“Jab jab aapko lagta hai ki aap Bihar ko samajh gaye hain, Bihar aapko jhatka deta hai,” says Pramod Pathak’s character of Satyendranath Mishra in Season 2 of the streaming political drama show ‘Maharani’.
The dialogue doubles as the logline for the new season as well.
Season 1 saw Bheema Bharti being jailed following a scam; Season 2 takes the narrative forward and presents a story that is laced with political twists and turns and spreads out like a game of chess where one wrong move could change the equation completely throwing every bet off the table.
Season 2 brings Bheema out of jail as he tries to pull away the MLAs under his wife Rani Bharti’s command to form a new political party. But he is stunned by how fast his wife has learnt the ropes of politics. The season presents the husband and wife at the opposite spectrum of morals and values.

Maharani(SonyLIV, 10 Episodes)
Starring Huma Qureshi, Sohum Shah, Amit Sial, Kani Kusruti and Inaamulhaq
Directed by Karan Sharma
If a genuine exploration of the Rabri Devi phenomenon in Bihar’s tangled politics is what you are looking for , then Maharani is not your poison. If, however, you are sold on a wildly implausible spin on Rabri Devi’s journey from Mrs Lalu Yadav to Chief Minister of Bihar, this web-series, done up in dollops of devilishly pickled dialogues and bursts of humour in a dark uniform, is strongly recommended.
Writer Subhash Kapoor seems very interested in powerful North Indian female politicians. His self-directed feature film Madame Cm was based on Mayawati’s ascension to the Up throne. In Maharani, which Kapoor has written, he dives into Rabri Devi’s bizarre political escapade and comes up with a twin-sister named Rani Bharti who goes through the same journey as Rabri Devi but via a different route.

"Maharani" tells a story that could seem bizarre in many parts of the world. In India, an illiterate wife of an indisposed chief minister being pushed into the hotseat of Bihar politics makes for slice-of-life realism.
For creator Subhash Kapoor, a scoop off the forever simmering cauldron that is Bihar politics would seem like an automatic advantage when it comes to setting up instant drama. The flip side becomes evident soon enough as the show unfolds. Ten episodes would seem inadequate to sum up the infinitely complex socio-politics of Bihar, where scam and scamster, crime and criminal seem to be thriving in every cranny of the system, coupled by the fact that the state's cast and class equations set up a maze that is nearly impossible to decode.
Kapoor and series director Karan Sharma have only scraped the surface of the maze, to set sketchy characters and plot situations.

Vidya Balan just told her 'kahaani' successfully while a few years ago Sanjay Gupta too had a vision to present Dus Kahaniyaan in a feature film format. Though the film didn't do many wonders at the box office, it was acclaimed for it's unique presentation and the fact that it boasted of a huge A list star cast. Circa 2012 and the feat is being taken one level higher up with a film which has, hold your breath, 11 stories. Titled Mumbai Cutting, the film tells 11 stories - each of which has Mumbai as its setting. Interestingly the film is ready for over four years and is now finally gearing up for release on 29th June.
