and locally relevant,” Schwebig said in an internal note. “At the same time, we will leverage our scale across the business and region to provide deeper expertise and greater efficiency.
