First member of the Edmonton Oilers organization to be selected to the
Hockey Hall of Fame. (9 September 1997)
During his tenure as head coach and General Manager of the Edmonton
Oilers (1979-2000), the club won six division titles, six conference
titles and five Stanley Cup titles.
Named himself head coach of the New York Rangers one day after firing
HOF'er Bryan Trottier. Sather is the third GM to take over for a fired
NHL coach this season. (30 January 2003)
In 658 NHL regular season games (1966-1976) with the Boston Bruins,
Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues, Montreal
Canadiens and Minnesota North Stars, he had 80 goals and 113 assists
for 193 points.
Sather and his wife, Ann, have two sons, Justin and Shanon.
He led Team Canada to the 1984 Canada Cup championship and was general
manager of the Canadian team that won the World Championship in 1994,
Canada's first since 1961.
Part Owner of the Chilliwack (British Columbia) Bruins of the Western
Hockey League.
