The first time Jimmy Kimmel showed up at the Oscars, he didn’t have a ticket. It was the mid-1990s, back when he was on Kroq’s “Kevin & Bean” morning drive-time show, and he and host Kevin Ryder decided to sneak into the Academy Awards Governors Ball.
“I remember us getting there 9 o’clock in the morning in tuxedos,” Kimmel recalls. “We figured that if we hung around long enough, it would seem like we belonged there. But then moments before the guests began to arrive, they kicked us right out.”
Their mistake was claiming they were guests of Gil Cates — just a name they saw in the Oscars credits, but actually the longtime Academy Awards executive producer. Still, Kimmel and Ryder slipped back in — and then had a glorious evening. “The only thing I really remember from that night is we told John Travolta that we snuck in...

A year after Kroq veteran Ted Stryker and radio partner Kevin Klein moved to the station’s A.M. slot — in a hasty shift after the station fired morning hosts Kevin Ryder, Allie Mac Kay and Jensen Karp — Stryker is departing the show.
Stryker announced the news on his Twitter account: “After more than 22 years at Kroq, I can proudly say with infinite gratitude that I will be leaving my full time position and stepping away from Stryker and Klein,” he wrote. “What’s next for me? I’ve got a lot of things planned on the horizon (stay tuned). In the meantime, my Out of Order show will continue to air on weekends on Kroq and around the country. I’ll also be filling in on the station when needed. The love and support that I’ve gotten from this community over so many years have meant and continue...

Kevin Ryder, who spent 30 years at Kroq-fm as one-half of the popular “Kevin & Bean” morning drive show, is launching a daily YouTube series that highlights positive stories in the news.
In his first official gig since Kroq fired him in March, Ryder will partner with Mike Catherwood to host “Great News with Kevin & Mike” starting January 4. “Great News” will be distributed as both a video series on YouTube but also as an audio podcast. The show is reunion of sorts for Ryder and Catherwood, who spent several years as a board operator on “Kevin & Bean” and regularly appeared on that show.
“I really connect with those stories that there are still good people out there, and still doing good things, and if everybody was like that, this life would be a lot better,” Ryder said. “There are endless stories. You just have to look a little bit. It’s just...

Radio personality Kevin Ryder was “baffled” by Kroq’s “cold, heartless attitude” when he and his morning-show team were fired at the end of March. The station has long been an alternative/rock staple in Los Angeles, the second-largest market in the country, and Ryder had been on the air for more than 30 years.
“The new people in charge now weren’t here for the building of the world-famous Kroq,” Ryder, one-half of the popular Kevin & Bean Show, said on air when the station let him go, live one final time.

Kroq’s Kevin In The Morning show is no more. Longtime host Kevin Ryder first revealed the news on Twitter that he and the entire L.A. morning show team had been fired, and Kroq management has confirmed that is the case.
“Hey party people! Not sure how to say this, so here it is: Yesterday, @kroq called every one of us on the morning show and told us we were fired,” Ryder tweeted Wednesday.

Hits on the radio change every year, but we’ll always have the Kroq Weenie Roast.
The annual music-festival staple entered its 26th year on Saturday, boasting an impressive lineup that included Blink-182, Panic! at the Disco, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Dirty Heads, Rise Against, Mt Joy, James Bay, Awolnation and the War on Drugs. Following are some highlights from the one-day bash at the Stubhub Center in Carlson, Calif.
Headlining Hype
If Blink-182 is tired of playing its old hits, it doesn’t show. While the closing set of the night did include some of their new music — including “Misery,” right at the start — the band mostly rolled through crowd favorites from late ’90s and early ’00s. And while Blink, after about 20 years of touring, runs like a well-oiled machine, seeing the rock band is really more of a communal experience. Everyone knows the words to “What’s My Age Again,...
