Jesse Martin is joining the Motion Picture Association as senior vice president and associate general counsel, content protection and legal affairs, focused on outreach to third party intermediaries in anti-piracy efforts.
Martin was senior attorney at Bsa, The Software Alliance.
The MPA said that in the role, Martin will focus on an expanded effort to disrupt piracy sites’ use of third party services in their operations. Martin will work with the content protection team at the MPA and the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment. Her work will include developing “a global strategy for combatting and disrupting the use of intermediaries by piracy operators,” as well reaching out to such services for voluntary initiatives, the MPA said.

A focus of anti-piracy efforts has been to disrupt the flow of money and other support services to piracy sites. That has meant a focus on third parties such as web hosting and payment processors.

Sky has greenlighted a high-stakes thriller about a nuclear bomb from Pulse Films starring Game of Thrones‘ Alfie Allen.
Allen is joined by Shazad Latif (Star Trek: Discovery, What’s Love Got To Do With It) and Emmy-winner Samira Wiley (The Handmaid’s Tale, Orange is the New Black) in Atomic, which is penned by Gregory Burke (Rebus) and directed by Shariff Korver (Temple).
Filming will commence this month in Morocco on the series, in which Max (Allen) and Mohammed (Latif), two unlikely friends – and even less likely heroes – become swept up in a cartel’s plot to transport uranium across North Africa. The pair face a monumental decision: save themselves or risk everything to prevent a nuclear bomb getting into the wrong hands. Pursued by Cassie Elliott (Wiley) – a highly skilled CIA agent whose life mission is to prevent terrorists from acquiring a nuclear bomb – along with MI6 and a network of traffickers,...

FX’s “Fargo” is back in the running again after three years with its fifth season by creator Noah Hawley that will compete at the 2024 Emmy Awards. This latest installment that premiered late September returns to the current decade – having alternated between modern and period time frames in the Midwest – taking place in 2019 in Minnesota and North Dakota. It stars Juno Temple, Jon Hamm and Jennifer Jason Leigh and tells the story of a housewife who has to come to terms with her past as she is being hunted down. Past seasons of “Fargo” have done exceedingly well at the Emmy Awards, nabbing a total of 55 nominations and six wins, including a Best Limited Series victory for its debut. Let’s examine past categories and races it has competed in the last four seasons to determine potential nominations for the current outing.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom holds a strange place in every Indiana Jones fan’s heart. The awkward middle child, Temple of Doom is a dark, problematic prequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark, one which takes the series in a weirder, wilder direction—and manages to pull off one of the greatest openings of any action movie ever.
Today there’s often an assumption that contemporary critics weren’t enamored by director Steven Spielberg and writer George Lucas’ second collaboration, but that’s slightly misleading; The New Yorker’s Pauline Kael preferred Temple to Raiders because it fully embraced being “preposterous” and “implausible,” though she also writes that her friends labeled it “heartless” and “overbearing.” Meanwhile Roger Ebert gave the film a perfect four stars while People magazine warned that children may be traumatized by it.

Despite his fame in other historical adaptations and, you know, history, Benjamin Franklin doesn't really feature much in Hamilton, possibly the most well-known blend of American Revolutionary fact and fiction in recent years. But the kite-flying, phrase-spewing Founding Father is now the focus of an Apple TV+ drama starring Michael Douglas. Get all about the Benjamin here:
Not claiming to be a cradle to grave treatment of Franklin's life, Franklin – adapted from Stacy Schiff's book A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, And The Birth Of America – instead focuses on one specific chunk, when he's tasked with a vital mission. As American independence hangs by a thread, conflict raging with Britain, he's dispatched to France to convince its monarchy to help a burgeoning republic survive some serious birth pangs.

