As You Can’t Run Forever opens, a motorcyclist pulls into a gas station where a large man is yelling at a small dog. Instead of filling his tank, the cyclist walks over, draws a gun and shoots the man. Then he starts shooting anyone else he sees. This is Wade, he’s left several bodies behind him already, and he’s looking to add to his tally.
Miranda (Isabelle Anaya; Donny’s Bar Mitzvah) is a troubled young woman. She’s still resentful over her parent’s divorce and the subsequent suicide of her father. The fact that her mother Jenny and her stepfather Eddie are about to have a child of their own. Eddie’s daughter Emily is one already one sibling too many.

The Whiplash star commits himself to the role of rampage killer on a motorbike rampage that ultimately lacks forward momentum
Veteran actor Jk Simmons (Whiplash) is the main reason to watch this basic horror-thriller, which isn’t as horrific or thrilling as one might hope. Simmons plays Wade, a cold-as-ice killer on a rampage, who kicks off the action by shooting some random people at a gas station. One of whom asks: “Why are you doing this?”; Wade’s response is: “Does it matter?” This could have stood up as an interesting moment of frank nihilistic confession on behalf of a movie genre that loves to invent motivations for maniacs when it probably doesn’t need to bother; most of these kinds of films are about the thrill of the chase, and nobody really cares why the killer is a killer. It’s only a shame that this particular example...

When we talk about perfect casting choices -- even outside the realm of superhero movies -- J.K. Simmons as The Daily Bugle head honcho J. Jonah Jameson in "Spider-Man" has to be right up there with the best of the best. Simmons so perfectly encapsulated the role that he has, essentially, been kept on as just about every version of the character throughout the Marvel multiverse, as evidenced by "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse." But before Simmons signed on for the role, he was seen as perfect for another, very different role in Spidey's rogues gallery.
In the most recent issue of Empire Magazine, the Oscar-winning actor reflected upon the early days of his time in the Marvel universe when he was only just hearing that Sam Raimi was going to direct "Spider-Man." At the time, he was shooting another Raimi film, "The Gift," and it was suggested...

The last outstanding package of national NBA games is still unsold, but Wbd doesn’t sound all that worried that it will lose the games to NBC.
Warner Bros. Discovery is putting on a brave front over the prospect of seeing NBC steal its package of national NBA games following next season. The company currently offers more than 60 NBA contests each regular season, alongside a host of playoff games on TNT. The NBA’s deal with Wbd expires following the 2024-25 season, and it has been negotiating with prospective partners (including Wbd) on its next deal for several months. The NBA will split its rights into three packages in the next contract — as opposed to the two in its current agreement with ESPN and TNT — and the last unsold bundle is the package currently belonging to Wbd. NBC has been in hot pursuit, but Wbd officials reiterated at the company...

There were tons of cool scenes that were not included in the theatrical versions of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies, with J.K. Simmons wearing a Spider-Man suit probably the most notable of all the deleted ones. However, the director decided to include this in the extended cut of Spider-Man 2 (2004) so it’s not completely wasted.
Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man
Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker has become the definitive version of the character as it introduced the franchise to the world, but Simmons’ portrayal of J. Jonah Jameson was truly the most unforgettable.
Spider-Man 2 Deleted Scene Was J.K. Simmons’ Most Iconic Look
Many extended and new scenes were supplemented in the 2007 edition of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2, commonly called as Spider-Man 2.1, and a major addition was J.K. Simmons dressed up as Spider-Man. Fans who saw the theatrical version may get confused as this scene...

Oscar winner J.K. Simmons made his career on television, appearing in Law & Order and Oz, and while he did play J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy (2002–2007), it wasn’t until Juno (2007) that he became a brand name, later appearing in Burn After Reading (2008), La La Land (2016), Justice League (2017), Being the Ricardos (2021), and other films. But, it was 2014’s Whiplash that earned him his first Oscar and earned him unanimous praise for his portrayal of the sadistic music instructor Terence Fletcher.
But, having said all of this, J.K. Simmons has a new movie coming out on May 17, 2024, an action thriller in which he will play the main role, but which is personal for him on more than one level, but more on that below.

Palm Royale’s Kristen Wiig, Josh Lucas, director Tate Taylor and writer and showrunner Abe Sylvia joined Deadline’s Contenders TV event Sunday to talk about the likability of the characters, some of the tough topics they’ve tackled and how the Palm Beach setting helped amplify the comedy of the show.
In its first season on Apple TV+, Kristen Wiig’s character, Maxine Simmons, is an ambitious woman who schemes to secure her seat at America’s most exclusive table: Palm Beach high society circa 1969. Jesse Moss and Amanda McBaine’s Boys State and Girls State have carved out an appealing niche by asking the provocative question, “What would government be like if teenage boys or teenage girls were in charge?”
Erasing the confines of gender binary and reality, Carina Mia Wong and Alex Simmons’ We Can Be Heroes works as a companion text by asking, “What would an alternate world be like if it could be wholly reimagined by teenagers?”
All three documentaries are explorations of power, opportunities to see the best (and occasionally worst) of what might happen when an ascending generation takes on its destined roles as leaders, learners, heroes and villains.
We Can Be Heroes is a documentary that makes your heart swell and makes you instantly protective of its young subjects, except that for over 86 minutes you watch those subjects slay demons and reshape a dying universe. These kids may...

