Doing its best on a budget, you can’t help but sympathise with this straight-to-streamer that’s so schlocky it’s … sweet
Let’s be clear: this second world war action movie is cliched, wooden and excessively long. Nevertheless, you’ve got to give its director, producer, co-writer and supporting player Michael B Chait and his team a little credit for pulling together what must have been a reasonably expensive shoot for an independent film. You’ve got your aerial dogfights, your period production design (albeit often camouflaged in darkness) and lashings of blanks, squibs and controlled explosive material to make for a very noisy, if tediously protracted, series of climaxes. There are many more egregious wastes of money out there in the world.
At least this one, for all its flaws and completely unironic macho posturing, will please some viewers with its many shots of muscled, sweaty soldiers in vests.

Grindstone Entertainment Group, a division of Lionsgate, has acquired the North American rights to the upcoming World War II action-thriller “Wolf Hound.” The movie will see a multi-platform release this summer.
“Wolf Hound” marks the feature film directorial debut of Michael B. Chait and boasts a screenplay by co-producer Timothy Ritchey and a story by Chait. Emmy Award-winning commercial producer Sue Witham produced the movie along with Chait for his production company Tmu Pictures.
The film is inspired by the real-life Nazi special operations unit Kg 200 that shot down, repaired and flew Allied aircraft as Trojan horses. “Wolf Hound” takes place in 1944 Nazi-occupied France and stars James Maslow (“Big Time Rush”) as Captain David Holden, a Jewish American fighter pilot, and Trevor Donovan (“90210”) as Nazi ace Major Erich Roth. Ambushed behind enemy lines, Holden must rescue a captured B-17 Flying Fortress bomber crew, evade the enemy stalking him at every...

Actor Jim Parsons may have wanted to move beyond The Big Bang Theory given the stunning announcement that he turned down millions of dollars to sign up for Season 13, but his passion for television obviously hasn't left him. It seems that he is currently developing a new multi-camera sitcom (which is the kind shot in front of a live audience) called The Inn Crowd. Designed for NBC, the focus of the show will be on a gay couple running a small town resort, and it's inspired by an article in The New Yorker written by Tony Horwitz. That piece discussed the controversy surrounding the Inn at Little Washington — owned by Patrick O'Connell and Reinhardt Lunch — in Rappahannock County, Va. According to comingsoon.net, "while their inn attracted big-name celebrities, many opposed the duo's ambitious expansion plans. Like the article, The Inn Crowd will also look at how the gay couple's...

NBC has put in development The Inn Crowd, a multi-camera comedy from Young & Hungry creator David Holden, Jim Parsons and Todd Spiewak’s That’s Wonderful Productions and Warner Bros. TV where the company is based.
Written by Holden, The Inn Crowd is inspired by Tony Horwitz’s 1999 New Yorker article and centers around a gay couple who divide a small town when they open a very successful inn.
Holden executive produces alongside Parsons and Spiewak via their That’s Wonderful Productions. Eric Norsoph, head of development and production for That’s Wonderful, will oversee the project for the company.

Freeform announced in March that the recently-concluded fifth season of Young & Hungry would be the popular multi-camera comedy series’ last, and that a finale movie was in the works to wrap up loose ends, but those plans have been scrapped. Star Emily Osment tweeted the news late last night. Freeform confirmed to Deadline Friday that the network is not moving forward with the movie, but revealed no further details.
“It breaks my heart to tell you that in addition to @FreeformTV not giving our Young & Hungry audience the ending our show deserved, they have Also decided to not go forward with a full length film,” Osment tweeted. “From me and my obvious future tv hubby @sadowski23 we love you and we’re sorry.”
The Season 5 finale ended with Gabi (Osment) proposing to Josh and asking him to move with her to Seattle, where she’ll be working under Iron Chef’s Alex Guarnaschelli.

If you just finished watching the Young & Hungry series finale and you’re wondering, “Where the rest of it?” you’re not alone.
“We kind of left things on a big cliffhanger, huh?” star Emily Osment tells TVLine of Wednesday’s episode, which concluded with Gabi proposing to Josh and asking him to move with her to Seattle, where she’ll be working under Iron Chef‘s Alex Guarnaschelli.
Ending the finale on a cliffhanger seemed like a sensible move when the episode was filmed; Osment says the cast believed “without a doubt” that a sixth season would be ordered.

Freeform has had its fill of Young & Hungry — the sitcom’s current fifth season will indeed be its last. But (and this is a pretty big “but”) the cabler announced on Thursday that it is developing a two-hour movie that will “further the adventures of Gabi, Josh and their circle of friends.”