The third installment of the “Venom” franchise finally has a title, “Venom: The Last Dance.” Sony has also moved up the film’s release date to Oct. 25, 2024, from the previously-announced Nov. 8 date.
Plot details are still under wraps, but Tom Hardy will return as the lethal protector Eddie Brock/Venom in the film, also starring Juno Temple, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Clark Backo.
Kelly Marcel will make her feature directorial debut with the project. She also wrote the screenplay from a story she developed with Hardy. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, Hutch Parker, Marcel and Hardy are producing.
The first two “Venom” films earned a combined $1.3 billion at the box office.
Sony first announced the third film was in the works during its CinemaCon presentation in April 2022. The project will be the first appearance of Venom since a credits sequence cameo in 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”

It’s time for Venom fans to get Venomized again because the third installment is all set to release this year. Venom 3 will be the last of Sony Pictures’ Spidey-connected films for 2024, following Kraven the Hunter, and Madame Web, which was released last month.
Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock in a still from Venom: Let There Be Carnage
Venom first appeared in 1988 as an antagonist for Spider-Man. Since his debut in Amazing Spider-Man #298, he has become incredibly popular, leading to a blockbuster movie series with Tom Hardy portraying Venom.
In March 2016, Sony decided to make a new Venom movie. It was meant to be a standalone feature, not connected to the Spider-Man movies from Sony and Marvel Studios.
Rumors suggest that Hardy’s Venom 3 has ties to No Way Home, hinting at a connection to the Spider-Man franchise despite being a separate film series.

Venom 3 has reportedly completed its filming and is heading in the right direction for its planned theatrical release by the end of this year. Andrew Garfield fans cannot forgive Sony for not giving him a deserved trilogy, while Tom Hardy’s villain is getting his sweet three films. Many fans also complained about Sony making a Spider-Man villain trilogy without the central superhero appearing in the films.
Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock / Venom will return in the upcoming film Venom 3
Kelly Marcel, who wrote the screenplay for the first two films, serves as the director of Venom 3. While the first two Venom movies were profitable, the fate of the third film hangs in the balance due to the studio’s current reputation.

Annecy Cristal Prize winner Áron Gauder, who won the festival’s top prize in 2005 for his time-traveling love story “The District!”, returned to the prestigious French animation event this year with “Four Souls of Coyote,” an epic adventure inspired by a Native American myth about the creation of the universe that scooped the festival’s Jury Award.
Produced by Budapest-based animation studio Cinemon Entertainment and written and created by Gauder, the 2D-animated project is Hungary’s selection for the best international feature film race at the 96th Academy Awards and plays next at the Hungarian Film Festival of Los Angeles, which runs Oct. 27 – Nov. 2. World sales are being handled by Gebeka International.
Speaking to Variety recently from Budapest, Gauder describes “Four Souls of Coyote” as a long-gestating labor of love that highlights the increasingly dire stakes for mankind to live in harmony with the natural world before it’s too late.

Per the official logline, this seemingly typical Midwestern housewife is suddenly plunged back into a life she thought she had left behind.
The new season is set in Minnesota and North Dakota in 2019. Dot’s husband Wayne (David Rysdahl) and mother-in-law Lorraine (Jennifer Jason Leigh) have no idea about her past, and Lorraine’s thriving position as the CEO of the country’s largest debt collection agency complicates matters as a slew of police are on Dot’s tail. Hungary has selected Annecy-winning title Four Souls of Coyote as its official entry for the International Oscar race this year.
The 2D animation, which is Áron Gauder and produced by Réka Temple’s Cinemon Ent., is a retelling of the Native American creation myths whilst also reflecting on present day. The project explores issues of climate crisis when a company and the natives come face to face over the laying of oil pipelines. The community protests for its home and recalls the creation story and through the adventures of the mythical Coyote, which brings the wisdom of the indigenous people close to the audience and shows that it is easier to shape the future in the right direction by listening to the experiences of the past.

The cable network has kept plot details tightly under wraps since it was announced that Jon Hamm and Juno Temple would be headlining.