On Friday nights, IndieWire After Dark takes a feature-length beat to honor fringe cinema in the streaming age.
First, the spoiler-free pitch for one editor’s midnight movie pick — something weird and wonderful from any age of film that deserves our memorializing.
Then, the spoiler-filled aftermath as experienced by the unwitting editor attacked by this week’s recommendation.

Few musical acts in American history have done more with less than Kiss. Despite boasting some of the simplest and most uninspired (if occasionally very catchy) songs of the 1970s, the shock rock act built a loyal following and merchandising empire around the novel idea of wearing makeup while singing. A father and daughter submitted a lawsuit this week claiming that Pauly Shore encouraged security members at Los Angeles’ The Comedy Store to attack the father in 2022.
The suit, filed in Los Angeles County’s West District on Thursday, alleges that security members at The Comedy Store “violently grabbed and attacked” plaintiff Sean Kehoe on Nov. 30, 2022, while his daughter, Kirra Lyn Potts, was present. The allegations also state that Kehoe sustained “severe injuries” which resulted in Potts facing “mental and emotional distress” and “extreme mental anguish.”
Kehoe and Potts both allege that Shore “agreed with and encouraged” the attack, and the suit claims that he and The Comedy Store are both responsible for the security officials’ actions as a result of negligence in his “selection of hiring.”
Kehoe and Potts are now seeking monetary compensation for previous and future medical bills, along with a to-be-determined sum for loss of earnings.

A father and daughter have accused movie star and comedian Pauly Shore of assault and battery for allegedly encouraging security members to attack the father, who was visiting the Los Angeles comedy club The Comedy Store in 2022.
The plaintiffs named in the lawsuit are Sean Kehoe and his daughter Kirra Lyn Potts, who say security personnel “violently grabbed and attacked” Kehoe during an incident that took place on Nov. 30, 2022. The legal document also states Kehoe sustained “severe injuries” after the members dragged him. The alleged attacked resulted in Potts undergoing “mental and emotional distress” and “extreme mental anguish” because she witnessed her father being assaulted.

Kiss recently played their final concert ever, but singer-bassist Gene Simmons is not ready to quit performing quite yet.
Simmons has booked a date with his solo project, Gene Simmons Band, at the Brazil edition of the Summer Breeze festival on April 26th in São Paulo. It’s the first post-kiss activity from any of the remaining band members, and the announcement comes just over a month after Kiss retired from performing in human, non-avatar form after two concerts at Madison Square Garden.
Simmons’ solo band last played in 2018 and typically runs through a setlist comprised of Simmons-penned Kiss material and deep cuts. The band’s current lineup is rounded out by guitarists Brent Woods and Zach Throne (Corey Taylor) and drummer Brian Tichy.
For Simmons, the solo shows have offered a more intimate setting — and one where he can dig deep into Kiss’ songbook.

Richard Simmons is distancing himself from a biopic that would star Pauly Shore as the fitness guru.
“Hi Everybody! You may have heard they may be doing a movie about me with Pauly Shore. I have never given my permission for this movie. So don’t believe everything you read,” read a post on Simmons’ verified Facebook page. “I no longer have a manager, and I no longer have a publicist. I just try to live a quiet life and be peaceful. Thank you for all your love and support. Richard.”
Shore announced the project Wednesday morning, though he did not claim that Simmons was involved. The Wolper Organization is backing the film. Shore has already shot the short film “Court Jester,” which will debut in Park City, Utah, during Sundance, though it is not a part of the fest.
The filmmakers responded to Simmons’ concerns in a statement of their own Wednesday.

An Arizona mother has been arrested for murdering her daughter and leaving her body in a plastic bag in a dumpster on Christmas Eve. She is now being held on a $1 million bond.
Sophia Simmons, a 38-year-old mother, has been arrested after her young daughter’s body was found in a plastic bag in a trash can.
The child’s remains reportedly had multiple injuries on her legs, arms and torso.
Simmons was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder.
Simmons became the prime suspect once police received a call from a tipster in New York, who said they heard a call from Simmons who “told the person that she had beaten her child and it went too far.”
She said after the beating, Simmons left home and found her daughter unresponsive once she came back.
According to reports, she disposed of her daughter’s body five days later in a dumpster.

