Ash have shared a brand-new single from their forthcoming album Race The Night. ‘Like A God’ is the follow-up to last month’s lead single and album title-track ‘Race The Night’, which heralded anticipation for a record that promises to be super-charged, widescreen and with melodies to spare. It won instant support across BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 2 and Absolute Radio, bringing with it what lead singer and guitarist Tim Wheeler described as “the sound of the band revelling in the sheer joy of being a band after being separated by time and distance through the insanity of the early 2020s.”
‘Like A God’ comes on fast as muscular riffing beats a path to its wild and raucous end. Wheeler comments: “Like A God pushes the rock aspect of the album to its furtherest limits. An ode to sexual apotheosis it revels in a carnal riff played with mantra like...

Ash has announced their first new album together in more than five years, and sharing a new single alongside news of an upcoming UK / EU tour. Race The Night, the band’s eighth studio album, will be released on 15th September 2023 via one of their earliest label homes Fierce Panda. With 29 years, 18 hit singles, seven studio albums and an unfathomable number of tour dates since their appearance on the label’s 1994 Crazed And Confused compilation, Race The Night is both a party with old friends and a message to leap into the present with arms wide open.
Fitting then that the lead single should be the album’s title-track, with its super-charged and widescreen anthemia being the perfect primer for a record that has melodies to spare. “Before the shadows let us go, and it’s too late, to race the night” sings lead vocalist and guitarist Tim Wheeler as...

Have a collection of horror films that are great, but might still let you sort-of-sleep at night...
It’s fair to say that not everyone gets along with horror films. For every horror aficionado who revels in being scared witless or seeing a hapless victim have their insides rehomed, there are plenty who would rather chew gravel than spend two hours in the company of their worst fears and nightmares.
Somewhere in between is a bizarre middle ground (which is where I sit) of those intrigued by the thought of horror films, but in practice spend half the film ingesting their own fingernails or testing the structural integrity of the arm rests.
If you’re not a huge fan of horror but still fancy dipping your toe in the water, here are 13 horror films perfect for those who don’t like horror films...

From acclaimed L.A.-based artist Alex Israel comes ‘Spf-18‘. This will be Israel’s first foray into feature films, as his career has mostly comprised of making splashes in the La art scene. The film itself includes elements of his gallery shows, and Israel describes the film as “An artwork for teenagers, who watch movies at school, on iTunes, and on Netflix.” This trailer for ‘Spf-18‘ seems reminiscent of recent coming of age tales like ‘The Kings of Summer‘ and ‘The Way, Way Back‘, mixed with the cheekiness of a show like ‘The O.C.‘.
‘Spf-18‘ is sure to follow in the same vein, albeit providing a more millennial approach. The film stars Carson Meyer, Noah Centineo, Bianca Santos, Jackson White, Sean Russel Herman, Rosanna Arquette, Molly Ringwald, Keanu Reeves, Pamela Anderson, and Goldie Hawn.
Here’s the official synopsis:

Edgar Wright's films are often likened to musicals, with his precise use of editing and shot choices giving us some of the most stylish comedy films of the century. His latest, Baby Driver, isn't a comedy per se, but “a musical with car chases”, or “An American In Paris on wheels and crack smoke”, as an elated Guillermo del Toro described it on Twitter.
Centring around Ansel Elgort's Baby, a getaway driver who does his best work while listening to a personal soundtrack, it seems like the film Wright was born to make. He had the idea for the film after making his first feature,...

When: Thursday, 6 a.m. through the weekend
What: A mix of classic episodes from both series, digitally remastered for a new generation (and very much appreciated). While the “Tng” episodes selected are largely from Season 2 (not exactly the show at its finest), the “Tos” episodes set to air are more choice — highlights include “The City on the Edge of Forever,” “Amok Time,” and “Space Seed.

It’s not just a cliche: Everything old is indeed new again on TV, particularly this upcoming season.
Fox is leading the drive, with three upcoming shows based on existing titles: “The Exorcist,” a new take on an old horror franchise; “Lethal Weapon,” a remake of the 1980s buddy comedy, and “Prison Break,” which is a continuation of that original series (expected in early 2017). CBS is also on the bandwagon, with new takes on “MacGyver” and “Training Day.”
The networks went through a similar exercise last year, and the results were mixed. At Fox, “Minority Report” was a dud, but the return of “The X-Files” was a massive ratings hit. CBS’ “Rush Hour” was a miss, but a new version of “The Odd Couple” is picking up steam.
Just as sequel and franchise mania envelops the film biz, it’s easy to knock TV for its constant desire to ride the wayback machine.