FX’s latest installment of Fargo is being pushed to Nov. 21 amid Hollywood’s dual strikes.
Though the series was never publicly dated, multiple sources say it had been circling a release date in September. But with stars including Jon Hamm and Juno Temple unable to promote the fifth chapter in Noah Hawley’s Fargo universe as long as there’s a work stoppage, FX made the choice to hold the Emmy-winning anthology series back.
The decision comes as executives across the TV and film landscape have been debating whether to release or shelve their completed projects. In recent weeks, Max’s Rap Sh!t and FX’s A Murder at the End of the World, a limited series starring Clive Owen and Emma Corrin, were both delayed from August to November. Expect other series to follow suit.

This story about Phil Dunster and “Ted Lasso” first appeared in the Down to the Wire: Comedy issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
Over the course of the three seasons of “Ted Lasso,” 14 different actors have been nominated for Emmys for the Apple TV+ comedy about a down-on-his-luck American football coach who somehow ends up managing an English soccer team. But until this year, one key member of the original cast was missing from that list: Phil Dunster, who plays the egotistical, brash star Jamie Tartt, has watched co-stars like series co-creator Jason Sudeikis and castmates Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, Juno Temple, Nick Mohammed, Brendan Hunt and Jeremy Swift land nominations, while Emmy voters have never quite found room for him in the slate of nominees.

The Beatles‘ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band features numerous famous people on the cover. One movie star is featured on the album three times. During one of those appearances, she’s depicted as a doll.
A movie star is on The Beatles’ ‘Sgt. Pepper’ 3 times and 1 time she’s barely visible
The cover of The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper includes people from many fields. For example, it includes authors like Karl Marx and Oscar Wilde, musicians like Bob Dylan and Dion Dimucci, and religious leaders like Aleister Crowley and Paramahansa Yogananda.
Despite this, Hollywood stars make up a huge portion of the people on the album. Mae West, Marilyn Monroe, Marlon Brando, W. C. Fields, Laurel and Hardy, Bette Davis, Tyrone Power, and Marlene Dietrich are all there. According to Goldmine, child star Shirley Temple is on Sgt. Pepper three times. Each appearance is very different from the last.

Lisa Ann Walter is hoping for a first-ever Emmy bid as season two of “Abbott Elementary” looks to up its awards success from the first outing, which won three Emmys. ABC’s mockumentary season comes from multi-hyphenate Quinta Brunson, who stars in the show as well as creates it, writes it, and produces it. It follows a group of public school teachers who work in one of the worst schools in the country but their love for teaching makes them stay to try and better the school and its students. The show is full of wonderful comedic performances, not least from “The Parent Trap” star Walter.
Walter plays second-grade teacher Melissa Schemmenti, who is close with Sheryl Lee Ralph‘s Barbara. Both teachers are veterans at Abbott Elementary, while some of Melissa’s connections outside of school are deemed questionable. Walter has a lot of fun as Melissa, who has...

Eight minutes into Temple Of Doom, Indiana Jones kills someone by hurling a flaming kebab into his chest. As far as I’m aware, we hadn’t seen such a thing on screen before. Or in real life. It’s outrageous really, an insane thing to do, and to see. But all of Temple Of Doom is loopy. With Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas had made a genuinely classic film, got heaps of acclaim, and now here they were with a follow-up for which they, well, went mad. To which I say: Thank you.
Temple Of Doom is pulpier, funnier, sillier, scarier than Raiders. Each Indy outing is tonally different from the last; this one actually becomes a whole other film halfway through, switching unapologetically from knockabout farce to traumatic nightmare. And for all its faults – which, for all the film’s greatness, are admittedly plentiful – it is,...

On the long list of “Ted Lasso” creators, it can be easy to overlook the name of Brendan Hunt. Hunt told the Times that Apple CEO Tim Cook had been to visit the set while Season 3 was in production, and told everyone there he “sure hope[d] there’s a Season 4.” Hunt said that Cook’s message in relaying those words was very clear and that when the boss tells you what he wants, it’s wise to at least give it consideration.

