Polina Osen is an award-winning photographer and filmmaker. She is dedicated to narrative and documentary work that explores all facets of the emotional heart of a story, telling it from perspectives that have often been ignored or forgotten in the past. She aims to make films that provide insight into what it means to be alive and thus allow us to feel our way toward a greater understanding of one another and of the natural world. Above all else, her work regards the universal experience of grief.
Polina was born in Novosibirsk, Russia, and grew up in the American South. She is an alum of the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts (MFA '22), the Department of American Studies at Columbia University (American Studies '18), and the photojournalism program at the University of Missouri School of Journalism (BJ '10). Prior to pivoting to filmmaking, Polina's last name was Yamshchikov and she was a professional documentary photojournalist and portraitist on the main roster at Redux Pictures, a major agency in New York City.
