“Museum Town,” a documentary narrated by Meryl Streep, will release on demand in December.
The film is playing exclusively on Kino Lorber’s virtual cinemas platform, Kino Marquee, starting on Dec. 4. It will be made available on other digital platforms, cable and streaming services in the coming months.
“Museum Town” tells the story of the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art — an unconventional museum in the small town of North Adams, Mass — and the power of art to transform a barren post-industrial city. Jennifer Trainer, a former journalist and one of the original builders of Mass MoCA, directed the documentary. The film had its world premiere at this year’s South by Southwest Film Festival.
“‘Museum Town’ demonstrates that art can be a path to economic recovery, but it’s also a story about risk,” Trainer said. “In 1986, when as a journalist I first learned about the idea for Mass MoCA...

Dolly Parton’s surprise appearance may have grabbed most of the headlines during this past summer’s Newport Folk Festival, but one of the weekend’s most exciting moments came during the Sunday evening closing set when Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold, the Shins’ James Mercer and Eric Johnson (Fruit Bats) offered a note-by-note rendition of “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes,” Crosby, Stills & Nash’s 1969 classic.

On June 28th, Wilco will return to the rolling hills of North Adams, Massachusetts, to kick off the sixth installment of their Solid Sound Festival. For Wilco and their fans, it will be more than just a weekend of great music: This year, Solid Sound doubles as a welcome-back party celebrating the official end of Wilco’s year-plus hiatus.
“We’re as excited as we’ve ever been,” says frontman Jeff Tweedy, calling from the Loft, the band’s Chicago recording studio. “Maybe a little bit more, because it’s...

Wilco enlisted Courtney Barnett, experimental rock act Tortoise, jangle-pop band the Feelies and — in an intriguing and unexpected turn — Mad Men actor Jon Hamm for the 2019 edition of their own Solid Sound Festival, scheduled for June 28th through the 30th at Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art in North Adams, Massachusetts. When Americana pioneers Uncle Tupelo released their major-label debut, Anodyne on October 5th, 1993, it should have been the beginning of something big.
In a way, it was. Led by Jay Farrar and Jeff Tweedy from tiny Belleville, Illinois, the alt-country movement’s promising breakout band was packing clubs in major cities across America and Europe, not just the college towns where they spent years building their fan base.
They were following up their left-turn acoustic record, March 16-20, 1992, recorded with R.E.M.’s Peter Buck, with their best record...

Was it worth the wait for Wilco? The answer is on the way, guaranteed to arrive a lot sooner than the band's next scheduled visit to Denver.
One of America's finest and hardest-working alternative rock/country acts is back on the road this month, resuming their tour in support of their Grammy-nominated 2011 album, The Whole Love.
The first stop of the 2012 leg that began 10 consecutive sold-out dates was the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver on January 19. For frontman Jeff Tweedy, it had a familiar, uh, smell to it.
With the emphasis on playing rock idol instead of making idle chatter, Tweedy (right) finally addressed the sellout crowd seven tunes into the lively, 26-song set.
"Hey! How's it going?" he asked, seemingly relaxed but reserved. "Is pot legal here? Sort of? Somewhat? It smells legal. It smells very legal."
The smoke signals were evident in a state where medical-marijuana dispensaries have flourished...

A supergroup led by Neil Finn played a live set at Camden's Dingwalls in London last night. 7 Worlds Collide, which also featured Radiohead's Ed O'Brien and Phil Selway as well as Glenn Kotche and John Stirratt of Wilco, played songs from upcoming charity LP The Sun Came Out. In addition to the tracks penned for the album, the group also performed versions of Finn's Crowded House hits 'Don't Dream It's Over' and 'Weather With You' and The Beatles's 'Something', NME reports. Finn said: "It was really sweaty out there, but that's exactly what you want from this sort of event. It covers a lot of the cracks and it gets people involved." O'Brien added: "I enjoyed (more)...