Spoiler Alert: This review contains spoilers from the series finale of “Ted Lasso,” now streaming on Apple TV+.
Here’s a scoop: There will be a fourth season of “Ted Lasso.” Actually, it has already aired, and it was not great.
“Ted Lasso” grew out a character created by Jason Sudekis and friends for NBC Premier League promos, a Kansas City-based football coach who somehow finds himself coaching the other football in London for AFC Richmond, a chronically downtrodden franchise. It’s a typical fish-out-of water premise, which is a classic comedy trope, but comes with some limitations — namely, when the fish becomes an amphibian and begins to love land life. Mindful of those constraints, “Lasso” debuted in 2020 to acclaim, with critics lauding its cock-eyed optimism as the world struggled with a deadly pandemic. Season 1’s 10 episodes ran an average of 30 minutes apiece, totaling 299 minutes for the season.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge may have been the star of her seminal comedy series “Fleabag” but Sian Clifford, who played Fleabag’s semi-unstable sister, Claire, proved herself an equally gifted comedic performer. Clifford has since put that status to good use in “Quiz,” “Inside No. 9,” and “See How They Run.” Now, she stars opposite Rob and John Owen Lowe in Netflix’s “Unstable.”
“Unstable,” reportedly inspired by John Owen’s trolling of his father Rob, follows the former as a son forced to work for the biological research company that his father, the latter, runs. However, the father, grieving from the recent death of his wife of 30 years, has become eccentric and erratic and is more focused on activities such as sunbathing naked in his office rather than running Dragon, his company. Clifford plays Anna, the CFO of Dragon, and she tries her hardest to protect her boss from other employees and himself.

[This story contains spoilers for “La Locker Room Aux Folles,” the ninth episode of Ted Lasso season three.]
After several nearly hour-long installments, Ted Lasso comes in at a comparatively lean 44 minutes for “La Locker Room Aux Folles,” which despite its title and the opening and closing tunes on the soundtrack, is definitely not a farce about an elaborate attempt by anyone at Richmond to hide their true nature.
It does, however, bring some resolution to Colin’s (Billy Harris) coming out story and takes a big step in positioning Roy (Brett Goldstein) to become Richmond’s next manager if Ted (Jason Sudeikis) ends up heading back to Kansas at season’s end (and, of course, the even larger if of Apple TV+ continuing its biggest show even if its title character isn’t there anymore).

This post contains spoilers for season 3 of "Ted Lasso."
One of the most beloved characters on "Ted Lasso" is Keeley (Juno Temple), the ambitious, bubbly woman who, in season 3, is at the head of her own PR film and finds herself inexplicably broken up with Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein).
It's hard to imagine Keeley played by anyone else besides Temple, and it turns out that there's a reason for that: the writers changed how they wrote Keeley once Temple was brought on board.
In a March 2023 interview with Collider, Goldstein — who is also a writer on the show — shared that he has nothing but praise for his co-star and that he was even a little bit intimidated by her at first. "I was scared of working with Juno Temple because she's such a great actor," he confessed. The two soon found their rhythm, however, and the show has become better for it.

Though details about the film are still cloaked in a black, interplanetary goo, there’s word from the Sony camp that Juno Temple will star opposite Tom Hardy in the third installment of the slightly deranged McU-adjacent “Spider-Man”-related trilogy. Ted Lasso star Juno Temple is ready to make her debut Marvel.
The actress, who has earned two Emmy nominations for her work on the hit Apple comedy, is in negotiations to join Tom Hardy in Venom 3, the next installment in Sony’s Spider-Man-related universe of characters.
Kelly Marcel, who worked as a scribe on the previous installments, will be making her directorial debut with the feature. She is also writing the script from a story by herself and Hardy.
The duo will produce, along with Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal and Hutch Parker.
Details are being kept under wraps but one source said Temple may be playing an existing Marvel character.
Michelle Williams played the romantic lead in the first two Venom movies.
Temple has prior comic book movie experience, having been part of the casts of 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises and 2014’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

