IDFA Pitch Forum Includes New Mofaddivies From Filmmakers Maite Alberdi, Filip Remunda, Anette Ostrø
New work from filmmakers Maite Alberdi (“The Mole Agent”), Filip Remunda (“Czech Journal”) and Anette Ostrø (“Hotel Cæsar”) are among the 22 documentary projects that have been selected for the 30th edition of the IDFA Pitch Forum, which will run concurrent to the 35th edition of the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, running Nov. 9 – 20.
The doc festival’s IDFA Forum is an industry-focused co-financing and co-production market that will host 60 titles across its four sections, including the IDFA Pitch category. The Forum allows filmmakers and producers to present their projects — all at various stages of production and development — before buyers, curator and decision-makers from the worlds of public and private broadcasting, streaming, and international film festivals.
The IDFA Pitch Forum is the market’s flagship category. Alberdi’s “The Eternal Memory” is a meditation on love and memory that observes a couple dealing with Alzheimer’s over a four-year period. Remunda will be presenting “Love Exposed,...

This weekend's Consuelo Mack WealthTrack reveals a "Seismic Investment Shift!" -- premiering nationwide beginning Friday, October 11 at 7:30 p.m. on public television (check local listings**) and on wealthtrack.com. Influential economist and WealthTrack "Financial Thought Leader" David Rosenberg (Gluskin Sheff, formerly Merrill Lynch) explains why he now predicts inflation will rise, bonds will suffer, and the changes this will bring to the economy and markets. Perhaps the most controversial aspect of his new position is his outlook for jobs and wages. "As capacity is drained out of the labor market...the price response will be in the form of higher wages. I find it very interesting that, you take a look at this cycle, companies have tremendous cash; there are...

The Young and the Restless tallied 23 nominations as honors were announced this morning for the 40th annual Daytime Emmy Awards. Restless’ impressive take helped CBS lead all networks with 50 overall nominations. PBS and ABC followed, with 44 and 38 nods, respectively.
General Hospital, which earned 19 nominations, joined Restless in the race for Outstanding Drama Series, and Sesame Street received 17 nods, including three for Kevin Clash, the voice of Elmo who faces allegations of sexual misconduct.
Good Morning America and Today will bring their ratings rivalry to the Emmys, where they’ll be joined by CBS Sunday Morning in the Outstanding Morning Program category.

Helmer John Asher has managed to shoot Somebody Marry me, a feature-length comedy with just one shot. Apparently the historic 98 minute film took 18 days to write and 3 weeks of rehearsal with the cast prior to shooting the whole pic without a single cut. That's quite impressive. The Kimberly Stuckwisch and Ben Milliken-produced film which was funded and produced by independent film financier Lamar Billups, is a heartwarming romantic comedy with a twist. Starring is Oscar-nominated Michael Lerner (Barton Fink) and The Soprano’s Ray Abruzzo, with a supporting cast including Annie Burgstede, Jeff Doucette and Leslie Murphy, among others. In Somebody Marry Me, David Rosenberg has just a few hours to find a woman to marry before his wealthy father gives his entire inheritance to his young spoiled stepmother. After losing his girlfriend, David posts an ad online looking for a wife and quickly finds himself in over his head.

Taking voices away from actors, or plunging audiences into darkness, can provide an immersive, more intimate experience
For the makers of The Artist, clutching five Oscars this week including best film, silence is quite literally golden.
Some have argued that it wooed the Academy by conjuring up the romance of Hollywood's past. Regardless of its awards success, it has won the hearts of the public with a novel approach that trusted them to take an imaginative leap. Disposing with dialogue let the viewer engage in an unfamiliar way with the characters and invest in the story.
By depriving the actors of their voices, director Michel Hazanavicius focused attention on gesture, action and movement. Of course, all those things are present in a talkie, but without words a raised eyebrow takes on greater significance, and the look of love, when it does not have to speak, is invested with unfamiliar power.

New York -- There's been some red, white and blue pride over the dollar's recent rally, but the greenback's strengthening is traceable to a growing sense that the global economic decline will be worse overseas than in the U.S.
That could be bad news for Hollywood and the media conglomerates who own the studios. The same U.S. entertainment groups that have been touting their geographical diversification soon might start feeling a big pinch from an even bigger slump in the already-slack worldwide ad market.
"Media stocks (with) European exposure have been under pressure," Miller Tabak analyst David Joyce said.
Virgin Media, British Sky Broadcasting and Liberty Global are among those struggling, and weaker consumer spending could spread the pain to the cable TV sector, Joyce added. "A weaker economy equals less consumer discretionary income equals less propensity to upgrade to higher-speed Internet tiers and digital video packages," he said.
