Most shows are marketed uniquely. In a lot of cases, they draw us in with the storyline, but we stay for the characters. Not all of those characters stick around for long, for better or worse. It gets so bad sometimes that people completely drop the show from their watch list, never to be revisited.
But that is why we watch TV -- the excitement and the characters who serve as surrogates for our imaginations. So, when the time comes for a character to make her exit, it is more often than not because of a carefully crafted reason, and the audience is left to either mourn or rejoice, depending on their perception of the character.

Since we can't do that, we'll stick to the next best thing -- writing about those people who can sing -- because living vicariously through them is so much more fun.

NBC's upcoming live broadcast of "The Sound of Music," starring Carrie Underwood as Maria and Stephen Moyer as Capt. von Trapp, has added several key players to its cast: namely, the kids who will play the von Trapp children.
Theater actress Ariane Rinehart, who was most recently seen in the video for Justin Timberlake's "Mirrors," will play 16-going-on-17 Liesl. She can also be seen next year in Darren Aronofsky's biblical epic "Noah."
Her siblings will be played by mostly unknown actors with theater backgrounds: Michael Nigro as Fredrich, Ella Watts-Gorman as Louisa, Joe West, who played Ralphie in Broadway's "A Christmas Story" adaptation, as Kurt, Sophia Caruso, who played young Norma Jean on "Smash," as Brigitta, Grace Rundhaug as Marta, and Peyton Ella as Gretl.
Newcomer Michael Campayno will play Liesl's soldier love, Rolfe, reports Deadline.
The three-hour "The Sound of Music Live!" will air Thursday, Dec. 5 at 8 p.