Deadline has reported that Juno Temple is in negotiations to star alongside Tom Hardy in Venom 3. It’s not known who Temple would be playing in the Venom sequel, but she should make a fun addition to the franchise.
According to Tom Hardy, pre-production on Venom 3 began in February. Kelly Marcel, who wrote Venom: Let There Be Carnage and co-wrote the first film with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg, will take over directing duties for Venom 3. She also wrote the screenplay based on a story she developed with Tom Hardy.
Ruben Fleischer helmed the first Venom movie, while Andy Serkis took the reins for Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Although Serkis was down to return for Venom 3, he wound up being too busy with his other projects. “I’ve got so many projects that I was just about to [work on], like ‘Animal Farm‘ for instance,” Serkis said.

“Ted Lasso” standout Juno Temple seems to be trading soccer stars for comic-book antiheroes, as the actor is in negotiations for a lead role in Sony and Marvel’s “Venom 3.”
The new movie stars Tom Hardy as the titular lethal protector Venom (and its human host Eddie Brock), one of Sony’s slate of Marvel characters, and will be directed by Kelly Marcel in her feature debut. Character details for Temple are being kept under wraps.
While Temple is perhaps best known for her Emmy and SAG Award-nominated performance as Keely Jones on the hit Apple TV+ series “Ted Lasso” — which may or may not be ending soon — the actor has delivered memorable work in “Atonement,” “Killer Joe,” “Vinyl,” “The Offer” and “Dirty John.” She’s next set to star in FX’s “Fargo,” leading the Season 5 cast alongside Jon Hamm and Jennifer Jason Leigh. Temple is represented by UTA,...

[This story contains spoilers for “Signs,” the fifth episode of Ted Lasso’s third season.]
During a press day for Ted Lasso’s third season, The Hollywood Reporter asked co-creator, executive producer and actor Brendan Hunt about whether Richmond’s honeymoon period with superstar Zava (Maximilian Osinski) would wear off.
Hunt’s answer: “I mean, you’ve seen the show before. You know how it goes.”
In “Signs,” the show’s fifth episode of season three, it went. Or rather, he went: After firing up the team before a match with powerhouse Manchester City — by basically repeating the same idea Jamie (Phil Dunster) offered up moments before — Zava no-shows for the match. (“Maybe he’s dead,” Ted muses on the sideline. “He fucking better be,” Roy growls.) He later explains to his social media followers — ahem, “believers” — that he’s retiring to focus solely on his family and his avocado farm.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Ted Lasso Season 3, Episode 4, “Big Week.”] Since Ted Lasso debuted in 2020, Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster) has been one of the comedy’s most compelling characters, and Season 3 is proving the point as the cocky soccer player channels his emotions into pumping up his fellow teammates. But a recent turn of events is shifting Jamie’s focus from the team itself to his career as a footballer against new star player Zava (Maximilian Osinski). [This story contains spoilers for the season three premiere of Ted Lasso.]
The thesis for the third — and final-of-this-story-arc-but-not-necessarily-final-overall — season of Ted Lasso is right there in the opening of Wednesday’s season premiere, courtesy of a phone session Ted (Jason Sudeikis) has with Dr. Sharon (Sarah Niles) before the theme music even plays.
After seeing his son Henry off at the airport following a six-week visit, which he’s clearly sad to see end, Ted tells Sharon, “I guess I do wonder sometimes what the heck I’m still doin’ here. I mean, I know why I came, but it’s the stickin’ around I can’t quite figure out. … Maybe my bein’ here is doing more hurtin’ than helpin’ at this point.”
He repeats the idea at the end of the episode as he and Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) walk home from AFC Richmond’s training ground: “It’s nuts we came here in the first place, but at...