Fans of "Beverly Hills, 90210" mourning the loss of SoapNet from their cable systems got a nice consolation prize Monday (Jan. 6): ABC Family has greenlit "Mystery Girls," a comedy series starring "90210" veterans Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling.
The show is one of two ABC Family ordered to series on Monday. The other is "Young & Hungry," which stars Emily Osment ("Hannah Montana") as a food blogger who lands a job as personal chef to a hotshot tech entrepreneur (Jonathan Sadowski). Both are set to begin production in the coming weeks and premiere later in the year.
"Mystery Girls" stars Garth and Spelling as the former stars of a TV detective show. Garth's Charlie Contour has left Hollywood, while Spelling's Holly Hamilton is looking for a way back into showbiz. They're brought back together when a witness to a real-life crime (Miguel Pinzon) -- and superfan of their show (also called "Mystery Girls...

Exclusive: High School Musical alumna Ashley Tisdale has sold a semi-autobiographical comedy project to ABC that will be executive produced by Warren Littlefield. Tisdale is set to star in and co-executive produce the multi-camera project, titled Under Construction, which is inspired by her life and centers on a young woman whose independence is put on hold when she is forced to move back home while her father renovates her recently purchased “money pit” along with her life. David Holden (Accidentally On Purpose) will write the script and co-executive produce. Also co-executive producing are Tisdale and her partner Jessica Rhoades through their Blondie Girl Prods. and Tom Forman for RelativityREAL where Blondie Girl has a development deal. Through that deal, Blondie Girl has several other projects in the works, including unscripted series Miss Advised, in production at Bravo. This marks a return to the multi-camera comedy genre for Tisdale, who started...

ABC has picked up new single-camera comedy pilot The Singles. The project, created by Accidentally on Purpose scribe David Holden, is loosely based on the writer's own life. After returning home from the Peace Corp, the newly-single Holden discovered that his mother and father had divorced, his sister was jilted at the altar and his brother was still struggling to find the right woman. Friends and neighbours began to refer to the Holdens as 'the Singles', inspiring the title of the new comedy. In addition to his Accidentally (more)...

Two single-camera projects, one from Neal Moritz's Original Film and one from Shawn Levy and Marty Adelstein's 21 Laps/Adelstein Prods., landed sales after getting interest from multiple networks. Original Film's The Singles went to ABC with penalty attached. Written/co-executive produced by David Holden (Accidentally on Purpose), the comedy/dating show is based on David Holden's life experiences when his entire family were all single...all at the same time. He returned home from the Peace Corp, and found out his mom and dad got divorced, his sister was left at the altar, his brother was focused on being alternative and couldn't keep a girl, and he himself, a gay man in his mid-20s was trying to find the perfect man. Instead of the family being known as the Holdens, people ended up calling them "The Singles." Sony TV is producing with Moritz and Vivian Cannon...

Excessively moody and mired in muddy storytelling overall, writer-director Eric Drilling's feature debut is based on his play of the same name about two brothers caught in the stormy aftermath of patricide, committed by the eldest against their violent sire.
"River Red" stars Tom Everett Scott ("An American Werewolf in Paris") as insecure, repressed Dave Holden, a New Hampshire guy going nowhere who becomes a killer and masked bandit to protect his younger Brother Tom (David Moscow). But starting with the shaky performances, Drilling's downer drama is not memorably involving, and boxoffice potential for the Castle Hill limited release is light.
Scott is appropriately sweaty and nervous, with an unruly crop of hair and twitchy body -- he might have made a good Norman Bates. His character is able to instantly concoct a plan to have minor Tom serve the time for Dave's impulsive fatal stabbing of their punching pop (Denis O'Hare).
But after that fateful event, given a "second chance," Dave is apparently rendered dumb by his guilt and paranoia. While Tom has a bumpy ride in the pokey, Dave hits the sauce and holds up gas stations to pay off a stack of bills left by Dad. He has enough cash to also date a nice girl (Cara Buono), who doesn't suspect he's turning into his own worse nightmare.
Tom gets the picture soon enough when he's released (after years?) and sees what a cold, self-destructive thing Dave has become. Meanwhile, it's hard to believe Dave could get away with his cover story of a rich relative leaving a large inheritance.
While it strives to be a probing character study, "River Red" is all but swamped by Drilling's fudging on details, while the filmmaker relies far too much on Johnny Hickman's oppressive score to underline every portentous moment and simmering emotion.
