MTV is poised to step even further back from the first third of its name. Hot off the success of last summer's scripted programming, when it scored hits with "Awkward" and "Teen Wolf," MTV appears set to expand opportunities for actors.The music network has relied heavily on its unscripted series in recent years, with programing focused on shows like "Jersey Shore" and "Teen Mom." In the last couple years, though, MTV has pushed its scripted development. The success of series like "Awkward," which is about to premiere its second season, and "Teen Wolf," which is currently airing its second season, have coincided with promotions for five of the network’s development executives.MTV announced Wednesday that Shannon Fitzgerald has been given the title of senior vice president for series development. MTV has announced the promotion of several key members of its development team. Shannon Fitzgerald has been named Svp Series Development; Jessica Zalkind is now Svp Talent and Series Development; and Karen Frank, Christy Spitzer, and Tiffany Lea Williams have all been named VP Series Development. The promotions were announced by David Janollari, head of Programming, and Chris Linn, Evp of Programming and Head of Production for MTV.

MTV has added four new series to its programming slate and a special centering on an up-and-coming musician. The cable network has picked up The Heights (working title), a docudrama that follows a group of friends who live, work and play in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City. The Heights will be executive produced by Cheryl Horner Sirulnick, George McTeague, Beck Hickey, Craig Sloane and Jim Czarnecki, in addition to Christy Spitzer, Christina Lee and Shannon Fitzgerald.
