Former EastEnders star Mohammed George has accepted libel damages over a tabloid report which claimed that he had to be removed from the soap's 25th anniversary party. George, who played Gus Smith in the BBC show, took legal action against Express Newspapers after the allegation was printed in the Daily Star Sunday earlier this year. Former EastEnders star Mohammed George has revealed that he was removed from the show's 25th anniversary party. On arriving at the party George, who played road sweeper Gus Smith, reportedly asked one of the show's bosses why they hadn't supported him when he was forced to leave the soap two years ago. The boss responded by having George removed from the party. He told the Daily Star: "I didn't deserve to be treated that way. I had no choice but to leave again. She asked me how I was and, of course, I had to bring up everything that had happened. "I hadn't seen her for two years. But she just said, 'If you're going to bring this up then you'd better leave'. There was no shouting, no abusive language and no threatening behaviour. "I couldn’t believe it. I'd just arrived at the party and had been really (more...

The trust was set up later in his memory to promote and fund anti-violence campaigns.

Former EastEnders star Mohammed George has reportedly claimed that the Walford soap overlooks its black actors. The 27-year-old is said to have made the remarks as he reflected on his six-year stint as road sweeper Gus Smith on the BBC One show. "Jonathan Ross once said that black people at the BBC are mainly cleaners and guards and he's right," the Daily Star quotes George as saying. He continued: "Gus was a very popular character who played an important role. I grew up in the real East End and there are many people like him. But I was like a footballer, always on the bench, waiting sometimes for three months to do filming. I asked again and again for bigger lines. All I wanted was a break but it never came." George also alleged that Albert Square veteran June Brown (Dot Cotton) was among a number of high-profile cast members...

Long-standing EastEnders dog Wellard is to be killed off from the soap after 14 years. Wellard, played by a bitch called Kyte, turned up on Albert Square in 1994 when Robbie Jackson (Dean Gaffney) found him as a stray and saved him from his neglectful owner. When Robbie left for India in 2003, ownership passed to Gus Smith (Mo George) who took care of him until this year. In that time, Wellard was detained by police after biting Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) and later kidnapped by Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick). Last month, Mickey Miller (Joe Swash) gave the Square's resident canine a home when Gus left Walford for a life on the road with girlfriend Keisha. The Millers, however, were not keen on Wellard residing in their home and forced Mickey to get rid of him. Mickey sold him to (more)...