Kiss concluded their “End of the Road Tour” with a final performance on Saturday night (December 2nd) at Madison Square Garden in New York City, returning to the city where their journey began. If it was indeed their last show ever, the rock legends certainly went out in style.
In the days leading up to Kiss’ two Msg shows, the Big Apple was besieged by an epic Kiss takeover. Among the many events and activities that took place were a special light show at the Empire State Building, the declaration of an official “Kiss Day” by Mayor Eric Adams, a pop-up store, complimentary Kiss tattoos courtesy of Inked NYC, a “Kiss Night” at a New York Rangers game, and much more.
On Saturday night, Kiss took the stage one last time, preceded by an opening set from Amber Wild, a hard-rocking new band featuring Paul Stanley’s son Evan. Despite...

Only two seasons in and "Invincible" has already assembled quite the voice cast. While it relies primarily on name screen actors for the big parts, the show doesn't neglect to invite professional voice actors to the party either. Even the leads offer performances that are a cut above the celebrity voice-acting you see in, for instance, DreamWorks or Illumination animated movies.
It's an easy bet that one can recognize at least some of the voices on "Invincible." Maybe a viewer knows them from watching plenty of American cartoons and hearing their voices over and over again. Or maybe they know the voices from the on-camera work the cast has done but can't place them.
Whatever the case may be, here is a rundown of the actors who've been bringing these comic book characters to life — and how their work on "Invincible" compares to their previous roles.

Apple+‘s newest blockbuster series, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, has now arrived to flesh out the larger than life “MonsterVerse.” Legacy Pictures has been building this shared universe filled with infamous kaiju ever since the reboot of Godzilla in 2014, and since, has given us all the classic monsters including Ghidora, Mothra, Rodan and of course, Kong.
Legacy of Monsters helps fill the little gaps in the periphery of the story, fleshing out the humans who choose to find, study, and often protect these massive creatures. At the center of it all has always been the imposing consortium known as “Monarch.” With all the giant-sized kaiju-chaos that can often be the most memorable moments of these monster movies, it’s understandable if Monarch shrinks in the presence of the true stars of the show. Not to worry, though, because we’re about...

With Homelander set to arrive Mortal Kombat 1 this Spring on the heels of the arrival of guest fighter Omni-Man last week, fans have been wondering if actor Antony Starr will be voicing The Boys‘ villain. Seeing as J. K. Simmons reprised his role as Omni-Man, it would only make sense, right? Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that way.
X user Uppercut Editions, LLC. noted that per Starr’s Instagram, the actor was asked if he was lending his voice for Homelander for Mortal Kombat 1, to which Starr said “nope”.
Needless to say, this is disappointing for fans hoping to hear Starr spit out some cold one-liners against Simmons, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and the rest of the Mortal Kombat 1 roster. What’s even more frustrating is that Starr lent his voice to Homelander when he made his appearance in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 earlier this year.

Kiss are in the final weeks of their “End of the Road” farewell tour. Although the band as we know it will be calling it quits after that last show on December 2nd at Madison Square Garden, Kiss as a brand will live on.
In a new interview, Gene Simmons shared insight on the future plans for Kiss beyond the farewell tour. As has always been the case with the iconic rock group, the Kiss enterprise will continue to extend far beyond mere records and concerts. A cruise, a previously announced Netflix biopic, a cartoon show, and live-action performances are all in the works, according to Simmons.
“This tour is the end of the road for the band, not the brand,” Simmons told 519 magazine. “Kiss is a universe of its own — movies, merchandise, maybe even Broadway. The band will end, but the Kiss experience… it’s immortal.”

Sometime around 11 p.m. on Dec. 2, Gene Simmons will walk offstage at Madison Square Garden in New York as the final notes of “Rock and Roll All Nite” echo through the arena, remove his Demon makeup for the last time, and say goodbye to the band he formed five decades ago. It’s easy to be skeptical about this considering nearly every farewell tour in rock history has been bullshit, this is actually the second Kiss goodbye tour, and this isn’t a band known for leaving money on the table,...

Antonio “L.A.” Reid — a Grammy-winning music executive known for helping launch the careers of Usher, OutKast and Pink — has been sued by a former Arista Records executive who claims she was sexually assaulted and retaliated against by Reid, who allegedly obstructed her career after she rebuffed further advances.
In a lawsuit filed in New York federal court on Wednesday, Drew Dixon accuses Reid, who she worked under starting in the early 2000s, of assaulting her on two occasions. After she rejected other overtures, she alleges Reid responded by “punishing the artists” she had “already signed or by blocking the artists she attempted to sign,” including Kanye West and John Legend.
The case follows accusations from Dixon made in 2017 that Russell Simmons, co-founder of Def Jam Recordings, raped her and that Reid harassed her, forcing her out of the music industry. (Simmons denied the claim.) The same year, Reid exited...

Former Arista Records executive Drew Dixon has filed a lawsuit against L.A. Reid, alleging the music mogul continually harassed and sexually assaulted her twice in 2001 while she was working for him, according to court records obtained by Rolling Stone.
Dixon sued in the Southern District of New York on Wednesday under the Adult Survivors Act, which opened up a one-year window for victims of sexual offenses to file a civil suit against their abuser outside the statute of limitations’ expiration date. The window closes on November 24th.
