Hello, everyone! August 23rd is a quiet day for horror and sci-fi home media releases, but that doesn’t mean that this week’s offerings aren’t pretty darn great all the same. Scream Factory has put together a killer Collector’s Edition 4K release for Neil Marshall’s Dog Soldiers and Kino Lorber has put together reissues of their Blu-ray box sets for seasons one and two of The Outer Limits, which genre fans will definitely want to pick up.
Cheers!

“Dog Soldiers” (2002)
Directed By: Neil Marshall
Written By: Neil Marshall
Starring: Sean Pertwee (Sgt. Harry Wells), Kevin McKidd (Pvt. Cooper), Emma Cleasby (Megan), Liam Cunningham (Capt. Ryan), Thomas Lockyer (Cpl. Bruce Campbell), Darren Morfitt (‘Spoon’ Witherspoon), Chris Robson(Pvt. Joe Kirkley), Leslie Simpson (Pvt. Terry Milburn), Tina Landini (Camper), Craig Conway (Camper), Vilrikke’s Acer (Sam the Dog), Bryn Walters (Werewolf), Ben Wright (Werewolf), Brian Claxton Payne (Werewolf)
Werewolf movies can truly be hits and misses. They are like slasher movies because you feel like you are watching the same plot in every movie that is made about them. This movie is unique as it breaks apart from the traditional format for werewolves in the conventional sense. Thankfully, it is very difficult to get bored during this British horror film!

Karl Siemon is a Dp you've almost heard of thanks to a "little" movie called Saw, but if you're a serious cult film fan, you should know him well thanks to an Aussie horror film entitled Razor Eaters (2003).
Now Siemon is handling the cinematography for actor/director Leslie Simpson's first-time outing, Grandpa, and the results are chilling. Dread Central recently had the opportunity to do an email interview with the in-demand Dp while he was shooting a film in Sydney, Australia, and the results are both fascinating and funny.
Dread Central: Hello, Karl. and thank you for taking time to chat with us about Leslie Simpson's short film Grandpa. First off, would you mind telling us a bit about yourself? Your background, where you received your film training, etc.?
Karl Siemon: Cinematography is everything I love about the arts put together: writing, painting, light, color, drama, music.

On the third week of January in my wonderful city of Melbourne, Australia I got to experience my very first Horror Convention, Oz Horror Con 2013. It may very well have been the first of it’s kind for the country, at least in recent years. Horror for some reason is a genre that seems to have very little outlets here, it has always been a task to find like-minded people and find places that seem to know their stuff.
It was a great pleasure to attend this Convention, I felt at home there, alongside other fans of horror and stalls where I could look through DVDs of my below genre as well as stalls of books and all sorts of memorabilia.
The event was held at a really cool place called Donkey Wheel House, which had the perfect atmosphere for a horror event. The stalls...

Although set under the Australian desert, it was entirely filmed at Docklands Studios Melbourne with private financing.

Adam Krajczynski. Remember that name as I am sure you will see it again; his talents as a cinematographer cannot go unrecognized. Shooting the little-seen (but that will hopefully be changing soon) film A Reckoning on an unbelievably tiny budget, Krajczynski’s vision is right there on the screen – beautiful, eerie, stunning and haunting.
Dread Central recently had the opportunity to interview the well-spoken and charming Dop while he was working in Spain. And he had plenty to say about cinematography and the, at times, hilarious making of A Reckoning (review here).

Dread Central recently had the opportunity to interview the well-spoken and charming Dop while he was working in Spain. And he had plenty to say about cinematography and the, at times, hilarious making of A Reckoning (review here).
DC: Hello, Adam, and thank you for taking time out of your schedule to speak with Dread Central about your stunning work in Andrew Barker's film A Reckoning.
How about a little information about yourself first? Where are you from? Where did you attend school?

Horror fans everywhere should recognize the name “Leslie Simpson” from such favorites as Dog Soldiers, where he played Pvt. Terry Milburn, The Descent where he played one of the horrific Crawlers and Doomsday where he was Carpenter, one of the soldiers that were to escort heroine Eden Sinclair into the “Hot Zone”.
Well, forget about those excellent performances because Simpson has gone one Much better in his role as The Lone Man in writer/director Ad Barker’s A Reckoning (aka Straw Man). Whether the film is post-apocalyptic or the tale of a man who has taken himself out of society or simply the story of a man going insane, Simpson’s performance is nothing short of breath-taking. And the sad thing is is that so very few people have seen this film, to date. Hopefully That oversight is being corrected and quickly because A Reckoning Needs to be seen.

Writer/director Andrew Barker is a man with a mission. For his first feature film, the stunning and gut-wrenching A Reckoning (review here), his mission is to get the film out to the fans who so desperately want to see this movie and for good reason - it's excellent!
From the seeds of an encounter with an abandoned Raf base in Nottingham, England, Barker came up with the story of a lone man (Leslie Simpson) and the questions people will be discussing and debating long after the film is over: Is this a post-apocalyptic film? Has The Man removed himself from society and now prefers to live like a hermit? Or is The Man simply insane?
Dread Central recently interviewed this amazing director to try and get some more insight into his polarizing film which very few have seen…yet.

I first became acquainted with Axelle Carolyn when she authored an article in Fangoria magazine and I was struck by her unusual name. At first I thought she had just flipped her names (I wasn’t aware at the time that “Axelle” is a Belgian/French female given name) and was really Carolyn Axelle. But as time went by and I actually worked with Axelle on several projects (and discovered that “Axelle” is a real girl’s name), I became one of her biggest fans. She has done it all and she’s only 30 years old – respected journalist, talented actor, stunning model and now she is a published horror fiction author. I want to be her when I grow up.
Strangely, for all the collaborations she and I have worked on, I have never spoken to her. Everything via e-mail or messaging. The same now with my first in-depth interview...

Page 2 is a compilation of stories and news tidbits, which for whatever reason, didn't make the front page of /Film. After the jump we've included 15 different items, fun images, videos, casting tidbits, articles of interest and more. It's like a mystery grab bag of movie web related goodness. British filmmaker Antony Lane is taking 'independent' filmmaking in a very literal way, by attempting to independently raise a minimum of £100,000 (approximately Us$225,000) through donations over the internet. Invasion Of The Not Quite Dead already has the backing of some of horror's most iconic names (Ken Russell, Kevin Pollak, Tom Savini and Leslie Simpson among others). Things are off to a good start for Lane with a spot in a BBC documentary; a Guinness World Record attempt at a zombie gathering; and legions of ravenous fans already under his belt. We talk to Lane about his unique approach to filmmaking.