I would be lying if I said Box of Dread’s Shaun Of The Dead/Army Of Darkness mashup theme didn’t excite the hell out of me. I mean, come on, these are two pretty iconic and beloved flicks. Well, this month’s Box of Dread definitely did not disappoint in terms of cool collectibles and swag!
First item out of the box was Vinyl Sugar’s Shaun (Shaun Of The Dead) Dorbz figure. It’s a really nice vinyl figure complete with details like Shaun’s nametag, his trusty cricket bat, and even the tiny red [blood] stain on his shirt. And bonus, the box wasn’t damaged!
Next, we have some Starship Troopers trading cards. Talk about some “unlikely heroes”! Circa 1997, these bad boys features images from Paul Verhoeven’s action-packed Sci-Fi, as well as storyboard sketches and facts about the scenes. These cards are practically oozing nostalgia.

Question: Can we expect the LokSat storyline to be wrapped up by the end of Castle‘s Season 8 finale? —Andrea
Ausiello: Considering that Kristofer Polaha will resurface as LokSat stooge Caleb Brown in the May 16 closer, I’d say that is a safe-ish bet. Speaking of which, with a renewal decision expected to come down to the wire, I hear producers are shooting multiple endings — one that works as a season finale and another that serves as a series finale.

One great thing about being a cast member of AvED is even when you’re seemingly-main character is unexpectedly slaughtered, you know you get a second act as a Deadite. And so Amanda Fisher, who turned on a dime from adversary to love interest to dead meat, is of course back as a Deadite, roaming the woods ready to spread the pain from Ash, Pablo and Kelly to the suspiciously sexy Australian campers, who might as well be wearing t-shirts that say “bait”. Happy post-Halloween, everyone! I hope it was spooooky and fun and sugar-coma-tastic. Man, I love Halloween. And this year I had a big party to go to, so I decided to go all out on my costume, a creepy “broken doll.”
Even though this year’s costume was not specifically geek-related (unlike that year I went as Black Canary and everyone thought I was Lady Gaga… sigh), I had a great time putting it together, and since putting together a good costume is part of the fun for me at some conventions, and I haven’t done a costume how-to (Emily-style!) in a while, I thought I’d give it a whirl with my Halloween getup.
I am unashamed to admit that this year’s costume idea came from an email Hot Topic sent out advertising their Halloween costume pieces. (And Fyi, if anyone else is remembering the days when...

The Evil Dead has been the talk of the horror community over the course of the past couple weeks, a tumultuous period of time full of ups and downs, excitement and disappointment.
First we found out that Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi would be returning for Army of Darkness 2, and then Campbell himself debunked the rumor he started – chalking it up to fanboy fantasy. Then we learned that Fede Alvarez wouldn’t be directing the sequel to this year’s remake, followed by the news that he in fact would be returning to the cabin in the woods.
Honestly, I don’t even know what to think anymore. About any of it. I’ve kind of had enough of the rumors and reports about the franchise, and I think we all need a break. So let’s all take one together, while soaking in the glorious sights of the top...

Thanks for taking the time to talk with Daily Dead. Could you tell our readers a bit about yourself and your work in the comic book industry?
Elliott R. Serrano: I’m a writer and columnist for the Chicago Redeye, a sib of the Tribune Company, who specializes in pop-culture and “geek culture.” I write a blog called “Geek To Me” (redeyechicago.com/geektome) where I write about movies,...

The Project: The Evil Dead, the remake of the low-budget Saim Raimi gorefest which kickstarted one of the great cult-film horror franchises.
The Panel: Star Jane Levy, director Fede Alvarez, and Bruce Campbell, star of the original Evil Dead trilogy and de facto mascot of all things Comic-Con. Moderated by Entertainment Weekly’s resident playboy Dalton Ross.
Footage Screened: An extended and extremely gory trailer for the remake debuted in front of a crowd. The beats of the film are familiar: A group of young people go into a remote cabin. But the trailer quickly descends into extremely visceral violence.

Ah ... Kiwi horror comedy. There may have been one or two notable films from the region in the past and here comes another one. About to premiere at the New Zealand International Film Festival The Last of the Living is a new zombie comedy from the land of many sheep.
A highly contagious virus has transformed almost every human into flesh-eating zombies. Now it’s up to three bickering, video playing friends, Morgan, Ash and unreformed rock’n’roller Johnny with their pick of well-appointed houses to occupy and free rein at the local Pak-n-Save, to save the world.
You should be well down with the zom-com routine by now and, honestly, I wouldn’t want to be making one of these in the post Shaun of the Dead world but this looks to be reasonable well done. Check the trailer below the break!
