After considerable deliberation and one year at the University of Utrecht studying Theatre, Film & Television sciences, she eventually applied at the prestigious Dutch Film & Televison Acadamy in Amsterdam to study Production Design. In her final year at the Academy, she and her close friend Joyce van Diepen even did the Art Direction for "De Fuke", a Dutch feature about World War II. Since graduating she worked for both television and film, earning 'her' first award, a Golden Calf, with the entire Art Direction team for "Lepel". After their collaboration on "The Emperor's Wife", Production Designer Wilbert van Dorp again invited Lorien to work with him on Paul Verhoeven's "Zwartboek" (aka Black Book), and more recently the highly promising television mini-series "Stellenbosch".
